This is the only gamecube wireless controller produce by nitendo. Excellent product to say the least and very hard to find cheap. very well made and compatible with the wii console. I have try most of the after market models and non match up to the wavebird.

The wavebird is a good wireless controller for the gamecube or the Wii. It's not great but it;'s the best thing they have to offer. I prefer the PS2/3 controllers to all the others.
if you can snag one or two of them they make playing on the Wii or the GC with out wire awesome. I've used the gamestop brand (a madcat) and it was okay, but they are not made to last. The wavebird (dumb name) is the best wireless for the CG or the wii. I bough two for less than 50 shipped and they are worth the money.

I bought a set of 4 of these controllers to use when playing GameCube games on my Wii, because I wanted to avoid having dangling cords everywhere. So far I've used them for Mario Kart Double Dash and Prince of Persia Sands of Time with terrific success.
I am most impressed with the fact that when using them you don't have to point the receiver in the direction of the controller--what I mean is that the little receiver boxes plug in to the top of the Wii but they are able to read the controllers wherever in the room people are using them. I thought I would have to move around my Wii setup and flip it on it's side to point out into the room to maintain line of sight but it's not even an issue.
I was a little bit worried that the thumb sticks would be worn out (loose) like they became for my N64 controllers, but these seem to have held up fine for their age. They have a good substantial weight and feel too, unlike the ultra-light hollow feel of the newer PS3 controllers.
The finish is called "Platinum" I think, but I saw other auctions selling gray ones too. The model number stamped on the bottom is DOL-004 and also located on the bottom is a channel selector thumb wheel so you can set each controller on a different channel from 1-16.
They take 2 AA batteries each and I haven't used them enough yet to need replacement, so I can't say how good or bad the battery life is.
All being said, I'm very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone who wants to play GC games on their Wii.

The price I paid for a new one of these was amazing compared to the average 60-100 they go for at the end of an auction. I purchased a $15 wireless controller just to find out that having the joystick in a diagonal position will not have the character running, hence the mandatory purchase of the wavebird for anyone wanting wireless play on their gc or wii.

Wavebird Wireless - Out of ProductionI bought this Nintendo Wavebird Wireless control for my son's Wii this past Christmas. He says it works really great and is dead-on accurate. I like the wireless feature; the price was most outstanding. This control is no longer in production... I am fortunate to have been able to obtain the Wavebird.

I did a lot of research before I made this purchase. I have purchased several off brand controllers and had mixed results every time. These are official Nintendo wireless controllers, and I feel that they're worth the extra effort to get. <P>
They perform fantastic and are able to connect and control well even over the 20-foot maximum distance that was advertised (IGN reported over 60 feet). The controller feels and functions identically to the standard GameCube controller except for the absence of the rumble pack, which I can do without. <P>
It has a nice feature that you can select the frequency that is being broadcast when multiple controllers are within range of each other, so the signals don't cross. Nintendo says up to sixteen WaveBird controllers can be used in the same area if each is set to a different channel. The only drawback I have found is that the controllers and the receivers seem to be paired and can't be swapped. I have 3 now and I've tried.
