Nintendo DS Lite - Crimson/black

You can read my other reviews & see I am a big SONY fan. I love my PSP but this system is Awesome.

PROS: A solid improvement over the Nintendo DS, The DS Lite is noticeably slimmer, lighter and the screens are quite a bit brighter & have better viewing angles than the original DS. It also has 4 brightness settings compared to the original DS which only has 2. The new buttons are more pronounced and I think they have a better quality feel to them over the original DS. Game load times are a bit faster than my PSP and battery life so far has been an average of about 5 1/2 hours.

CONS: The multimedia content is still only available in Japan. Aesthetically, GBA games protrude out a little too far, although it is nice to have the compatibility, they look a little out of place. They now have flash cards and pass cards available for the DS lite which will eliminate the protruding issue and offer storage of downloaded DS games along with many other options, but it will cost you. Online gaming can be irritating. The WiFi capability worked great but finding players online to play with is another story. Random games are not as easily found as they are on other consoles but if you are playing a popular game at a good time of day your chances of locating some competition are much better. Graphics do pale in comparison to my PSP. No audio/video playback or web-surfing capability.

All in all this is a great unit for portable gaming and I would recommend it to anyone interested. Faster load times & hours of game play make this unit worthwhile to own. If you want to have the most mature game titles and a somewhat average multimedia playback ability then a PSP may be a better investment.

Nintendo loves to reinvent their handheld video game consoles, and we'd probably make fun of them if they weren't so good at it. Take their new DS Lite, for example. This handheld video game console is better than the original in almost every way, and yet Nintendo is selling it for the same price.

Obviously, the DS Lite is smaller and lighter than the original video game console. But until you hold it in your hands, you don't realize how much smaller it really is. The DS Lite is nearly two-thirds the size of the original console--about as small as Nintendo could make it and still have room for both screens and both hands.

The dual screens have also been improved. There are four brightness settings available, and even the dimmest one is brighter than the original DS console. The bottom screen is still the touch screen, although the stylus is now stored in the right edge of the video game console.

The button layout of the video game console has undergone some changes as well. The D-pad is slightly smaller, but feels just as responsive, and the Start and Select buttons have been relocated below the main buttons on the right side. The power switch is now on the right edge of the video game console, eliminating any confusion between on/off and start/select.

The DS Lite is still backwards compatible with the vast library of GameBoy Advance games, but the smaller frame means that the GBA cartridges stick out of the system when they're inserted. It doesn't interfere with the gameplay, however, and the video game console comes with a filler cartridge that protects the GBA slot when not in use.

Like the original DS, the Lite features built-in WiFi for multiplayer gaming. There's no Web browser available yet, but the free online service allows for head-to-head playing of many DS titles.

The video game console is only available in white here in the U.S., although other colors are on the way. But iPod white isn't so bad, since it's been reported that the darker colors really pick up fingerprint smudges.

If you already own a Nintendo DS, you may not find the smaller redesign worth the upgrade. But if you're in the market for a handheld video game console, the Nintendo DS Lite is the one to choose.

The Nintendo DS Lite is truly a big breakthrough for all gamers out there! The Nintendo DS Lite brings about many new possibilities for games that have never been seen before! With a touch-screen, gamers can have much more control and precision compared to the traditional toggle stick. The touch-screen is really the closest thing you can get to a mouse for gaming! The in-built mic is also a great bonus! Games like Nintendogs have used it to its fullest potential by allowing you to control the cute puppies using speech! The dual-screens also let you have the ease of viewing your maps or other information while you can still control your character using the other screen!

Bought it for my Grandson but decided to keep it. The graphics are bright and vivid, easy to use...Love the Brain Games. Small enough I could stuff it in my purse....

I bought this for my son so he would have something to do while his little sisters watched movies when we are in the car. He cannot put it down! The Brain Games are his favorites and he constantly tried beating his high scores. There are other games too but this one is awesome, he's actually thinking and not just button pushing.

it's very great for adults and children. it has nice games rated E through Mature. You cna use it oin many different places and its very conviniant! Theres also games for education and for fun! Its a very great excperiance to use it! 5 star!

I like that there are educational games for the game, such as brain age, brain age 2, etc. I decided to buy this game for my wife, we previously bought one for my son on his brithday. And I noticed she play it as much as he did. So I bought her one for Christmas, and my gets his all to himself now.

I like everything about the Nintendo game. I bought it because my friend was using it to learn Spanish and now so am I. However, you need a headset to use it best and the headset I bought was defective. I think it shipped from Asia and was free shipping and only 5 dollars so now I am reluctant to send it back and pay shipping. So buy the headset carefully. I can hear though it but the microphone part if it doesn't work. I had already written a good review of the headset seller before I realized it didn't work right. Now I see why they can offer free shipping.

The item was shipped 3 days before my 6 year old daughters birthday and I was impressed that it came in such a timely fashion. The seller didnt inform me that the game console's hinge was broken and the game will close if tilted a certain way. The game was priced right and shipped fast and that is the reason for my four star rating. I would have liked the seller to inform me of the default in the console so I could have been prepared for it though.
