Nine Dragons
I read this book because I love Michael Connelly and his character Harry Bosch and can't wait for each new book to come out. Harry Bosch is such an interesting and complex character, full of baggage but nevertheless appealing and likable. Plus, the reader finds out all this neat stuff about the fictional Los Angeles Police Department (which is probably not far from reality) and how investigations in general are conducted. Michael Connelly is easy reading but full of content. His plots involve up to date problems the police have to deal with which adds to the interest, such as his latest book, Nine Dragons, detailed in regard to Asian gangs that have sprung up in the U.S.
The setting for his stories is, in general, Los Angeles and he mentions street names and building locations, including the Parker Center Police Headquarters, which are well-known to anyone who knows about L.A.
