A good book, but a little wordy

I couldn't put this book down for the first half of it, but toward the end, it started to drag. Some parts are definitely unnecessarily wordy. Overall, however, I found it enjoyable to read. A good casual beach read.

this book says it all in this page turner. It takes 19 minutes to color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game, mow your lawn, do laundry for five people, and 19 min for your world to tear apart when their is a school shooting in your town. will this small town ever heal. when the town geek filled with rage from years of abuse turns fire on the school for revenge. Great book by far one of her best

An Amazing Author Has Once Again Impressed Her Readers

It certainly helps that Jodi Picoult is definitely one of my favorite authors. I have always admired her strong, clear writing style, her ability to evoke emotions throughout an entire story and her very gentle way of placing plot twists and turns in unexpected ways.

I read this book in a day, scarcely able to set it down for an instant, and when I actually had to, I found myself genuinely missing the characters, wondering what would happen next and more.

The book has a series of flashbacks that are very well laid out in the story. There is no confusion about timing or events and it was a wonderful way to explain the siatuations that led to the end result.

Ms. Picoult took a very serious and powerful subject and told the story through multiple situations and characters. It was hard to dislike any of the characters even for what they had done. The story unfolds as a school shooting has taken place and the events that led up to it are told in a very sympathetic fashion. There is a major twist in the story that comes to light towards the end of the story that you didn't see coming, and it made for a powerful message that clearly makes you think and wonder about what goes on inside a persons mind.

I checked this book out of the library originally to read it, when I finished it, I bought the book. I have read it twice since then and will probably read it again. Ms. Picoult's vivid story telling makes her a favorite among all of her readers and this book is by far one of her best.

Great book, could not put it down. This book was recommended to me and I now have all of Jodi Picoult's books. Nineteen Minutes should be read by every parent (both mothers and fathers) of a child that is attending elementary, secondary school, high school and college. Maybe then parents will know what to look for in their children.

Wonderful book with incredible characters. Jodi rips a major issue (bullying and school shootings) from the headlines and helps us with the unanswered WHY?
A must read for parents, teenagers, teachers and school administrators and a yes for people who care about people.

It's a very dark book. Yes, most of her stuff is somewhat "dark", but in the face of Columbine and the recent shootings at Virginia Tech, this was hard to read. I kept reading it because, as usual, Jodi Picoult's stuff is absolutely great but this was one tough book to get through and I didn't enjoy the ride.

I liked the way the characters were portrayed and you were able to get to know them quite well. The surprise ending is Mrs. Picoult's trademark in the books I have read so far and it's difficult to put the book down. I bought the book because I loved My Sister's Keeper and The Plain Truth. Can't wait to get more of her books.

Yet another great story by Jodi Picoult...A must read!

As a student who attended Rocori high school in cold spring, mn, where cliques were abundant and a school shooting occurred, I would have to say that this book was very realistic and shocking at the same time. Jodi does a magnificant job at creating the characters she did for this book and makes you realize that bullying in school is very serious and can lead to something so unexpected. She makes you question whether or not you feel sorry for the suspect or if you hate him for what he did. This book was so hard to put down and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

I really like this author, but did not love this book like her others. I felt the characters were not as developed and the story was very predictable. It was good but not as great at My Sister's Keeper or some of her other works. It's still a good read, though.

Exactly what you'd expect from Jodi Picoult

I first began reading Jodi Picoult when I picked up a copy of My Sister's Keeper at the airport on a business trip. Ever since then I've been hooked on her books.

Each of her stories revolve around a moral delimenna and ends up in court. All of the characters seem very real and you can really feel the pain, joy, anguish and most often heartbreak that they go through during the story.

Nineteen Minutes essentially is a story about a teen who is bullied and eventually retaliates in the worst way possible - by shooting up his school. But if you dismiss this book as "just another one of THOSE stories" you will have missed a journey that you shouldn't.

Disturbing, challenging & hard to put down. AWESOME!

Our neighborhood book group selected this thought provoking book and everyone was pretty much in agreement about this one - Excellent! Although the subject matter is disturbing, this book is extremely well written and generates a lot of thought and challenges to paradigms. Picoult's style of writing made this book very readable and, for me, hard to put down. The story moves around with many unexpected twists and turns. At our book club, this one generated the most discussion of any book we've chosen to date. I think all parents would benefit from reading this book.

The beginning was really better than the rest of it. After a while the book drags and goes of into things that just weren't important to the story. Disapointing and surprising from this author.
The other thing that I have to mention is Peter's brother and how lame his character was.I wonder if the author edited his storyline out? It never fully developed as important to the story at all- puzzling.

I liked this book so much that I have recommended it to a number of friends. I purchased it initially because the subject matter interested me. I am not a weeper, but one particular chapter brought tears to my eyes. It is an extremely fascinating take on what causes such tragedies.

Shipping took a very long time. The book was in excellent shape and I am happy with the purchase, just not thrilled with how long it took to get to me.
