This critique is likely my briefest for the longest (almost 3,000 pages) text. My reason for it is short & sweet. I like the translation, the annotations, and the red ink words. I figure it will take me a lifetime striving to master just the red words so I don't have a lot of time for the black ink words.
In this Zondervan 10th anniversary edition, where the red ink words are, the annotations of them by the biblical scholars take up over half of each page. I get the feeling when I read the scholarly bible critics interpreting the text that I am engaged in their ongoing dialogue. What I do find difficult however is the very small print for these dim eyes. I wouldn't dare attempt to critique the actual content of 3,000 pages of a most controversial book on eBay! ::winking in good humor without any religious bias::

I really have enjoyed owning the NIV Study Bible. I have the 1985 version.
Translated from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts; began in 1967 by the International Bible Society by a group of Bible scholars for all denominations and countries; in contemporary English.
Has footnotes that are very informative and helpful as well as cross references in the margins. Has adequate space to make short notes.
I can also highly recommend "The Complete Idiots Guide to the Bible" as an adjunct study guide - you may think you know everything about the Bible, but I can bet Bell and Campbell will teach you something new - I know I learned lots!

Great for studying and understanding the Bible. The way it is printed is a big plus for me,the the format is great and once you get into it, is easy to understand. I am very pleased with book.
I wanted something that I could read and would breakdown different areas of the Bible..Great for old and young alike....

Well, the reason that I wanted to buy this bible was for a kid at my church. His bible was old, and so I thought I'd buy him a new one, so after that, I went to ebay and thought that this bible would be good for him.

I really enjoy the larger print. The pages in this bible are not too thin and all the information you need is there. Very easy to understand. I decided to buy this particular bible not only because it was large print but also because it was hardcover, the price was very good and NIV is a good translation. When comparing this to other comparable bibles this was very good deal.
