  The Nintendo Wii

the Wii is an excellent next gen gaming console, but once you see the controls you may feel a little uneasy about whether you'll even be able to play this console if you buy it. there has been a lot of talk about the Wii and how Nintendo's decision on using a remote for a gaming controller was a bad idea, but after just 20 minutes you'll feel natural with this gaming style. the controls look weird and difficult but actually fit right into your hands and make several games easier to play that were difficult or even impossible for other consoles such as the xbox360. theres a speaker built into the controller as well as rumble so you can be pulled deeper into the game and have an even greater gaming experience leaving you never wanting to put the controls down. the graphics are excellent and able to compete with the xbox360 but when it comes to the Wii's "Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" the scenery, graphics and feel of the game easily beat any game for the ps3. with every game for the Wii supporting full surround sound, HDTV, widescreen, regular and projection televisions youll be sure no matter what you've got the Wii will support it and wont be left behind in the technological race of gaming consoles. other excellent features of the Wii include its ultra slim compact design guaranteeing you'll have room in any entertainment setup with your television. the support for SD cards so you can put all of your pictures from your camera onto your console. fully functional web browsing and email so you can easily communicate with all of your friends who have Wii's or any other electronic device. wifi and ethernet support so no matter where your Wii is or what your network setup is you can easily get online at all times. the Wii also is fully backwards compatible with all gamecube games and the "virtual console" part of the Wii will allow you to play all the old Nintendo titles as well as other gaming companies titles from today back thru to 1984 or earlier! The Mii feature in the Wii will allow you to create a copy of yourself inside the console so you can see yourself in the game as you play and feel more apart of the game, story, and all the action. for adults and everyone interested in whats going on in society the Wii easily allows you to see the weather in any part of the world as well as the news. it does this by having a link to the weather right on the main menu as well as a link for news; no need to dig through the internet anymore to try to figure out the latest happenings anywhere. some of the Wii's flaws though are that it cant play DVD's[though it doesnt matter since 99% of people who buy a Wii already have a DVD player] and that it doesnt support voice chat, yet. another flaw is that it continues to be sold out as Nintendo can't seem to produce enough Wii's for all the people who want Wii's where as the xbox360 and ps3 are always on shelves and readily available since they don't seem to hold as great a popularity as the Wii. another disappointment for some gamers is that the Wii supports broadband internet connections only so people who have dial-up wont be able to play online with the Wii with their internet connection. all in all the Wii is an excellent gaming console that i would highly recommend over the ps3 but as for the 360 i'd suggest considering what types of games you prefer before choosing between the two. [last: the Wii is alot cheaper and doesnt require as much ventilation as other consoles do and never overheats.]

