The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (DVD, 2009)

This is a phenomenal series about a phenomenal detective and her cohorts. IT is just a stunning piece of work played by Jill Scott. I was thinking oh, this is going to be boring when it started. But no! IT really grabs you, the plot , the characters, the setting, the realness! Of course the true Jill Scott comes through. She has a certain quality about herself where she involves herself with other artists of quality. I am super impressed and I felt so empowered just by watching her be an independant woman. I HAD to have this in my collection and I will show it to as many young women as I can because it is just a beautiful message to the world from the originator of these books...and from Jill and the cast and crew. It was mentioned on the primetime EMMY's but only once. I was surprised but expect to see them next year - betta recognize!

My wife read all the books and we enjoyed the TV series on HBO so we wanted the DVD set to view again and to share with family and friends who had missed it on HBO. We were sorry to find that the series was not continued after the first season. Theses stories are not only entertaining but also very educational. Our interest in the country of Botswana and it's culture lead us to search for more learning about it.

When I first saw this on HBO I was Pleasantly Surprised. What a GREAT series. The shows are uplifting & clean. The main actress is Outstanding. The characters in the cast our unique and fun. I understand the series follows the books based on the show. It is set in Southern Africa. This is one of my Favorite series of all times. You will not be sorry to purchase it. It is totally Delightful.. I'm lookin forward to another season. Bravo Hbo. What a rare gem..

This dvd series is great! You get to watch all of the episodes from the first season, plus great extras! Anyone looking for something to watch that is family-friendly should buy this! Jill Scott along with the other actors are naturals and very fun to watch. You cannot go wrong with if you purchase the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency dvd.

We do not have cable or watch television, so occasionally when a good series (especially a detective series) comes up, I take a chance, based on personal and media outlet reviews. I loved watching this with my husband and 17 year old son (amazing, right?) each night. We loved the humor, African life, and ongoing story lines (which are important to the series and give life lessons from a woman's point of view). I am talking this series up to my friends; this is such a refreshing alternative to the usual blood and guts shows. We were only sorry when it ended and are looking forward to watching the second series.

This is a great HBO series that is good entertainment for the entire family. It is set and filmed in Botwana, Africa and provides great scenery, from that part of the world.

Interesting and well acted with wonderful location scenes. Some of the actors accents a little thick and hard to understand at times.
