Nikon Speedlight SB-600 TTL Flash

This flash is by far the best flash that I have found for my Nikon. For the first time external flash user, it can be a little intimidating at first (it is a completely new world of photography to learn). It is very tempting to just use the automatic settings every time you need your flash but I assure you that your photography will suffer for it. It is definitely in your best interest to fully learn this flash's capabilities. With this being said, the product manual is very user friendly!

This flash can be set to fully auto or manual. Being able to adjust the compensation of the brightness of the flash as well as the zoom as been a life saver for more times than I can count. Another great option is the ability to swivel the flash both horizontally and vertically. Bouncing the flash off of walls or ceilings instead of dead shooting your subject allows for much better compensation and greatly reduces unwanted back shadows. This feature also allows you to play with intentional shadows and light direction.

The last feature that I would like to touch on is the recharge rate of the flash. I was very impressed with the speed at which I could take pictures. You will not miss that special moment because you are waiting for the flash to recharge. This flash takes 4 double A batteries and seems to conserve the energy of them very well. You should be able to get through a night's shooting without replacing these batteries but it is always a good idea to have extra on hand just in case.

It is truly a wonderful flash light. The SB400 is nice too, but SB600 has more features like wireless control, flash head can bounce up and to the sides, powerful enough for general use. It can be set to auto TTL, so works like a p&S. Also can be set to manual control if desire.
Photos look very natural when light are bounced off the ceiling or to the wall. No other adjustment needed as it is TTL. Everyone can take beautiful pictures. Worth every penny. Highly recommended.

The Nikon Speedlight SB-600 is an excellent on camera TTL flash, but for my purposes it's real function is as a remote flash in the Nikon creative lighting system. It works great as a remote flash with the new SB-900 or the older SB-800.

This flash is a great one. It is high quality and looks great. Don't be fooled by the off brand flashes for a nice dslr. This is the real thing.

Just buy one. seriously. Two things that you need to take great pictures are a good lens and a decent flash. this one is more than decent!

After a little research, it was the best buy for my Nikon D200. I could not wait to read the manual. It is very handy and user friendly. Having my "highlight warnings on" on my camera, I can easily adjust the light intensity until I get satisfied.

I previously used an older SB24 speed light for my indoor and flash fill photography needs. At times it felt like, no pun intended, shooting in the dark. With my Nikon D60, all settings for the flash were manual and did not communicate to my camera so the camera had to be set manually as well. The results were, at times, unpredictable. Now I have seen the light with the SB600 and could never go back. The flash's communication with the camera is the biggest perk and makes it easy to turn on, point, and shoot resulting in fantastic lighting indoors and out. Smaller high points include a built in flash diffuser which is detectable by the flash when it is flipped down, one button to controll both flash elevation and rotation (the 24 had 2 seperate buttons for this), and a simplified button layout. I LOVE this flash and would recommend it to anyone from a casual Nikon picture taker to a professional wedding photographer.

I have been trying to find a SB600 flash but was not willing to pay the prices the stores wanted. When I saw this on ebay I jumped at the opportunity. The price was great and so was the quality of the product. The seller shipped the item to me in real fast time. I would definitely buy from him again.

In my nearly 40-years of experience with Nikon products, I have always been pleased with the quality & durability of camera bodies & lenses. This is my first Nikon flash unit, purchased specifically because it electronically integrates with my new Nikon D5000 DSLR. To date, this flash unit functions precisely as expected.

I particularly like the ability to increase or decrease the flash output by merely pushing a "+" or "-" button for 1/3-stop increments. This is quite handy for macro-photography of light-colored or dark-colored subjects.

The built-in, drop-down wide angle, prismatic diffuser allows corner-to-corner flash coverage with my wide-angle zoom Nikkor lens. as with any flash, illumination drop-off is apparent at distance, but the automatic exposure coordination of flash output, (camera) ISO selection, & aperture (f-stop) is quite helpful, resulting in far less bracketing.

The illuminated control panel is great for day or night use. The unit internally shifts light pattern to match angle selection of Nikkor zoom lenses (TTL accomodation), or full manual output can be quickly selected.

Overall, I know that I made the correct choice in purchasing the SB-600.

This is a great addition to my Nikon and lens collection. I wish I would have gotten this sooner. It's easy to attach and easy to use - fully automatic within a certain lens range. It's intuitive to use and the flash has a much longer range than I expected. Now I can take pics of people and objects with no shadow or a very diffused shadow, no harsh flash thanks to the built-in diffuser, and much better balance for back-lit subjects. The con is that it's heavy, so it's not the kind of thing that's always on the camera. You have to plan ahead and have it in your camera bag. But it's really nice and makes my pictures so much more professional.

I bought the Nikon SB-600 TTL Flash because it gives me more resources to digital photos with my Nikon D100. Its very easy to automatic flash photography.

It is the ideal flash for my camera. The flash recycle quickly with fresh batteries. Love the rotating head. It will work with the next camera I buy.

Have used over exterior flash units and this has definately been the best one. Great product for inside shots and with a diffuser attached, there is minimal harsh shadows with a nice clean softened effect. With the ability to manually adjust the settings on the flash, it allows creative work especially in club settings.

It was a present for my son in low. Sorry, it took a while to sent the sppedlight abroad. He likes it so much.

I recently took a camera class to become a better photographer. The speedlight was highly recommended by my instructor as a tool to take better photos. This Nikon speedlight is easy to use and has greatly enhanced my photography work.

As a pro-photographer, for many years, I have previously used the Metz45 professional flash.

After switching to Digital Nikons, first trying the Coolpix 5700 & later "maturing" to the D-50,
(I stopped doing pro-jobs, by then)I I searched for a SMALL, quick, but flexible flash. I bought the SB-600 on Ebay for $182 & was surprised at its small size.
Yet the performance & flexibility are the REAL innovation: it weighs next to nothing & is small enough to be packed in a side-pocket. The possibility to swivel, turn-around & literally aim at almost ANY angle PLUS the speed of filling the capacitor [for the next shot] surprised me, after years of having to wait... and wait. Yet the most amazing fact about this Not-professional-looking flash was its PERFORMANCE - the "TTL effect", if you like, is quite a lot more than I expected.
I use my D-50 [mostly] in its Program Mode - it enables most simply to shoot with "under" or "over" exposures, divided into 1/2 or 1/3 f-stop very easily. The SB-600 is SO precise, in its response to these minute changes, that shooting with the flash feels almost "natural" - with hardly any sense of added inconvenience.
A small, sturdy, solid feel & a precise, easy to aim to almost ANY direction, makes this the BEST TTL I ever had.
The price has changed little over the last few years, but while the smaller model [SB-400] is a bit too "limited", the prices for the stronger models [SB-800 and above] are quite a lot higher...
and for MOST photographers - not really necessary. For its price, precision, ease-of-use & speed,
this is the BEST Nikon TTL flash for the money!!! No competition at all, in fact. Try to get it for less than $200 & you will be very happy with all it can do.