A few misconceptions we should get out of the way up-front. Despite being tagged as a "next-generation" console, the device's custom IBM-designed, PowerPC-based "Broadway" processor and ATI "Hollywood" GPU won't go toe-to-toe with PS3 or even last year's Xbox 360. Roughly twice as powerful as a GameCube, the Wii doesn't wow so much for its performance or polygon-pushing power. (Although games like the sweeping fantasy landscape- and otherworldly dungeon-sporting The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or reflective water- and real-time terrain deformation-boasting Excite Truck still look a tangible order of magnitude sharper than less-sophisticated predecessors, even if they won't make veteran joystick jabbers' jaws drop.) Frankly, with graphical output capped at 480p widescreen displays, it's not the type of machine you'd buy to, say, show off a shiny new plasma or LCD HDTV.On a positive note though, despite what you may have heard, the gizmo isn't just for kids either. A 62 title-strong launch lineup of new releases (including Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Red Steel and Rayman: Raving Rabbids) and classic favorites (e.g. downloadable, software-emulated editions of Ice Hockey and Super Mario 64) offers something for nearly everyone. And while you only get one game in the box – physical gesture-powered athletics outing Wii Sports, featuring baseball, boxing, bowling, golf and tennis challenges played by mimicking actual racquet swings or strike-scoring scooping motions – it's enough to quickly demonstrate the gadget's nigh-universal appeal.Meaning that if the basic underlying idea (being able to immerse oneself to a greater degree in medieval dungeon crawls by wielding the TV remote-style controller like a sword or employ it gently in medical simulations as if you were controlling a surgeon's scalpel) sounds even remotely appealing, there should be no question. Nearly $50 cheaper than its next closest competitor and unlike anything currently released to retailers to date, it's worth standing in line – if not necessarily camping out – on November 19 to plunk $250 down for your own personal model.Wondering what that not inconsiderable sum buys you, given that the standard package is sold as a system bundle? (Or worse, $699 mandatory minimum investment including added accessories and games, as certain gouge-happy retailers are all-too happy to offer.) Opening the box reveals the following contents: The Wii itself, a system stand for vertical positioning, one remote control, a "nunchuk" thumb-stick add-on, an AC adaptor, a composite video cable (sorry, component cable sold separately), sensor bar, sensor bar stand and two AA batteries used to power the Bluetooth-enabled gamepad. (Up to four controllers can function wirelessly from up to 30 feet away, and act as pointing devices at distances as much as 15 feet from the sensor.)Slim and trim, the sleek, all-white unit (available now in iPod-type coloring only, upon which stains and markings will sadly show up clearly, though differently-shaded alternatives are surely coming) measures just 8.5" x 6" x 2", or approximately the size of three stacked DVD cases as advertised. Not only does it run quietly and coolly, as opposed to the noisy, nigh nuclear meltdown-inducing beast that is an Xbox 360. It can also be positioned horizontally or vertically as desired, with the mounting stand offering additional stability for those of us who can't resist the latter, sharper-looking option.
Overall- 10/10

Nintendo Wii - Console Review Only
Review created: 08/22/07
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The Nintendo Wii is an amazing system with true next generation game play. I purchased mine from a seller here on eBay and have been nothing but satisfied every time I turn it on. Please note this review is based on the Nintendo Wii hardware only.

Console - The Wii itself is much smaller than its competition. It can easily fit in many entertainment centers by positioning it horizontally or vertically, using the included stand. While positioned vertically, the console has two doors that conceal a wonder secret: Gamecube controller inputs and memory card slots! The all white plastic case is very appealing and features sleek buttons and a slot-load dvd-drive that features an illuminating blue light around the slot that lights up when a disc is loaded, or when a system update is available.

Controller - There are two included controllers, the wii remote and the nunchuk attachment. The wii remote is a slim controller designed similar to that of a television remote control. It is molded in durable white plastic and is very comfortable to hold. This is the primary input device, and can even double as a virtual console controller for most games. The remote seems very durable so far, as I have bopped, slammed, dropped, bonked, and smashed it many times during some overzealous wii sports games. The buttons are all easy to reach and placed perfectly for most games. The nunchuk is a fist-sized attachment that plugs into the wii remote. The nunchuk appears to be used for movement, or possibly menu selection. It features an analog stick on top and two "trigger" buttons located on the front of the unit, reachable with the index finger. The nunchuk is molded in durable white plastic and is very comfortable to hold.

Overall - As far as actual consoles go, the Nintendo Wii is top notch. Despite the lack of high-definition graphics, the Wii can still claim next-generation game play by means of its intuitive controllers that bring a unique play experience unable to be replicated on the other machines. I high recommend the Wii to any video game fan who enjoys a fun and unique video game experience.

