I am a senior who is tired of cooking....yet I want good, healthy food for me and whoever is at my table. So, for years I have cooked from scratch...now I am loving cooking again and seeing what each new recipe taste like. It gets a star if I want to fix it again or for company.....a big 0 if not. So far I haven't got a 0 in there. It's so easy, I wish someone would have clued me in years ago. My family are tickled pink that I am back cooking.....the easy way!!!!!! There are so many new things that can be done in this book that was never in the "old" ones. I think if you try it....you will say the same.

Great variety of relateable slow cooker recipes
Review created: 11/08/09

Ok, I'm not a cook but I prefer very good food to just-get-by-food. (OK, I'm a Foodie). And I'm busy. And I'm raising a child so I need simple to prepare (food for tired gourmet dummies) but good, satisfying, healthy food. We've spent years transitioning to organic food and local produce and we're trying to eat out less, eat manufactured food less and eat better in general. ( I do not trust big business to have my best interests at heart and believe genetically modified food should be labeled as such)
This cookbook helps with all our current goals. The recipes rely on fresh products with canned tomato sauce and staples but not creamed soups and not a lot of manufactured food. The author's goal is stated in p 3 "Our goal was to produce good tasting food that was prepared by a loving hand and would be enjoyed by a discerning palate". I've only made meatloaf so far. It was good. What I like most about this book is the huge variety of recipes. I can't relate to the ingredients in most traditional slow cooker cookbooks. I can relate to the ingredients in this book. Here are the Old Fashioned Meatloaf ingredients - see if you relate. 1/2 lb ground chuck(I use a leaner cut) 1 large egg(I use local free range, organic), 1-2 slices whole wheat or white sandwich bread(I use organic), 1/4 cup onion minced, 1/4 cup minced green, red or yellow bell pepper (or a combination of all -says me), 1/4 minced celery, 2 teaspoons seasoned salt or salt free herb blend such as Mrs. Dash or McCormick, 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme, a few grinds of black pepper, 1/2 cup tomato or V-8 (type) juice. Topping: 3/4 cup ketchup or prepared chili sauce (both of which you can make from scratch with recipes from other cookbooks) and 4 bell pepper rings 1/2 inch thick. See, as long as you're not a vegetarian, this is real food. You can play with this recipe. I do recommend the book. 350 recipes for just about everything you can make in a crock pot.

So good I give them as gifts!

After borrowing this book from my library and getting ready to hunker down for a long winter of slow-cooking/crock-potting I was so impressed with the recipes I bought myself a copy. After I made more from this book I wanted to share it with everyone. I just gave a copy to a friend along with a slow-cooker off of her registry for a bridal shower gift. I have another one waiting in the wings for the next bride and groom to be. Who new crock pot oatmeal would be my new favorite meal! Great gumbo! Awesome chili and delicious soup and cacciatore!

Great book!

  slow cooker cook book
Review created: 03/03/09

This is the best slow cooker cook book I ever read, it has very good and easy recipes. I use my slow cooker alot, a few times a week to save on using the stove or oven. I don't think people know you can cook alot of things in a slow cooker besides chilli and stews.

  What??? . . . . . No pictures??. . . .Yup, No pictures!

Love the concept of outside-of-the-box and unconventional meals from a crockpot, BUT, I like pictures of what I'm contemplating making. Only the picture on the cover. I will have to adjust because the book is that good.

I saw this cookbook at a bookstore and really liked it when I browsed through it because it had many fun, up-to-date recipes for a slow cooker. I have a slow cooker but don't use it that often am always pressed for time. Since buying the cookbook, I have used a number of recipes and have been pleased with the results.

Great title - caught my eye - and glad it did.
Review created: 05/22/08(updated 05/22/08)

This book has an incredible variety of foods you can make in a crock pot. I can't wait to try some of these recipes! A slow cooker has the advantage of dumping in the ingredients, turning it on, and walking away. There are main courses, chutneys, side dishes, everything in this book, and I bought it for a low price!

  Great book

I have enjoyed this book so far. The recipes inside are tasty and most are easy to prepare. The biggest downfall of the book is that some recipes require lots of pre-cooking work. Many people rely on the crock pot to be quick and easy. Through the meat in and so but not all recipes in this book are like this!
