Christian Rock Heavyweight

Steve Taylor is a Christian Rock Heavyweight artist, singer, and songwriter that dates back to the early 80's. He is one of the foundations to the modern Christian Rock / Pop movement. His unique blend of rock and pop is a must listen. This collection of songs is a mix from his early albums.
In the early 80's, before the Newsboys and dcTalk, good Christian rock was rare, but slowly becoming available. Other examples of the period are Petra (Never say die, More power to ya, Not of this world), Rick Cua (Koo-Ah!), Daniel Amos (Horrendous disc), Daniel Band, Justus, Oracle, Jerusalem, REZ band, and Servant, and yes even Stryper.
Back to Taylor. His album, "I want to be a Clone", was groundbreaking. "Punchy" described it better than anything. Attitude and production is quite raw. "Meltdown" fared better because of increased sophistication in production and concepts. Steve's humor is there, as in "Meat the Press" and "Meltdown (at Madame Tussauds)", as was the defiant attitude - "We don't need no Colour Code" and a heart wrenching ballad in "Baby Doe".
He was never an extremely strong vocalist, but made up for it in his quirky approach to getting his point across. It was (almost) pure entertainment. Not quite. Every song had something substantial to say. And nobody could say it the way he did.
He made other efforts, both Christian and secular, seem quite lame by comparison. "On the Fritz" has its moments, as well as "I predict 1990".
If your and old fan like me, or want to hear something new "Now the Truth Can be Told" is good place to begin. This two-disc compilation includes (arguably) the better half of Steve Taylors first four albums.
