Industry Reviews PreS-K These 12 original songs feature the characters Prudence and Joshua, who also appear in the Once Upon a Potty books and videos previously produced by the Frankels. On The Ocean of Love, their first audio recording, Ari Frankel is the songwriter and featured vocalist, and Alona Frankel designed the accompanying coloring book. The songs have a refreshing variety of musical styles, and the accompaniment is top notch guitar, piano, keyboards, bass, trumpet, and several percussion instruments. The voices are equally enjoyable, from a children's chorus singing backup to the men and women featured as lead singers. Overall, the recording is a sophisticated production that will appeal to parents as well as toddlers and preschoolers. Some of the standout songs include "The Oceans of Love," an upbeat lullaby; "What Do You Think, That It's Easy to Be a Kid?," which has a calypso beat; and "Drivin' U.S.A.," a Beach Boys-like number about riding in the car. Toddlers will relate to "Hug You," a Brazilian-style song about a baby trying to wake up a parent; "Brush It," a techno-pop tribute to brushing one's teeth; and "Change It," a bubble gum pop song requesting clean diapers. "Good Grief" and "Sandbox Sunday" are both jazz pieces with a wonderful female vocalist; the first is about teething, the second about playing in a sandbox. "The Snow Song" is a striking folk piece about seeing snow for the first time. The subjects of the lyrics and the pop melodies lend themselves to classroom use and school assemblies, as well as pleasure listening. Penny Peck, San Leandro Public Library, CA Divakaruni
