North and South - The Complete Collection (DVD, 2004, 5-Disc Set)

Absolutely loved it. I took a week and watched it all-- apparently I had missed quite a bit of it when it was on television. I really enjoyed it. Recommmend it highly. It's an amazing production!!

This is an excellent movie about the War between the states.
I love it!!!!I have watched it many times.
I have it in VHS but did not have the 3rd part.
It aparently came out in 2004.
This has all three parts.
I'm thrilled.

I used to watch the North & South series back in the 80's on TV. I still can't believe I have the DVD's now. I love the actors, the costumes, the story. Just awesome!

I am a historian, so I love anything that deals with the past. I am particuliarly fond on the Civil War Era. This story deals with the hardships and triumphs that the Hazzard's and Main's have to deal with. It starts in 1841 when a southern man meets a northern man on the way to West Point Military Accademy. They become life long friends even thou they do not agree on some issues that are current in that time period. The series takes you from the beginning of the Mexican War to the end of the Civil War. It spans 20+ years.
Along the way they encounter a deadly enemy. Time and time again they are put to the test of honor, chivalry, and common dignity. They risks their lives for each other and show that they are true friends.
It is a saga that includes an all star cast: Phillip Cassanove, Elizabeth Taylor, Johnny Cash, Genie Frances, Jonathan Franks, Jean Simmons, Kirstie Alley, James Read, Patrick Swayze, just to name a few. It is worth watching and it will give you a glimps into that time frame.

It is rated PG because of the sexual content. Not recommended for children under 13. I can sit and watch all 15 episode and not sleep just to see this movie over and over. That is 30 hours of viewing pleasure.

A must see for anyone interested in the Civil War. This is the story of two families who try to remain friends even though they are on opposite sides of the war.

A must for any one who collects movies. A great civil war saga. Loved the whole mini-series. One of the best of that era. Anyone who loves stories of the old South this movie, should be at the top of their list.

Watched it and was reminded all over again what a great mini series is all about. I just love Arie and Madiline.

DVD was in great shape. There were no scratches. There were 8 cds and everyone of them were in great shape and a would this seller again.

If you have not seen this or simply want to add it to your collection, it is one of the best series ever. Simply put, it is GREAT!!!

North & South is truly a masterpiece movie. I've seen the movie a few times before, but had to have a DVD collection for myself.

I absolutely LOVE this collection of movies! North and South, is one of the very BEST EVER made! I LOVE the time period it was made in. The costumes, the actors! The whole time period of this movie, the civil war, is perhaps a time in history, that is still as alive today as then! The MEMORIES of it all, its untouchable! Never has there been a movie made since, that can touch the reality and feel of that whole era! This is a MUST SEE MOVIE! You will never forget the experience!

I absolutely love this movie!! I owned it on VHS but it looks alot better on Dvd and takes up so less room. I wanted to watch it again and this time on DVD. Excellent choice!!

What can I say about exceptional acting, directing and presentation. The story is of two families, one from Pennsylvania, and the other from the deep south, around the Carolinas, and how they became loyal friends because one son from each family attended West Point prior to the War Between the States. They stuck together, and at times fought against each other, but their loyalty to each other won the battle. It's an adventure, a romance, a historical encounter of our country and all on 4 disks. To miss this one is to miss one of the greats. I have this movie on VHS and DVD. Exceptional.

I enjoyed the entire movie/collection. I have nothing negative to say about it. I personally feel that it was the best civil war movie ever made.

Bought this as a gift for Civil War buff Hubby on our family Patrick Swayze Memorial weekend after PS's death. Some of the family hadn't seen it yet and all of us loved it. It moves a little slow compared to more recent shows but the story of two young men who meet before the war and remain friends in spite of their different backgrounds is great. Romance for us romantics, action for action-lovers, social issues we all deal with. Great Show!

Even though the slavery, in the story wasn't based on fact.. It was based on, what everyone wants to hear. However my family had slaves, and they we're never treated, as this film, and many like it portrays!!!(Like "Gone w/ the Wind"!! another great film..) It still, was very well made for it's time, and I just really, enjoyed to watch it over, and over again.. As I have with "Gone w/ the Wind", which I've watch a total of 30, or more times.. But by no means, we're all slave owners, of the South, bad. Not all beat their slaves.. My family never did.. Matter of fact, after the war, many stayed on, and helped. Before the war they we're given several acres of the family land, and the owners last name, as a way, of saying "Thanks" for a job well done..(This was truly a treasure, back then to be honored with..) You we're consider, part of the family, from then on, fo all your un-selfish acts.... This is true "NON-Fiction"!!!!!!! If you read into, your history, you'll find that, The black man, and woman, was sold into slavery by their own people. Plus their we're also white slaves, but no-one speaks of them..But this is true!!! Thanks,Mr. Magee

This is a most wonderful saga of the Civil War! It touches the soul of anyone who has any knowledge of that era. It is second only to " Gone With The Wind ".
You will become completely drawn up into the story, only wish that it wouldn't end.

This collection will give you much pleasure for about 2 hours, every night, for about a week. It is absolutely wonderful!!

If this has not been deemed a classic, it should be. Cudos to Mr. Jakes. He is brilliant!

I have to agree with everyone else. The dvd's were in perfect condition, and the shipping was fast. A wonderful set to treasure always, expecially since the death of Patrick. He will be missed by so many.

As a kid I watched this on ABC. I loved it then and love it even more now, that I'm older and understand the plot better. This is my #1 movie and Gone with the wind being #2. A must buy......

Two teenage boys; Orry Main (Patrick Swayze) from South Carolina and George Hazard (James Read)from Pennsylvania, meet on their ways to military accademy in West Point. Very soon, they become the best friends ever. In the Academy they spend lots of time together and together make the biggest enemy; Elkanah Bent. After graduation, they go for a war with Mexico, where Orry gets hurt really bad, but is saved by George. When they return homes, they don't give up on their friendship - their families spend summer together, their sibillings falls in love, they become business-partners etc. But the situation in the country is not getting better, also not all the family members and neighbours like the idea of people from North and South being friends. In December 1860, South Carolina leaves Union. The war is much closer then it has ever been. It starts at a spring, 1861. George and Orry must fight against each other ...

A great movie I remember seeing it in 1980's when it was first on tv and for some reason they never played it again. with the passing of Patrick Swayze i think they should schedual a showing of this Mini series.for all the enjoy how great an actor he truly was...
The dvd is pricy but you can get a decent one on ebay like i did under 40.00 and factory sealed...a must to own and enjoy..
