I had been collecting individual recordings of the songs which most impacted me when I way a young teenager, and during a much more simple place in time......the 1960's. I now find that most of those recordings fit neatly into the genre of what is now called "garage band" music. I had no idea that Rhino had already compiled a 4-CD collection of that same type of music until I recently found this boxed set.. I was amazed when I first reviewed the track listings from an online retail music source. This was the Mother-Lode! They were all there, songs like "Dirty Water", "Talk Talk", "Psychotic Reaction", "Hey Joe", "Gloria", and the list went on and on. This was my early music and a reflection of my youth. So I bought the collection. If you're a garage-band junkie then you need look no further that this compilation. Great songs by former young emerging groups. Many of these songs still find airtime on the local radio station, either in their original form or as covers from more modern groups. My discs have since been well played, and remain one of the best audio investments I have made to date. So, if you wish to get an unscripted peek into the purity and depth of what four or five teenagers could achieve with a few guitars, a set of drums, and an occasional keyboard during the height of the 60's garage-band music scene, you need look no further than this boxed set. Although they have evidently been sterilized somewhat with digital formatting, they are still a great collection and a nice addition to your private music library. I am already eagerly awaiting the next volume to this series.....if one comes. Great buy!!

mostly essentric music i like and this is DEFINATELY one of them, i really gid all the bands on this volume set

One of the best CD purchases I have ever made. Seller listed the item at less than what the condition was when I received it. It was like brand new. I don't think it had ever been listened to.

Overall the 4 CD Set of Classic Songs from the 60's is very good. The one exception is the song "I need You" by the Rationals. This version is not the popular ballad version, but the little-known Kinks version. The Kinks version of the song is not very good at all. If you are buying this mainly for that song, don't, you will be disappointed. The sound quality of this set is also very good.

This Nuggets box set is incredible.

It's jam packed with Garage/Folk/Pop/Psychedelic Rock songs from the mid-to-late 60's.

I grew up in the era (although I was young) and found there were still a lot of great songs in this set that I'd never heard before. If you appreciate Garage Rock, or if you have an open mind in regard to music; I think you may find this 4 CD excursion into 60's Rock/Pop styles to be a musical wonderland.

Even with 4 CD's, Rhino Records couldn't include everything, of course. Rhino started the Nuggets series in the 70's on vinyl LPs (with analog sound, of course, which was the best presentation for this music); and it eventually grew to 12 Volumes.
If I could reinstate only one song from the series which was left off the Box Set, it would be The Spat's SHE DONE MOVED.
