Though Nivea aligns herself with many of her peers in the contemporary R&B game circa-2002, she's not quite your run-of-the mill crooner. While many of those peers construct songs that are little more than melismatic wailing over cookie-cutter arrangements, Nivea is a cut above. With help from some heavyweight producers including the much-lauded Neptunes and original R&B mack daddy R. Kelly, Nivea lays down effective vocals over tracks brimming with pop hooks and carefully crafted melodies. Though she proves to be as capabable as anyone at delivering a classic slow-jam ballad, Nivea seems to excel at percolating, uptempo tunes that sparkle with R&B/pop fizz.
