Nikon Coolpix S60 10.0 Megapixel

What a fun camera! Fits in your shirt pocket and has all kinds of fun capabilities! The LCD size is incredible - allows you to see what the picture or video will really look like when finished on the big screen or printed. The 5X zoom is much better than the standard 3X size for a pocket-sized camera. Both the picture and video quality is awesome. Very easy to use, and the layout of all the on-screen displays is great. An amazing camera for the price.

This was a present for my wife, who was infatuated with the diverse features the camera advertised to have. I have to admit that even I was anxious to see what the camera could do when I heard about it's capabilities; flip-screen view, touch-screen options, in-camera photo editing & writing, etc. But marketing ploys aside, there is a legitimate concern about what the camera can really do and how it compares to other digital cameras. Here is an objective look at the Nikon Coolpix S60, and what Ashton doesn't mention in the ad's.

The PRO'S:

The camera is just as fun as you've heard. MASSIVE screen which you can flip to view photos in another perspective (although it serves no practical purpose since the photo becomes smaller to accomodate the rotated view). You can add diverse fun-frames for any occasion, edit the photo in the camera (including photo zoom, photo crop), and even add extras to photos like mini hearts or thought bubbles, or write on the picture itself. Also, any changes you make to a photo, the camera will save the original and edited copy. The camera is fairly user-friendly (assuming you are vaguely familiar with other cameras), and the touch-screen is enough to keep you preoccupied for hours. The camera comes with a stylus that can attach to the wrist strap in case you don't want anyone's greasy fingers getting all over your screen, and the video camera records audio too. Along with it's (now) 5x zoom, the digital zoom is also surprisingly clear, and the resolution lag is near non-existent. Along with the facial highlight feature that helps provide a well-centered photo, the camera is very comprehensive.

So the camera is perfect, right? Well just before we get to happily ever after, there are some concerns that any practical digital camera consumer should take into mind before making such a hefty purchase.

The CON'S:

Although the camera is flip-sreen it's notorious for taking it's time, which can range from a brief moment to a few seconds. Sensitivity is also iffy, randomly changing the view itself on occasion, or refusing to change at all. The various options are simple enough to navigate through, but it is easy to get lost in all the different screens required to perform various tasks. Although I'm not an advocate for the usual track wheel design with other digital cameras, you'll want to keep your owner's manual handy for this one. The touch screen can also get a little moody on you. More often than not it will function without reservation, but on occasion it will confuse which direction you're navigating or glitch while transitioning from photo to photo. Probably the MOST CONCERNING down-side to the camera is the grain-ee view you get on the camera screen. Especially considering its retail price, one would anticipate a crystal clear shot of whatever your looking at, but the screen gives an unfortunate grain-like haze over everything you view pre-photo.

Concluding opinion:

If you're looking for a fun camera with a few options to dazzle your friends, then this is the camera for you. It's fun & it's entertaining, but in the realm of a cool toy you may be better off getting yourself an ipod touch or iphone. If you are one that is serious about performance from your digital camera, you may disappointed, but this is a reasonable compromise between practical application and flashy options. But be warned, the hefty price is mostly for the cool features.

This is one ofthe best camera for not only taking fantastic Pictures but, it also takes wonderfull motion pictures. Well over 1 1/2 hours with a 4 gig scan memory card. That in turn is easly uploaded to your Apple Mac . It transfers to you tube in a flash. Very easy learning curve. Camera takes about 2 days of shooting to try out all the options.... Fantastic for the internet..It's automatic with an apple Macbook wwireless. "It was never this easy to design web sites with films and photos until I found this camera and got away from windows." This camera is amaing !!!

Touch screen functions is fantastic. Easy to use. Zoom is better than standard 3x and 5x cameras. Would recommend product to a friend or loved one.

The camera is perfect, I don't find yet a problem, I decide to buy it because I have old Nikon and the brand work great

It was my first Nikon camera, I was
choosing other known brand touch screen
but comparing their specs & their prices
which I find almost the same considering
Nikon being a well known brand in
cameras, I decided to get one
(new & sealed) from ebay.
Its was touch screen allright with lot
of features & shoots well too but at my
dismay the images on the screen is really
poor in quality compare with the other
digital cameras I have. Its way far below my
expectations considering its features particularly
its price.
The only compliments I have with this camera
is its high capacity memory SD card which is
much cheaper compare to Xd cards.

This is an excellent camera! The pictures are super clear and it takes great videos. Its also a plus that this comes in different colors to match your style. Its very easy to handle and being able to crop and add things to pictures without having a computer around is a huge plus! I highly recommend this camera for anyone who loves to take pictures on the go.

Love the capabilities of the camera. I learn something new everyday. Pictures are great and the look is sleek and very compact. I feel it could be a little cheaper but it is still worth every dollar spent! Thumbs up!!!!!!

The camera was band new just as promised in the box with everything included. I have already started taking pictures with after having it only for a day and I love it!!! The pictures are so clear!

I bought Nikon Coolpix camera in order to go to a concert. My other camera made pictures so blurry, you couldn't hardly make out what the pictures were. My new Nikon Coolpix is wonderful!! The pictures are bright and not blurry. I even had my daughter do a cheer, while I took her picture. This is so I could see how good the camera was at capturing motion. Still, there was no blur. The picture turned out perfect. I would recommend the Nikon Coolpix to anyone looking for a good quality camera.

i like the new technology that comes with the camera. very innovative and new. i enjoy showing it off to my friends.

This camera is very easy to use, it gives great pictures even the ones you print at home. Battery life is also great.

TONS OF EXTRAS, LOVE THE TOUCH SCREEN AND EASY DELETE PICTURE! SUPER HIGH RESOLUTION. ALL CONTROLS ARE ON SCREEN SO THERE IS A LITTLE BIT OF A LEARNING CURVE VS. STANDARD CAMERAS. ONLY DOWN FALL IS ZOOM IS ALSO CONTROLLED ON SCREEN.

The camera is great. We are used to other models that charge while pluged into a USB port and this one doesn't. Other than that it is EXCELLENT.

First of all Nikon has a good reputation. My sister has one (S50) and my brother in law has two Nikon cameras (D80 & D300). My Pastor has one and my close friends have Nikon cameras too. People arround me have Nikon cameras and that just says it all. What I like about Nikon generally and about Nikon S60 specificly are Nikon produces good quality of pictures, very stylist, cool features, "Touch Screen", and very user friendly. I recommend you to buy Nikon camera that fits your personality. Good luck!

Full Touch screen. Excellent quality pictures. After I bought this one, I noticed that they also sell in black. Should have bought black instead of burgundy.

Awesome and easy to use. The touchscreen takes some getting used to and zooming in and out takes a little longer than with a manual zoom button but I still LOVE it!
