It certainly helps that Jodi Picoult is definitely one of my favorite authors. I have always admired her strong, clear writing style, her ability to evoke emotions throughout an entire story and her very gentle way of placing plot twists and turns in unexpected ways.
I read this book in a day, scarcely able to set it down for an instant, and when I actually had to, I found myself genuinely missing the characters, wondering what would happen next and more.
The book has a series of flashbacks that are very well laid out in the story. There is no confusion about timing or events and it was a wonderful way to explain the siatuations that led to the end result.
Ms. Picoult took a very serious and powerful subject and told the story through multiple situations and characters. It was hard to dislike any of the characters even for what they had done. The story unfolds as a school shooting has taken place and the events that led up to it are told in a very sympathetic fashion. There is a major twist in the story that comes to light towards the end of the story that you didn't see coming, and it made for a powerful message that clearly makes you think and wonder about what goes on inside a persons mind.
I checked this book out of the library originally to read it, when I finished it, I bought the book. I have read it twice since then and will probably read it again. Ms. Picoult's vivid story telling makes her a favorite among all of her readers and this book is by far one of her best.