Nintendo Wii is a fantastic new way to game other than just the high def gaming on the other systems. Nintendo Wii may not support High Def Gaming Graphics or anything like that. Nintendo Wii was simply made for a new way of gaming for Solo Gamers and especially More than one person in groups, That's what the "Wii" part of the system title gradually implies! The Graphics has an improvement over the Gamecube Graphics although it's not High Definitin. Not to say that the gamecube graphics wasn't good. The Sound from the Nintendo Wii doesn't have the True Dolby Digital 5.1, but has great support for DOlby Pro Logic II which is analog just as the gamecube supported, honestly the sound is great as long as u have a Dolby Digital Decoder and Surround Speakers that supports DOlby Pro Logic II. Controls now is where it starts to Define the fun factor and the reason to buy a Wii. The Controls are Bluetooth Wireless motion controlling, very responsive depending on the games. Nintendo exclusive games are the games that really take advantage of the motion sensitive and even the graphics basically the overall power of the Wii. The system is 100% Compatible with all of your regional Gamecube Games! Unlike the other systems that are having issues with the backword Compatibility!! You can play the Gamecube Games with the Nintendo Gamecube Controller or the Nintendo Wii Classic Controller which is a great mixture of the retro style and Current Control which are all sold seperately!! This also has full support for Gamecube Memory cards and also full COmpatibility with the Action Replay and the Action Replay's Memory Card for Gamecube Games. The system comes with 5 Mini sports games that really show off what the system is capable of doing. Very fun after a while alone, When u have more than 1 player though, That's where the replayability comes in, can give u hours of fun wether is Co-Op or Vs. each other. The online capabilities is great, u can purchase retro old School Games online from systems such as, Sega Genesis, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Turbo Graphics 16, It also has a built in Wifi ready adapter, so those of u with wireless broadband network, can have great use for this feature, also would reduce the clutter of wires! Can get the current Forecast for your area, you can purchase the retro style games with Wii Points that you have to purchase with your credit card online or buy seperately at the Gaming retailers! Right out of the box the Nintendo Wii is ready to play and enjoy!! The system comes with the Wii Hardware, Wii Remote, Nunchuck, Standard Composite A/V Cable, Power Plug, Sensor Bar, Sensor Bar Stand. Sensor Bar STand Stickers, AC Adapter, Manuals, Console Horizontal Stand. I reccomend getting the Component Cable to enable 480p Progressive Scan for EDTV/HDTV ready TV's to unleash the true Graphics capabilities as the COmpsosite cables just can't cut it on a EDTV/HDTV. I decided to buy it because, I like to buy and experiment with things I'm intrested in, instead of just reading the Critics reviews on things, that's based on they're opinions and they're hard to rate. I alway's like to see it for my self and rate it for my self as everyone has different views and tastes in everything. I also Love Video Gaming but I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer!! Thank You For reading!!

The standard Wii Package has a suggested retail price of £179, significantly less than the year-old Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Exact figures vary as both competitors market 2 separate versions of their products, with the price difference ranging from £20 more for the Core 360, to £245 extra for the Premium PS3. It includes:
- Handful of glossy booklets
- Wii Remote and its 2 AA batteries
- Nunchuck controller
- Game, in the form of Wii Sports
- The Wii Console and its power supply, sensor bar and AV Cable

Also thrown in for good measure are, a Euro Connector Plug, 3 adhesion tapes and a couple of stands for the console and sensor bar.

As such, Microsoft and Sony doubled their efforts to cram every last piece of technology available in their consoles. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are true behemoths, assuring with their size that they are capable of tremendous technical feats. "Fight Night: Round 3" looks life-like. We've reached a point where trailers shock us using exclusively in-game footage, so, as far as beautiful expansive worlds go, just take a look at "Mass Effect" and "White Knight Story".

Nintendo has decided to go in a different direction, figuring games have now taken the form they were imagining and it's finally time to revolutionize the way they are played. They came up with a small, stylish, affordable unit to do it: The Wii is slightly bigger than your computer's disc drive and more than 4 times smaller than the 360 and the PS3.
That's not to say processing power was neglected. The Wii is touted as being two and a half times more powerful than the GameCube, which has produced some terrific looking games. "Resident Evil 4" looked fantastic and "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess", principally developed as a GameCube title, is massive and has gorgeous character models.

