Nintendo GameCube - Game console - jet black

Description
The Nintendo GameCube focuses on gameplay and is "the ultimate TV game machine and the first of its kind." Nintendo GameCube was created with the purpose of realizing the highest level of performance and to enhance the productivity of software development. Instead of going for the highest possible performance, which does not contribute to software development, Nintendo decided to create a developer-friendly next generation TV game machine that maintained above-standard capabilities. In order to accomplish this, designers have painstakingly removed the "bottlenecks", which hinder an efficient system. They have introduced 1T-RAM technology, which has a minimum of delays, into the main memory and the Graphics LSI Mixed Memory. Also, secondary cache memory with a large capacity was implemented in the MPU. With this combination Nintendo has succeeded at creating reliable functionality that can be used with actual games. Nintendo has been creating a world in which the player can enjoy the feeling of actually touching the "world" created by the software. In addition, the player can benefit by building a bond with the game and characters in it. The Nintendo GameCube carries on the "DNA" of Nintendo games and gives birth to a new kind of entertainment that surpasses existing concepts of what great gaming is.

GameCube great for younger gamers & adults too!

Nintendo GameCube has been a terrific addition to our son's gaming collection. Purchased 2 years ago for Christmas, we've added to our collection of controllers and games over time and this is still the favorite.

The system is terrific for younger children, because Nintendo offers so many choices of games rated E for everyone. The Mario Party games are great for single or multi-player fun and the other Mario games, including Mario Kart Double Dash and the new Mario Baseball are loads of fun for all ages.

The game system itself is fairly easily to understand and set up and the controllers are easy to use and also comfortable for small hands to hold. Seperate wireless controllers can be purchased to allow players to sit farther away from the game than a wired controller offers. Memory cards can be easily used to save games and keep your player on their favorite level.

The price of the system is considerably less than others, and while the graphics are not on the same level as the Xbox or PS2, we have yet to hear a complaint from the kids who have been playing our system. With all the accessories that are available to use with this system like the video screen, gameboy player and additional controllers and memory cards, this system will provide lots of playtime for years to come.

Great potential... Lack of great games
    Review created: 09/22/05

I have a long line of Nintendo blood in me, so when the wave of next generation systems arrived a couple years ago – Xbox, Playsation 2 and Gamecube – I gravitated to the Gamecube because my affinity for Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 lead me there. The system itself was pleasing – small, cute and new – and it rendered excellent graphics, came with a new and comfortable controller, and arrived amidst a flurry of rumored and expected game titles that would satisfy any Nintendo buff’s cravings… how could I resist another go with Donkey Kong, Mario, Zelda and the consistent multi-platform greats like Madden and EA?

Well, the trouble for me wasn’t the quality of the system or the graphics… rather, it was the lack of great games. Nintendo didn’t publish games at the rate that the others did – perhaps wanting to only release great ones – but whatever the reason was, the variety was lacking. This was massively disappointing considering that Nintendo has the best video game franchise possible – and they barely tapped into the potential… and that’s the word that represents the Nintendo Gamecube for me: potential. It had the potential to be great. To be the best. And the technology was capable. The games were the limiting factor though.

That said – while I wouldn’t recommend buying a new system in the stores – eBay does offer used systems and packages at such low prices that it is worth the purchase – especially if you pick up these games:

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
    Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
    Wario World
    Super Smash Bros. Melee
    Super Mario Sunshine
    Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
    Animal Crossing
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
    Metroid Prime
    True Crime: Streets of LA
    Soul Calibur II
    Eternal Darkness
    Mario Power Tennis
    F-Zero GX
    Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
    Resident Evil Zero
    Super Mario Sunshine
    Donkey Konga
    Mario Party 4
    Pikmin
    Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
    Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
    Resident Evil 4

I bought this system hoping for somthing great. This I did get, after saving for a while me and my brother bought a Nintendo Gamecube! I love everything about it from the opening sound effects to the graphic and the games. Some people believe this system is only for little kids, however on the contrary some of the biggest gamers i know love this system and may even be there favorite! I love all the classic games like the mario addition - Super Mario Sunshine; Mario Power Tennis; All the sports games you can think of! The controllers fit your hand perfectly and seems nintendo put a lot of time and effort into this design. My favorite games for this system, however, are Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime. I also believe Nintendo has limited there games made for this system so not as to let that many M - games, which is a good thing. Overall this is one of the best systems out at this time to me!

I love that it has mostly games that suit younger gamers, but it also has very violent games like Metroid and turok. Silly games and serious games. Overall a very good system with pretty good graphics.
