An Aide to Wii Fun: Review of the Wii Nunchuk

The Wii remote is definitely a great tool to use to play your games. There are plenty of things players can do with the Wii remote to truly have fun in games. But sometimes, the Wii remote can’t offer a gamer everything. Sometimes, the Wii remote needs a little help to make gameplay even better. That’s where the Nunchuk attachment comes in!

With the Nunchuk attachment, you have a simple piece, about three quarters the size of the Wii remote, that attaches with a cord to give the appearance of a Nunchuk. It contains an analog stick, and two triggers: The C button and the Z button. With the analog stick, gamers can now control characters in 3D space as they did with traditional games, leaving the Wii remote to all the motion-based action. And with the C and Z buttons, two more buttons are easily at your disposal to further employ in-game commands.

The best part about the Nunchuk attachment?

It, too senses motion. While it is not capable of being detected in 3D space, as the pointer function on the Wii remote, it does completely detect the actual motions the player makes. So in, say, Red Steel, when you want to reload your weapon, a simple shake of the Nunchuk reloads for you. Or, in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a shake of the Nunchuk allows you to spin your character around with his sword, taking out any enemies within its radius. And in Wii Sports: Boxing, the Nunchuk acts as your left hand, with the Wii Remote in your right, representing your two fists for a full on boxing match!

While the Nunchuk is not as important as the Wii Remote, and can only be used in conjunction with is as of now, it is still a great add on to have (so great, in fact, that it comes with the Wii), and is even necessary in some games with slightly more complex control schemes. With the Wii Remote in one hand and the Nunchuk in the other, Wii players are unstoppable!
