Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED Lens

Bought the lens just before our family vacation to Nova Scotia. Made some beautiful wide angle views of the shoreline-sea! Also made some great tight architectural shots where I captured entire historic buildings and the "concept" of the structures without having to back away very far.

The light weight lens was easily carried in a small backpack. At the 12mm - 15mm end there is some barrel distortion, but not a factor unless many straight lines are in your composition. Wide sunrise/sunsets and other landscape images are beautiful no matter what level zoom I used!

I am extremely happy with the function, the price, and Nikon quality!

I have had this lens only for less than a week, but I aleady fell in love with it and it becomes the all-time lens on my D70 which has the 1.5X crop factor. The sharpness and color saturation is no pars with any other brand zoom lens in this focal range. Although the maximum aperture is only 4, but Nikon has set this lens in its professional line. The only thing I am complaining is it distortion at 12mm side, which is also a fun factor at same time. Starting from 18mm to 24mm, no obivous distortion can be observed.

Finally, I think the price is a little higher than expected.

Stop down for superb sharpest and handling! This would be the best wide angle lens you can get for your Nikon dSLR. At 12mm wide, it is very usable with little distortion, unlike other brands where at their widest, you get lots of barrel distortion. It is also very light and compact to carry around. If you are planning to get a cir polarizing filter, don't stack it on top of another filter. Vignetting occurs as with all other wide angle lenses - just thought you should know if you already didn't!

I bought the Nikon 12-24mm DX F/4G IF-ED Lens three months ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this Pro Lens. It takes sharp_sharp_sharp pictures and it's match with my Nikon D1X. I'd recommend this Pro Lens if you want the best for Nikon DLSR camera, and Ebay is the right place to get it from. You may ask why? Because it's fun and safe money :)

This lens is an exceptionally useful lens and may well serve as the standard lens for a quick shot with guaranteed great results. The lens I bought was used by a professional and there was little evidence of wear after shooting scenes from some of the most picturesque spots in the world. I saw the shots before receiving the camera and was a little concerned about the wear factor. There was little evidence of use attesting to durability record of this brand long respected for fine optics. Nikon lenses remain the best with the help of the best focusing systems. This particular lens ranks with the best as the go-to pick one to the top three lenses needed for most situations. The only problem is the speed which I solve with a good tripod. Fast lenses are a dream for most Ebay shoppers.

If you need, or enjoy, wide angle lenses and own a Nikon this is an excellent lens to consider. I use the lens on my Nikon D300 and have found it to produce consistently excellent results. The images taken are sharp with a minimum of distortion. Of course, all wide angles such as this will have some distortion, especially at the 12mm end of the range. I haven't used the Sigma equivalent so I can't comment on that lens. However, I use DXO Optics Pro V5 to open and process my NEF photos and that software includes specific correction factors for the D300 coupled with the 12-24 Nikon lens to render some pretty outstanding photos. If you can afford to purchase this lens new, or find a deal on an excellent condition used one (as I did) then don't think twice or hesitate. Just purchase the lens and enjoy it.

This is a great lens. A must have if you love wide angle shots as I do. I was really impressed that they packed so much into such a small and light package.

It is very mint. Good as the seller described. I like it. I decided to buy it because I like it. But I feel afraid when the seller writes that this item no return.

I like it because of the price and is what I need. I got a use lens because new are very expensive. The description that the seller give of the lens was accurate and I was glad, however even thou the lens has a good price still a little expensive for a used one other wise I'm happy with it.

I really like it. It's a very good wide angle, only little distortion, very quiet and fast focusing, ideal for a digital camera. Amazing pictures.

Got this just before a photography trip to the Maine coast. My first true, pro-level super-wide, I immediately fell in love with the lens. It's tack sharp and just a whole new view of the world. I waffled between this and the very-well-reviewed Nikon 14-24 2.8 that's considerably more money. Actually, if the 14-24 was a 12-24, I probably would have bought that, even if more money 'cause I will probably upgrade to an FX sensor at some point. But I didn't want to lose the extra 2mm. Sounds tiny, but it makes a difference. On my recent trip, there were plenty of times I was shooting right at the 12mm setting.

The ONLY thing I wish was that this lens was a 2.8 instead of a 4. But I'd buy this lens all over again in a heartbeat.

I was suprise when fisrt time I used this lens the picture result was good as I effected I love this lens and i will used this for wedding photography and any moment for wide angle.

Acquired the lens today after winning the auction; can't be much happier when I started shooting with it. Lens was as per description, no trouble with the deal and perfectly fits the item that I have been looking for...

Nikon has introduced a replacement lens 10-24mm DX AF-S F/3.5-4.5G ED. It is slightly wider and cheaper at introduction (~$800 vs $1100 for 12-24mm). The built quality is somewhat inferior (according to many reviews) and it does not have fixed aperture. So if you find one cheap - get the new one.

On the other hand this new lens creates a second hand market for the good old one! With cashback I was able to get used (but in great shape!) lens for under $600. No way I could get a 10-24mm lens for that price! If you can - go for the new model ( (10-24mm), the extra 2mm wide open are sometimes very important - additional 10 degrees of view (109 vs 99).

The above only applies to entry-level Nikons - D40, D40x, D60, D5000. These cameras don't have built-in AF motor. If you own D90 and higher - don't bother with Nikon. Go for Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 PRO DX which is wide, quiality made, fast fixed aperture and can be found for $600 new!

A quick round of shooting and comparisons to other lenses (in PhotoShop, at 200%) finds that the lens is a little soft at 12mm, f/4 - but is fully sharp by f5.6-8. It's as good as any other Nikon lens from there up, with best resolution achieved at f/5.6 to f/11. In comparisons at 100%, it is difficult to see any problems with this lens at any focal length or aperture. It has great acuity and contrast. Focus is fast and silent. A Hoyo Pro Digital UV filter or polarizer(5mm thick ring) does not pinch the corners of the image. However, when stacked, there is visible vignetting in the extreme corners. The build quality is in line with Nikon mid-priced lenses. I have seen numerous complaints about this... the "plasticky" feel, and that a lens of this price should be up to "pro" standards of build quality. I disagree. The new materials and construction are solid, work well, and cut lens weight. The last point is important to me. The lighter I can make my bag, the better. And the heavier, mostly metal lenses break just as easily. With this lens, we pay for the technology and the glass that went into producing a top-notch lens. Chromatic abberations are mentioned in some reviews, with the Nikon 12-24mm winning out against its off-brand rivals. Shooting with a D300, CA is automatically corrected in-camera, so this trait of all wide angles is not an issue. All-in-all a great addition to the kit. Get past the price, enjoy the quality, and make killer photographs with it.

I purchased the Nikon lense for a particular purpose, to photograph residential houses both inside & out from a tight distance. It does a great job with a D-SLR. The quality of a prime Nikon lens is well known & this lens has been well received by many. I will also use it for landscape photography. I don't have any dislikes of the lens. It performs extremely well, is sharp & quick to focus.