Inevitably, as the Wii's power is slowly untapped, even more impressive games will surface. They'll never rival the picture-perfect quality the PS3 and the Xbox have the potential of, but Nintendo hopes they won't distract you enough to overlook the undeniable charm Wii controls possess.
The trim, (24cm)x(1cm), sensor bar is to be positioned on top, or in front, of your TV and allows for the controller-magic to happen. Details follow in the next section, but the neatness of the concept starts becoming apparent right from the moment you first power-on your console.

The other advantage of the slim machine is that Nintendo managed to keep the retail price at logical levels. The Wii is considerably-to-insanely cheaper than the competitive bundles, even with the inclusion of Wii Sports. In addition, unlike the 20 pounds pricier Core Xbox 360, the unit includes a hard-drive, a paramount feature for care-free save-game management and access to internet content. Said hard-drive contains approximately 2.200 "blocks" of memory and with game-data averaging at most 2 blocks, it becomes apparent that the only way to fill it up is to store pictures and videos, and download classic games.

"The good:
Revolutionary controller design offers unique motion-sensitive gameplay options; built-in Wi-Fi delivers free online services and gameplay; Virtual Console has major nostalgia appeal; compatible with all GameCube games and controllers; built-in SD slot for storage and photo viewing; includes Wii Sports game; most affordable home game console.

The bad:
Controller eats batteries and takes some time to get used to; online gaming and community features hobbled by horrible "friends code" system; nunchuk controller sold separately; lacks the advanced HD graphics and surround sound found on the Xbox 360 and the PS3; requires a wired receiver unit placed near the TV to interface with wireless controllers; can't play CDs or DVDs.

The bottom line:
It lacks the graphical prowess and rich media features of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but the Nintendo Wii's combination of unique motion-sensitive controllers and emphasis on fun gameplay make the ultra-affordable console hard to resist.

Yes everyone knows it doesn't have the flashy graphics like the PS3 or the XBOX 360. But the Wii is still a great machine. There are enough different things to do with a Wii that keep it entertaining. When you're tired of playing games you can check out the different channels, and when that gets boring you can send messages to your friends, check the weather, check the news, view pictures, create more Miis. The WiiMote is a great invention and the WiiMote/Nunchuck combination are MUCH more comfortable than regular controllers which other systems have. It's generally cheaper than the other "Next Gen" systems, unless you buy it online where people jack up the prices. But if you can find one in a store like Best Buy, Game Stop or EB then you can get one for the retail price of $250 without the 200% markup of online sites. All in all I think I'd rather have a Wii as opposed to any other platform. Oh and I almost forgot, it plays all of your GameCube games as well. That's right it even plays those dinky little disks the same as it plays a normal sized one. It has 4 ports for your GameCube controllers and 2 ports for your GameCube memory cards. The Wii also has 2 USB ports for various uses. For example if you don't have a wireless internet connection you can buy the network adapter and plug in a Cat5 cable and play online through a wired connection. There's also the Wii Speak which is currently only available for use with Animal Crossing: City Folk, but I imagine this will be a very common peripheral for many future games.

In closing, the graphics aren't great but then again Nintendo has never been about graphics it's always focused on gameplay. The Wii is small and easily portable. It can do 16:9 or 4:3 so if you have a tube TV you're ok, but if you have a widescreen then that's fine too. It can connect through Component, Composite, S-Video... and maybe a few others I can't think of. My only complaint with the Wii is that it doesn't have a cable to connect to a Computer monitor. (DVI/VGA) You can use a TV tuner card on your PC to connect the Wii, but this usually generates severe lag as the card needs to process the images and relay them to the monitor causing a several second lag which makes this totally unbearable. BUT there are enough positives about the Wii to warrant my giving it 5-stars and two thumbs up.

Nintendo Wii is THE Next Gen Console!

Alright, the Wii is THE best console to get if you are looking for a next gen console! This is completely worth every dollar it costs!

