The Nintendo Entertainment system is one of the building block of household gaming. It great games such as Super Mario Bros 1,2 and 3, Zelda, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Tetris and MANY more.
The boxy NES while still being great, had some flaws. The connectors which read the game could become corroded over time and completely prevent the system from working, forcing you to buy a new 72-pin connector. The games being pushed down to play also caused them to bend over time.
The NES 2 however, does not have this problem. The games are put in at the top so no pushing down is required bending the pins. It has a higher percent chance of working first try (around 90%). It also lacks the 10NES chip which means games are easier to read, and makes the system able to play BOTH US and European games thanks to the lack of this chip. One flaw it has is the lack of an AV output on the back, which makes it extremely difficult to display properly on PAL TVs (playing it through a US VCR works perfectly though)
I believe it is a must buy for any NES collector, despite the flaws. =)
