Nikon AF-S DX VR 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 IF-ED Lens

Times sure have changed. There's hardly a metal camera to be found and you can carry a bag full of equipment in one hand. The Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor is the latest lightweight from this heavyweight of the camera industry.

Plastic construction right down to its lens mount. This thing looks and feels like the label should say Fisher Price and not Nikon. However, looks can be deceiving as I soon found out.

After shooting with the 55-200 for a few weeks, I've come to appreciate what it can do. It's limited to use in good light as even VR can't change the laws of physics.

With sufficient light and good technique, the 55-200 is capable of very good performance. No, it's not as sharp and contrasty as the 70-200. It's also not going to survive the bad weather or a few solid knocks that professional use would expose it to.

Where the 55-200 excels is in its portability and above average performance. For travel or just walking around, it would be hard to beat this lens if it's used within its limits. I use mine on a D80 and have no problem getting excellent 13x19" prints.

I have to admit that I've gotten much more than my money's worth out of this lens.

Well made, light weight for a lense of this size. Produces sharp pictures. The Vibration reduction feature works very well and the auto focus is fast and accurate.

I was looking for a zoom lens for my Nikon D60. This lens isn't the best out there, but for the budget minded photographer, this lens fits the bill. Nice clean, crisp pictures. The AF is a bit slow to focus but it will do just fine in most situations. I use it mostly for my daughters soccer games. I would recommend this lens if you need a zoom lens, but don't want to spend a ton of money.

Excellent zoom lens for landscape photography. I just love it from the day i got it. But i kinda miss my other lens 18-55mm. I hate changing lenses between my shots. I would say if u have enough cash than go and buy 18-200mm lens which is the default lens of all the Nikon Pro Photographers. Otherwise if you are tight on budject like me than this is the best 55-200mm lens that money can buy.

Very nice sharp lens. The big feature is the compact size and light weight. There are better lenses such as the 18-200mm @ $500+ and the 70-200mm @ $1,700+ but both are much larger and heavier. I have all 3 of these lenses and use them all. The drawback of the 55-200mm is lack of large aperture meaning more depth of field than may be desired and higher ISO or slow shutter will be required in low light. But you get what you pay for, and what you are willing to carry. Definitely pay the little extra for the VR feature.

All in all, a great lens for the price.

This lens is great! This is all you need for great picture taking! If you looking for that lens to get you closer to the action or just closer to whatever you are taking a picture or this is it! Highly recommend making sure you get the VR lens.

I bought the lens to get better shots at my sons soccer games. It works wonderfully. I need to get used to it a little more but the lens seems to work perfectly.

You simply can not find a better quality lens for the money. The pictures are crisp, with beautiful color tone. The autofocus is fairly quick and the vibration resistance technology works beautifully.

This lens takes over where the OEM supplied 18x55 lens quites. Works very well brings object up close with great definition. She loves it.

Decided to buy a Nikon D90 body instead of the lens kit to get higher quailty photos for less money. I bought this along with the nikon 18-55mm vr for a low price set up - this is less money than the standard kit.

The product is great. Easy to hook up to my existing digital camera. Offered on ebay for less than any other vendor was selling it for. I wanted to have more photo options and this improved my camera effectiveness many times over.

Quite pleased with my new Nikon camera lens. I was looking for a lens that I could use for sports. If you can't afford the 18mm-200mm this is the next best thing.

I love this lens compare to other cheaper lens. Very fast and quite auto focus. Compact in size to other lenses I bought in the past. The VR feature work flawless, a very nice option when your in a moving car ,train and strong winds this feather works great.

this is one of the best things that I have ordered from ebay. The Nikon brand already has a good reputation for quality and this definitely falls into that category. The picture quality of both the camera and the lens are just unbelievable. It is very user friendly and I am actually teaching my 8 year old how to take pictures with it and he is having a blast.

This lense is fantastic, and if you purchased your Nikon with the 18-55mm VR lens, this is the PERFECT companion to it. I purchased this lens specifically for shooting my son's soccer games and I must say that I'm impressed, not only with the quality and ease of use, but by the price as well. If you're not familiar with Nikon's VR (Vibration Reduction) system, let me be the first to tell you that if you're considering purchasing Nikon's 55-200mm (which is somewhat cheaper) without the VR: DON'T DO IT. Not that it's not a fantastic lens itself, but the VR kills motion blur more than significantly. You'll be very pleased you decided to shell out a little more. While switching out lenses may be an inconvenience, adding this lense to your quiver won't break your bank... considering that the DX VR 18-200mm lens that spans both lenses runs close to $900.00.

I use this lens so much! I love the quality of this lens and the auto focus works good. Very nice!! I just started using it of course, but I have snapped ALOT of pics with it! Wonderful lens!

A really excellent lense! It's very sharp and costs a lot less than other tele (like 70-300mm VR - for a fraction of size nad weight). I totally recommend it!!!