Controls:

It is really easy to pick up and play for anybody! The controls are very easy to get used to and after an hour playing, it becomes almost second nature! All the buttons are in easy to locate places and the movement controls are very responsive and easy to use.

Graphics:

The graphics aren't as amazing as the Xbox 360's or the PS3's but it is a upgrade from the Gamecube and any games that were made for the Wii especially for the graphics look great!! Take Zelda: Twilight Princess for example, it looks beautiful on the Wii! Same goes for Metroid Prime Corruption 3. Overall the graphics aren't as great as the competition, but they still are pretty good combined with the gameplay and the games.

Games:

Most of the Nintendo published games are just unbeliveable! Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and Smash Bros. Brawl coming out soon, make the Wii library of games very large and very fun! I admit there are some crapy games out there which stinks especially after wasting lots of hard earned cash on them, but if reasearch is done correctly this shouldn't happen. For games, there is no shortage of them on the Wii and there shouldn't be for a long, long time.

Other Features:

The Wii really excells at having many things to do besides games. There's the Mii Channel, which lets you create little people who look like you and represent you in game. There is also a bulliton board and a Photo Channel where you can plug in a SD card and post and edit your favorite pictures! The Wii can also play old Gamecube games. It has four Gamecube controller ports and two Gamecube memory ports. I think that this is awsome and allows you not only to play Gamecube games, but use your save data!

Online Play:

There's also the Mii Vote channel which is pretty interesting, it lets you vote for certian things and guess which one will recieve the most votes. The Wii Shop Channel allows you to download free software or games for you Wii, the software is usually free except for the Wii Internet Channel, which is only $5. Even though the Internet Channel is $5, it lets you surf the web and even watch Youtube videos on the big screen, which is pretty awsome. Also internet function for the games excell, even if you have to get friend codes. All of this combined with the ability to download updates and other things make a great online experience!

Cons:

There are only a couple of things that I think are flawed. First the Friend Code system is a totally flawed. It is really hard just to get with a bunch of games and play the full game! Also for some games the motion sensor can get a little crazy and make the game do something that you didn't mean it to, but that isn't a big weakness.

Overall:

The Wii is a system for everyone, casual gamers, and hardcore gamers alike. I reccamend this system for anybody who's looking for a diferent and more fun way to play video games. This system gets an A++ from me!!

Whether they're young or old, expert gamers or beginners, Wii players will express themselves with intuitive motion control using the Wii Remote: a flick of the wrist to to swing a baseball bat or tennis racket, a backswing and follow-through to send a golf ball flying over a pristine fairway. Wii Sports, packaged with the Wii console, introduces players to those and many other experiences. Wii also taps into Nintendo's unrivaled legacy of great games with the Virtual Console. Connecting via wireless broadband to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Wii owners will be able to spend Virtual Console points to download selected classic games from NES, Super NES and N64 video game consoles. And through Wii Connect24, owners will be able to access even more content. Great product, the Wii Remote is definitely the part that separates this system from the rest of the pack. The Wii Remote is the primary controller for the console. It uses a combination of built-in accelerometers and infrared detection to sense its position in 3D space when pointed at the LEDs within the Sensor Bar. This design allows users to control the game using physical gestures as well as traditional button presses. The controller connects to the console using Bluetooth and features rumble as well as an internal speaker. The Wii Remote can connect to expansion devices through a proprietary port at the base of the controller. The device bundled with the Wii retail package is the Nunchuk unit, which features an accelerometer and a traditional analog stick with two trigger buttons. In addition, an attachable wrist strap can be used to prevent the player from unintentionally dropping or throwing the Wii Remote. Nintendo has also since offered a stronger strap and the Wii Remote Jacket to provide extra grip and protection. The Wii MotionPlus was announced as a device that connects to the Wii Remote to supplement the accelerometer and Sensor Bar capabilities and enable actions to be rendered identically on the screen in real time. Nintendo also revealed the Wii Vitality Sensor, a fingertip pulse oximeter sensor that connects through the Wii Remote.

