The Nikon N65 is a great 35mm film camera. It incorporates most of the newest technologies that Nikon developed for the higher end N80 and pro level cameras. The dynamic auto focus and matrix metering make this camera very easy to use in complete auto mode while it still has the ability to shoot in manual modes. Aperture priority, shutter priority, exposure bracketing and one of the few film cameras that uses the Nikon ML-L3 remote control shutter release option. Paired with a Nikon lens, this camera will take spectacular pictures reliably...I own two digital cameras that are relegated to shoot technical pictures like construction details or machinery. When I want to capture beauty, the sunset, landscapes, I use the N65. Film photography is still the choice for many, even those with digitals that want the shutter release speed of a 35mm camera. A light weight, easy to use and inexpensive camera that takes a great picture.

Best film SLR for your buck! Mostly easy to use. The only part that is a little confusing is changing the aperture while in manual mode with the aperture and shutter speed buttons instead of on the lens. But this feature actually makes it faster to use once u get used to it. Its very light and easy to carry. Plus Nikon lenses are great!

I'm not going to get technical with this review, as I have not used the camera extensively yet. The camera came with two sets of instructions. A "quick photo guide" and a more extensive instruction booklet. Both were easy to read and understand. The camera was purchased for my 9 year old son to use. I have always loved film photography, and he seemed to take a keen interest in it also. After he read the quick guide instructions we set a program mode on the dial, and started shooting some rolls of film. We have horses so we started with them as our shooting subjects. The camera works great!...and takes some great pictures!!! It is as simple and as complex to use as YOU want it to be...Short of being a totally professional use camera I think ANYONE would be happy with the N65 camera. The program modes are easy to pick and use. It has Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Close-up (Macro), Sports Continuous, Night Scene, as well as Auto Multi Program, Shutter Priority, and Manual modes. Just about any combination of programs to get creative with your photography skill level. The N65 also has a built in, pop up speed light (flash). I would say that if my 9 year old and I could take some pretty good pictures, anyone else would be able to do a great job as well. The only complaint I would have is that the body of this camera is polycarbonate (plastic). I love the heavy feel of metal and aluminum so it was a little sad to feel this superlight weight camera in my hands when it arrived. But that being known, the light weight WAS appreciated by my young son. I'm sure when we are carrying the camera around to use it I will not be complaining about the weight then. I know that if we treat it like a camera should be treated it will serve us very well for many many years to come. The camera was purchased VERY economically. Everyone is looking for the Digital Cameras so this obviously has brought the 35mm SLR film cameras down in price. I dont think you can go wrong with this camera. The lenses that can be purchased for the camera are also very economical and extremely easy to find. I'm an "old school" kind of a guy. This camera mixes the "old" 35mm film camera technology with the newer micro chip and auto focus technology very nicely. Nikon did a great job mixing the two. If you like the 35mm SLR film cameras you will not be disappointed with this great little camera.

  High end and Affordable

Film Cameria are not a thing of the past. I repeat, not a thing of the past. Most would feel that it is with all the digitial camerias on the market. The Nikon N65 is an outstand example great 35mm film camera still a live a kicking. It incorporates most of the newest technologies that Nikon has developed in there labs for the past few years. And now there newer cameras are out fitted with these new technologies. The dynamic auto focus for one. Secondly the matrix metering make this camera very easy to use in complete auto mode while it still has the ability to shoot in manual modes which is the tricky bit. Just a bit. This is mainly due to the confusing part of changing the aperture while in manual mode. Most people will be used to using the lens, however, now the aperture and shutter speed buttons are used instead. Countless time you will find yourself reaching for the lens then remembering you have to use the buttons. But it will become faster once you get used to it over time unless this is your first and only cameria. Then this could make all other cameras seem a bit confussing to you. This camera gives you the feeling that the machines have taken over due to the cameria doing most of the work .Some of the best features range from aperture priority, shutter priority, exposure bracketing. It alsouses the Nikon ML-L3 remote control shutter release option. You don't see that deature to often This make makes the cameria extremely reliably and it takes great beatiful crisp clean pictures. But one on the draw backs is that the camera seem to take a long time to focus on each shoot, but the final shoot is over all worth it. Not the best camera for a last second picture.

Overall its a very lightweight and easy to carry cameria, easy to use and affordable camera that takes a high quaility pictures. A few options are confusing due to them not following stard cameria layout. Nocticeable slow focuse but over all a very good Cameria.

Value. Price. Prints, remember them. Built in Flash

Nikon SLR bodies are hard to beat because of the Nikon lens line. If you get the flash in the body you are saving money big time. Film makes prints happen far more often than digital. This is a simple fact of life. I LOVE PRINTS, however with digital it is far to easy just to shoot and post to the computer, or send off a file or two to the fam. and friends. Guess what, no prints. Major loss in my view. Hence my love for Film will always be there. You may not want as many film SLR's as I use, however I recommend having at least one or two to back up your digital and use with every picture taking moment you allow from your digital. When you get the PRINTS back, come thank me.

The camera I did not get.

I would love to comment on how I love the camera, but the person who put the camera on E-Bay never sent the camera. I won the bid on 2/24 and sent the money on 2/27. To date, I have not rec'd the camera. I did put in a dispute with e-bay but never heard from them. I e-mail the sellor and never heard back from her. Now I am out of a camera and $67.00. So I am writing to let everyone know the problem. Thanks

Bought this camera second hand from an Ebay auction. The seller took excellent care of it. It has been used several times and I am extremely pleased with the outcome! I haven't taken pictures in a very long time, I get crisp, sharp results with my negatives and they produce very dynamice photos. I am very pleased and would love to take the credit for this but I know it's that the camera was an excellent choice!

We wanted a film camera and it appeared to be in good condition despite that it was an used camera. The seller sent it in a complete package and it turned out to be in very good condition. We feel fortunate to have found it in the system.

Camera is in very good shape however the clarity of the prints was not what I expected. Not horrible just not as clear as I would like. It is possible the lens is not compatible with it but I would have to do further testing with other lenses. I bought it because I understood that Nikon was high quality in is clarity of prints but now I'm not sure if it's the camera or not. Won't give up. It may be, as I said, the lens may be the issue.

A good choice for an inexpensive automatic SLR
Review created: 10/02/08(updated 10/30/08)

This is an older autofocus and autoexposure film SLR that provides Nikon technology, quality and versatility at relatively low cost. The G series lens lacks an aperture ring and does not have a distance scale on the focus ring, but the camera displays the aperture and shutter speed selected by the computer. The camera's computer provides a wide range of exposure and focus modes which allow the ability to set aperture priority, shutter priority, and focus priority, etc. which allow manual override of the automatic settings. Of course the fully automatic mode will suffice for most cases. Nikon's autofocus lens line has evolved in recent years so care must be taken to ensure compatibility when selecting additional lenses.
