Album Notes As a single-disc anthology of his cinema music (mostly) outside of his scores for Federico Fellini, this collection by Italian composer Nino Rota is a sketchily plotted, barely edifying volume. Here are themes and incidentals from War and Peace (King Vidor, 1956), The Leopard (Luchino Visconti, 1963), La Strada (Fellini, 1954), and Waterloo (Sergei Bondarchuk, 1970). Why EMI chose multiple selections from these four pictures rather than single cuts from more movies is puzzling and slightly maddening. ~ Thom Jurek