The Wii is not just for the kids it is a game console made for all ages to enjoy. Don't take this the wrong way, but if you need exercise the Wii can help. The games for the Wii get you involved, you don't just sit and push buttons all the time. You have to do the actions with the remote. You might be thinking - how can moving a remote be fun? On other game consoles you have to push this button for that and this one for this and well you get the point. On the Wii you just move the remote to make the moves. Is this hard to master? If you are use to pushing buttons it will take you longer to get the hang of moving the remote. If you have not played the button games you will catch on very fast. Still trying to decide if you like the Wii? I will give you a few examples of how the remote works. On the Wii Sports game baseball is one of the games. To swing the bat you just hold the remote like a bat and swing when the ball comes, swing to early or to late you miss (strike),swing at just the right time and you hit the ball. If you swing soft the ball doesn't go as far, swing hard the ball goes futher. See it is just like real baseball. Golf is another - just swing to hit the ball. Pick your different irons for how far you want the ball to go. The Wii games always tell you how the remote will be used and have you perform the function to make sure you have got it. Also the Wii is nice if you have owned the Gamecube. The Wii plays the Gamecube games, has controller plugs for Gamecube controllers and Gamecube memory card slots. If you like to take digital pictures the Wii has SD memory card slots which enables you to view your pictures on your TV. The SD slots also enable you to expand the Wii's memory. My favorite features though are avialable if you have access to the internet, they are as follows : The Opera powered internet channel which allows you to view internet pages on your TV (of course you need internet service and a wireless access point). The Wii has parental controls that you set. The news channel lets you stay informed with headline news. Everyone votes channel is unique in that you vote on different questions and then predict what the majority of people wil say. When the results are in they break down into what men and women said , also different states and on worldwide polls they break down into what other countries said. Of course the forecast channel is helpful so you wil know when to stay in and play your Wii. The shop channel allows you to use Wii points (you have to buy these) to download older Nintendo system (NES, SNES, 64) games to your Wii. So imagine, you can play the original Super Mario or Zelda on your Wii using the Wii remote turned sideways as a controller or buy a classic controller designed for the these classic games. When you get your Wii connected to the internet you can go lay back on the couch and surf the web, that is nice. All in all the Wii is an unique gaming concept which really involves the player. I would recommend it to anyone.

The good: Revolutionary controller design offers unique motion-sensitive gameplay options; built-in Wi-Fi delivers free online services and gameplay; Virtual Console has major nostalgia appeal; compatible with all GameCube games and controllers; built-in SD slot for storage and photo viewing; includes Wii Sports game; most affordable home game console.

The bad: Controller eats batteries and takes some time to get used to; online gaming and community features hobbled by horrible "friends code" system; nunchuk controller sold separately; lacks the advanced HD graphics and surround sound found on the Xbox 360 and the PS3; requires a wired receiver unit placed near the TV to interface with wireless controllers; can't play CDs or DVDs.

The bottom line: It lacks the graphical prowess and rich media features of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but the Nintendo Wii's combination of unique motion-sensitive controllers and emphasis on fun gameplay make the ultra-affordable console hard to resist.

  Fun but frustrating

If you've had a hankerin' for one of these machines as I did, you should probably just go ahead and buy it. If you think it looks kind of gimmicky and not enough like a "hardcore" gaming system for you, then you're right and you shouldn't buy it.

With the Wii, the good folks and Nintendo have perfected 'social gaming', a concept that was previously relegated to a group of post-teenage boys sitting around a LAN connection (a group for which the word "social" is a bit of a stretch). But now it can be fun even for non-gamers to play (or even watch others play).

But all in all, the more frustrating qualities of the Wii probably outnumber the good qualities, especially when compared to other more powerful gaming systems.

What works:

The motion control remotes work remarkably better than you would expect, and after some getting used-to they are a fun departure from the standard controller.

