One of best classic rap albums
Review created: 11/21/08

From New Jack Hustle to Excape from the Killing Field, there is an excellent blend of eclectic samples, rocking beats, and die-hard lyrics. This album carries the weight of exposing the truth of 1991 South Central Los Angeles to the world and comes through doing so by the end of the album without second thoughts or remorse. Not many Pulitzer Prize winning books or New York Times Best-Sellers can say the same nor be as effective. This isn't party rap, this isn't cute rhymes, this is an experience of inner city angst that is and still remains very hidden from the hearts and minds of the populace. While most white collar and white skin at the time thought "drug wars" and "gang warfare" were a simple tussle of good and evil, the truth lay closer to Ice-T's portayals of South Central life where decisions were difficult and consequences could mean the C's & G's or the body bag.

  Ice-T more than O.K. -n- Da O.G.!
Review created: 03/31/08

Some of the BEST Ice-T out there... This is definately old school Hip-Hop at it's best.
From "Home of the bodybag" to "You should have killed me last year" Ice-T gives you what you want "Old school"
Let's not forget "Body Count" only second best to Ice-T's "Cop Killer" (Which sorry to say...is not on this CD)

Back When Rappers Had Something To Say
Review created: 05/03/07
by:

This was one of the first gangster rap CDs I bought as a kid. The “parental advisory explicit content” warnings had just come out and I had to go to three record stores before someone let me purchase it. This album came out during the golden age of rap, when rapper’s had something important to say. And Ice-T is a true soldier, not the common studio gangster that raps about his Bentley and twenty thousand dollar grille. I think the name of the album sums it all up, O.G. Original Gangster. All the tracks have value and that’s why I gave the disc a 5 out of 5, because you can put it in and listen to it all the way through. Some of the beats and tired to today’s standards, but the content in on point. It also features a song from the motion picture “New Jack City” appropriately titles “New Jack Hustler” and Body Count’s, Ice-T’s rap and rock combo band, first appearance. (Body Count got a name from the infamous “Cop Killer” song on their debut album). If you are looking for a true rap CD you can’t go wrong with this classic.

In this oldie but goodie. As usual the king of rap lays out like no other has or will. Highly recommend for new fans as well as old fans looking to see just where it all started
