I am not what you would call a movie buff. In fact, I have really been disappointed by many movies recently...hype, hype, hype! All the best bits of the movie are shown in the commercials with nothing original and funny left to go and see. I also am a bit critical of 'older' movies...the audiences back then just weren't as sophisticated as today, and of course, how could special effects of 50 + years ago compare to computer graphics?
Well, I recently watched the movie NORTH BY NORTHWEST. I didn't know it was a Hitchcock. I didn't know of the "big name" stars in it. I just watched it, and honestly, didn't expect a lot. Boy, was I excited by what I saw!!!
The movie starts off fast...we meet a hurried Wall Street executive who is accidentally mistaken for a reclusive super-spy. The Exec is kidnapped, questioned, and narrowly escapes death...and that's just the beginning! Events twist and turn so fast you'll have to hold onto your seat just to keep up! While a bit unbelievable (I hope), it is conceivable, and really...it's presented so well that you're swept along for the suspenseful ride.
There's lots of action, suspense, romance...to use a cliche, it's a "roller coaster ride" of excitement! I was so into this movie and I couldn't believe it. I really enjoyed it, and I wanted to let others know that just because a movie is "old" and the stars in it may have passed on before you were even born, that does not mean that you should miss the movie. This is a 5 star flick and I think you'll really love it as well (and the extras included in the DVD are just great...I enjoyed them almost as much as the movie itself)

What's not to love? Cary Grant, Hitchcock, James Mason, Eva Marie Saint and more. This movie is a classic for a good reason. Hitchcock shows his love of filming around famous landmarks by shooting parts around the U.N. building in NY and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. It's a great story of spies, deceipt, lies, danger and adventure. If you haven't seen this film...do it! You won't regret it.

First off, Cary Grant is his usual fantastic self in this film. Plus, Alfred Hitchcock once again proves himself well before his cinematic time. While many other movies from that era tended toward poor cinematography, cheesy acting, and lousy special effects, North By Northwest is obviously well ahead of the pack. The Mount Rushmore climax could have been cheap as all get-out, but I actually believed the entire scene. I just wonder what amazing films Hitchcock would be producing if he were still alive, in business, and had today's filmmaking technology at his disposal.

I love hitchcock movies, especially the ones with Cary Grant or James Stewart. The plot twists are great. When you watch a lot of movies, it is easy to guess what will happen next. You can not do that with a Hitchcock movie. It is probably worth watching just for the airplane scene.

North By Northwest - a real Hitchcock classic...Want to be sitting on the edge of your seat, this film will keep you there with its suspense and story line. The actors, their performances and the use of Mt Rushmore as a background will keep you involved and guessing what is coming next. You will want to watch this movie more than once.

I like the movie but my daughter is taking a Hitchcock class in college and needed the movie to watch. I bought it because it is a very intense move for the times.

classic entertainment that remains ageless to me. This is great fun the first time you view it and is enjoyable even after you have viewed it many times. Carey Grant fans, this is a must. Hitchcock masterpeice.