The social concept, as some multiplayer games (Wii Sports, Rayman RR for example) are really fun to play as a group.

The Nintendo brand is as strong as ever, with more fun offerings from franchises like Mario and Zelda. The ability to download and play old titles from other systems means that it can even be fun to kick it old school.

What doesn't work:

The internet browser is infuriatingly bad. The system doesn't house enough memory to support full browsing functionality, and even with the biggest SD card you can find loaded into the machine, you're still going to move much slower and have a lot more issues than you would with a PC or PS3. Nintendo needs to take some responsibility to either improve this feature or remove it altogether. A corporate partnership with a company more familiar with connectivity would be advisable, too.

Remember your old 8-bit NES system where you had to take the game out, blow in everything, push the game back in EXACTLY this far and cross your fingers and pray for it to work? This one isn't quite as bad (yet), but it is full of bugs and in the 6 weeks I've owned it, I've already had half a dozen system crashes that forced me to unplug the console while it was still on because I had no other option.

The nickel and dime aspect is starting to get old already. There are SO many accessories and extras that you could send yourself to the poorhouse just trying to outfit your console. Memory is extra, nunchuck is extra, more controllers are extra, MORE controllers to play the games you can't play with the Wiimote are extra, HD-compatible cables are extra, Internet is extra, Wiipoints are extra, and we haven't even talked about buying a game yet!

Overall, I'm still happy that I purchased my Wii, because it satisfies my gamer's craving and allows me to play with my girlfriend or a group of friends. I am often disappointed in the limited features of the console, however, and totally acknowledge that for a 'true gamer', a PS3 or XBox360 would be a much better choice.

  Great system for everyone!!!
Review created: 05/23/08(updated 05/24/08)

These days it is hard to find a console that can satisfy everyone in the family . Well, the Wii brings a new generation of competitive family gaming that's just way too much fun!!!

Console graphics- 8/10
The graphics aren't bad but, they are certainly an upgrade from the Nintendo’s other consoles. Nintendo promised better graphics and that's what you get!! It is nothing compared to the HD in a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, but it is definitely a step up for Nintendo.

Sound quality- 9/10
Sound is great. From the realistic games to the addicting nonsense games the Wii provides a very aesthetically pleasing experience. There is also a little speaker in the Wii Remote that most games utilize for some very distinct, but very useful sounds.

Online setup- 9/10.
I really love the way the online setup works. It’s easy to setup with a wireless connection, or buy the adapter to plug directly in with a cable. There are tons of thing you can do online with the Wii. My favorite is the Wii Shop. You can go on the “Shop Channel” and buy old-school Nintendo games. This is a great feature for me because I can never get enough of the old Mario games from the Nintendo and Super Nintendo systems. You can also access weather and news and many other features. Many games also come with online capabilities such as playing friends, playing random people, and sharing information. Although the Wii online is great, I still prefer the setup of Xbox Live.

Controls- 9/10
The Wii-remote and Nunchuck are very nice additions. The motion sensing gameplay is just way too much fun!! The only downside is some games it just feels awkward. But you can plug in an old Gamecube controller and your ready to go!!! You can also buy a Wii classic controller. The design is similar to the original SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). This controller is great for the older games.

Games-10/10
So far, the wii has a game for every person’s taste. It's fun for the whole family. The included Wii Sports games are plently to keep you entertained for countless hours!! It’s tough to tear away from the Wii sports, and add in all the other available games and you have non-stop fun!!!

All in all- 10/10
I am more than impressed with the Nintendo Wii console. It has far exceeded my expectations in every aspect. It is definitely a great system for the family… When I go back to the parent’s house I even have them playing with me!!! Not to mention all my friends and their families that love it. Although the Wii is best to play with other people, I would say that even an individual would love this system. And for only $250 you can’t go wrong!!! It is worth every single penny. You can’t go wrong with the Wii. A small price tag, large quantities, tons of games and options makes this system a must-have!!!

