The Nokia 6133 Flip Phone from T-Mobile

The Nokia 6133 phone is the successor to the widely popular Nokia 6102i model. When you think Nokia, you think of their nice and simple soap bar styled phones, but they are doing a great job on the flip-phone side of things. I've rated each of this phones most prominent features on a scale of 1 to 10:

Design (9/10) - While not as thin and sleek as lets say the RAZR, it's rounded edges gives it a good portable feel in your pocket. Im guessing Nokia decided to borrow some old industry designs to include in the 6133. It's exterior is wrapped in a black colored rubberized texture (Motorola V300 series anyone?) with a silver trim around it, giving the phone a very nice rugged feel to it. And like the Nextel i860, it features a flip button which when pressed, automatically flips the phone open, something not seen very often on phones these days.

Screen (9/10) - Interior screen is big (2.2 inches) and beautiful. Animation, photos, graphics and text are vivid. External screen also doubles as mirror for vanity shots and is larger than most phones.

MP3 Player/FM tuner (6/10) - Supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, and eAAC+ file formats. Although nothing special, it features an FM tuner which you won't find on most phones. Disappointinly, the music stored and played on the phone must be purchased directly from T-Mobile's service for addittional fees. To be able to use the phones MP3 Player ability, you'll need to seperately purchase a special headset, USB data cable and a MicroSD card for additional space (phone comes with a small 11MB onboard memory).

Multimedia Features (8/10) - Contains features and functions found on most mainstream phones and sometimes even better. On top of the usual Alarm, Calendar, Tasks, Calculator, World Time, Unit Conversion, Timer, and Stopwatch there is also a translator, presenter, and sensor. Internet is provided by the fast broadband EDGE network so you can check email or browse the web. There is also access the T-Zone networks for downloads of music, games, wallpaper, more web applications, or access a variety of premium services. Phone is preloaded with three games. Features bluetooth wireless connectivity for headsets, handsfree car kits and laptop computers.

Battery Life (7/10) - Battery life is decent, factory rated at 210 minutes of talk time, although I tested it at a little under 3 hours. Battery life is lower with internet or multimedia usage.

Camera/Video (7/10) - Has a 1.3MP camera which takes decent pictures, although i've seen better quality results with other 1.3MP camera phones. There is no flash so dark or night shots are not possible. Although nothing special, the camera is basic enough to please most regular users.

MicroSD Slot (6/10) - Necessary if you want to store additional pictures, videos and music. Easy to pop in and very small (easily lost as well!). The cards are very cheap so its a great upgrade to get. Unfortunately as with the previous Nokia flip phones, accessing the slot takes a little more work. You'll need to open the battery cover to get to it (at least you don't need to remove the battery this time).

The Nokia 6133 is an improvement from the 6102i but there are still some kinks to work out. T-Mobile also needs give their consumers more freedom when it comes to multimedia and entertainment functions. Overall, if your looking for a nicely priced and feature packed phone from T-Mobile, the Nokia 6133 is a good choice. Please vote YES if my review has been helpful!

      Love this phone!

Of the T-Mobile Phones I have owned and used that belonged to other people, this one is probably the best I have encountered. It is just a great phone. It has easy to see screens, a user friendly interface, and very good sound quality and volume control.

The only two drawbacks I have found to date (almost 3 months) is that the voice over command function is a little difficult to figure out initally, but once you know how to use it, it is quite easy to use actually, so not really a drawback. And, the other problem is that the camera button being on the side means that I am accidentally turning the camera on at least three times a day, but it is easy enough to shut off.

The MP3 Player is great. It also plays WMA (Windows Media Audio) files. If you use those, then you can also use the files as ringtones, although the display is different on the player. MP3 files cannot be used as ringtones, but the WMA conversion is a nice way around that.

I also wish that it had more than 9 speed dial spots like most motorola phones do. Although I also own the Razr V3t (a very comparable phone) but I like this one just a bit better.

Great screen. Bluetooth and EGPRS work great; much better than previous Moto with same capabilities. Good voice quality. Built-in radio and MP3 player work great. Earpiece volume a little low. Battery life a bit short if bluetooth left on full time. Camera mode turns on too easy due to poor button location. Voice dial mode only uses computer generated voice not your own voice and therefore is hit or miss.

i bought this phone for my sister - largely due to Nokia's ruggedness and durability.

All in all this is a pretty good phone with a lot of features. although it does have some shortcomings.

The earphone jack is pretty inconvenient - it's one of those huge flat connectors that requires a specialized earphone.

of course, if you have a blue tooth headset - this is a moot point.

    overall a good phone.
