O Brother What a Great Movie

If you're looking for a hilarious movie this is definitely one to add to your must-see list. This is the ONLY movie I've ever seen starring George Clooney where I truly enjoyed his character. Tim Blake Nelson is one of my favorite actors, he's one to watch and a sure fire Oscar winner some day. And John Turturro plays the part of a Southern redneck to a T, which is not bad for a nice Catholic boy from Brooklyn. There are side-splitting cameos by John Goodman and Charles Durning among others that add to the great comic relief of this movie. And the soundtrack is unbeatable. If you don't own the soundtrack I would recommend it just as much as the movie itself, and the two together would make a great gift.

At first I didn't think I was going to like this movie and at times it does have its slow parts but in the end the story line stays strong and provides great entertainment. George Clooney is great in this movie. The sound track is also A+. I would recommend this movie to just about anyone to watch.

This is probably the best coen brothers film made. The humor is dry at times and mostly subtle. The dialogue is witty and is filled with so many onle liners it took like 15 views of the movie to catch them all.

A great version of homers odsysey and in general a good family fun film.

My favorite quote from the movie.

"Isn't this place a geographical Oddity? 2 Weeks from everywhere !!!!"

An treat for adults and teens. Politics & relationships. George Clooney breaking into song at the radio station! The music is wonderful. I have friends who sing along!

Bonafied Odyssey set in 1930's Mississippi
Review created: 10/03/06

This is one of my favorite movies. I usually love the Coen brother's films and this one is just like them - quirky, smart and funny.

Loosely based on The Odyssey, Clooney plays Ulysses, Everett Ulysses McGill that is, a convict who escapes the chain-gang while attached to the the dim Pete (John Turturro) and the dimmer Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson). Everett tells his companions of a hidden treasure which he will share with them if they help him escape. On the way they meet a blind prophet, a cyclops (John Goodman), sirens, a man who sold his soul to the devil, a bank robber, the KKK and politicians on campaign.

The acting is excellent, the script is smart and funny - as usual with the Coen brothers - and the cinematography is beautiful! Of course the cd became a huge hit and the cool thing is that the music is part of the film - not just background noise like in most movies. Highly recommended.

This is one of those movies that you have to stay til the end. I love this movie. Actually my entire household loves this movie. The acting is superb. I honestly do not know how this group of actors made it trhough most scenes without several takes.
This is just a good movie for the entire family.

  O Brother GREAT!

I bought the DVD version to replace my worn out VHS. I have watched this movie many times over the years and never tire of it. It is a modernized loosely based re-telling of Homers "The Odyssey". Though totally fictitious, there are enough actual historical characters (or some that are simply based on real people)...Baby Face (George) Nelson which was based on the actual gangster, Tommy Johnson which was based on the actual blues prodigy Robert Johnson that purportedly sold his soul to the devil to obtain his talent. The governor character was loosely based on Huey P. Long. The main charcters played by George Clooney, John Turturo, and Tim Blake Nelson were all incredible. At first it seems that Clooney is over-acting and making the character seem cheesy...but the more you watch the more you realize it is intentional to show how over the top self absorbed and self serving the character really is. The slap stick Three Stooge like interaction between the three is a pleasant change from some of the dark comedy you see. This movie will appeal to everyone on some level...from the story line to the character development to the laugh out loud comedy to the moral dilemmas that resolve nicely in the end.
All this PLUS an incredible soundtrack make this a movie folks will watch over and over.

George Clooney is wonderful eye Candy...but acting ability, well...you decide. Funny and sweet and moving all at the same time. His partners in crime were hilarious. I am a George Clooney Collector and this spoof film just adds to it.

Surprise Yourself! To Watch It is to Love It
Review created: 04/18/08

A playful take on the epic of Odysseus, 'O Brother' takes us on an epic journey through the deep south as three escaped prisoners seek their 'fortunes'. Fate throws them many twists and turns that will leave you not only wondering if these boys will ever make it, but laughing 'til you cry. (George Clooney is so unrecognizably good that even if you're not a fan, you'll fall in love anyway!) 'O Brother' combines rich scenery, vivid characters, and dialogue that ranges from witty and sharp to slow and southern to profound and soulful, and best of all, an UNforgettable, vibrant, and often haunting soundtrack that whisks you into the heart of the south. Don't pass up this movie. It'll surprise you as it creeps into your top ten list.

If you are looking for a hilarious movie; you've found it. This movie has to be one of the best movies ever made. The movie goes back to the depression era. The movie is all about three escaped convicts (Everett, Pete, and Delmar) with nothing to lose and alot to gain. Their adventures through the barren landscape includes run-ins with a blind prophet, a trio of sexy Sirens, a so called Bible-salesman, as well as other stuff from Southern folklore and pop-culture including a young blues musician, the Klan, and bank robber Baby Face Nelson. This movie is a must see. Definitely one of the best movies ever made, and the more you watch it the funnier it gets. Would Definitely recommend for everyone!

Loved: The great bluegrass music! Also see DVD "Down From The Mountain" for a concert by the bluegrass artists that made the "O Brother" movie. This is a classic movie (DVD), 30's setting - true to period, great great humor.

Is one of my all time favorite movies!

Disliked: DVD is not in full screen - couldn't find any full screen editions anywhere. Movies starts a little slow.