Gaming Excellence: A Longtime Gamer's Perspective
Review created: 03/13/08(updated 03/14/08)

The Nintendo Wii is quite possibly the best money I have spent on a video game system or game in many years. There are downsides but they are worth it.

Most hardcore gamers may choose to differ with my opinions but if you hear me out I think I can explain why. My modern video game library includes everything from Crazy Taxi (PS2), Super Monkey Ball(GC) to the Grand Theft Auto Series (PS2), Halo series (Xbox), and Unreal Tournament 3(PC). I love video games, don't discount the Wii because of its lesser hardware.

Reasons the Wii Sucks:
The Wii is made for a more "casual" (I really dislike that expression) audience, and as such it lacks the performance that the other systems have brought to the table. The Wii lacks the processing power that makes even some of the mid-end games to lag and have jumpy not seamless graphics (but definitely not terrible. Some of the games seem a little bit watered down. The low amount of system memory makes the Wii fill with memory long before excellent memory taking opportunities are gone.

The Reasons the Wii is the Best:
The Wii's playability will satisfy gamers of all ages and styles. The greatness of the Wii is its simplistic intuitive design. From the initial start-up of the Wii you (assuming you already have a wireless network going) you can get online and start downloding classics from their large assortment of games from the NES, SNES, N64, Sega, Turbographics, and NeoGeo these include absolute classics which you can hardly get your hands on anymore (even through E-Bay) One great thing about the Wii that the other systems can't boast is FULL backwards compatablity to their previous system (Gamecube).

The Wii's playability is the best of any of the next-gen consoles, plus it has taken video games in a step where it need to go... towards revolution. Like it or not Video games were/are dying. All that was coming out was high-budget high-graphics, story-line lacking games. The Wii has introduced new blood into the body of video games. Many mini-game style games (Wii Sports/Wii Play/Link's Crossbow training) as well as some more in-depth story driven games (Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess/Call of Duty) Plus plenty of in between. There are plenty of mediocer games but this is a sign of a healthy system. Plus the technology is still being learned by the developers I would imagine in the next few years we will be seeing an amazing amount of great titles coming to the Wii. If games of this era are dis-satisfying, you can access their very large assortment of classic games from their online shop. Including some that were not released in the US! The Wii boasts all this new user-friendly technology at a price that is a FRACTION of the cost of other next-gen consoles. The best thing about the Wii is the name Nintendo. Since my purchase of the Wii (Winter 2006) There has been two safety changes to the new units being shipped. Nintendo has sent me replacements (at no cost to me $0) these items are 1-Stronger wrist straps 2-Wii-Mote Jackets.

In conclusion The Wii is affordable and fun, no matter your gaming style. And with a name like Nintendo attached you know you are getting a product that is backed with the kind of service you would expect from the most recognizable name in the video-game industry since it's advent. I have not yet met a dissatisfied Wii owner (I'm sure you could find a few) where as upset Xbox360 and PS3 owners are a dime-a-dozen. Wii! You won't be dissapointed!

I cant say enough about Nintendo's new console. It is indeed the next generation of gaming. Each game requires you to use the remote in a different way, and with different movements. The games themselves are probably some of the best Nintendo has ever released. The Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess is enough to make any Zelda fan take a knee, especially when they see the way the game is handled. Excite Truck is another game, you actually steer your truck by turning the remote sideways and using it like a steering wheel. Because of the extraordinary range of the wireless remote, you can easily play this game from a few rooms away, akin to the Game Cube's Wavebird controller. Speaking of the gamecube, Wii is flawlessly backwards compatible. Pop in your GCN minidisc after taking out your normal sized wii disc, (thats right, wii can somehow play minidiscs AND standard discs with a loading slot like a car CD player), plug in your game cube controllers and play, making the old games new again. You can also download many games from the originial NES, SNES, Sega, N64, and turbographx64.
