Nikon AF Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6D Lens

I got this lens expecting it would be adequate for what I was using it for. I already have a DX lens that falls within this range, but this is for full-framed sensors and film. In other words, when DX is phased out, this will still be of use. It will probably be my primary lens considering it covers a lot of bases; if you have a D300 or another higher-end Nikon that is made for speed and capturing action, this lens will be a good budget buy. The drawbacks are a few, but mostly due to it being old technology: it is a bit noisy (doesn't have that silent wave motor), it is a bit heavy even though it is made of plastic, the zoom is not as smooth as I would like. These aren't really complaints, but concerns if you were to get one. For now, I am satisfied; one day when I have a stash of money I will likely upgrade, but for now, this lens works. If you're a hobbyist, this would be great for you to get instead of spending upwards of $500 on stuff you'd probably not need.

I Love this lens! It's huge and quite a handful. Especially on a Nikon N90S! I took this on vacation, along with other lenses, and I used this one the most. It performed the best 50mm-100mm and I wasn't disappointed. Even when I took pics at 24mm it turned out great. If you can find one. Check them out here on eBay. You can alway find a bargain. Don't forget to ask questions about the lens like: is the element clear? Is there fungus? Chips on the outer element? Are the lenses clear and not fogged up, etc. Ask questions about any potential item that you are curious. It's better to be safe than sorry. Enjoy~

A very popular zoom with a wide and useful range of focal lengths. The front element is quite big and the lens flares easily. Flare and ghosting can ruin the image under some situations. Barrel distortion is obvious at the short end, though. Stop down to f/8-f/11 for best results.

It is very versatile lens for general use and yet inexpensive. Is not VR type yet, but for me taking all this out from photographer is no fun. Is like racing car with automatic transmission for me.

I recently bought another one of these lenses to get a little more reach than my 18-70 zoom without having to change to a tele-zoom. This is a great walkabout lens, with enough range to cover situations that might occur at an event or just wandering around town.

Some people have maligned this lens for being a little less than perfectly sharp. But i find it can take quite sharp images if you keep it stopped down to f8 or f11. It has nice crisp color saturation and good contrast. On the down side it loses some sharpness wide open, so it's better at daytime action than lurking around in low light

This lens is not exactly a lightweight, but it balances nicely on my D80 with a nice heft. The autofocus is fast and the manual focus is only about 75 degrees from infinity down to 18 inches on the close end. The large zoom ring is a quarter turn from 24 out to 120mm, making framing quick and easy. Overall this is a easy lens to use for getting a quick shot.

I was worried about flare with such a large 72mm front glass so I bought a rubber lens hood, figuring it might be good bumper protection too. On a DX body the only time I have seen any vignetting is with the zoom under 30mm and the hood fully extended. Since this is a full frame lens the field of view on a DX body is reduced several degrees, so you can leave the hood extended more. Even without the hood flare isn't a problem unless you've got the sun in front of you.

This is a good lens to take if you only want to carry one. At under $200 on eBay it's a good deal on a budget too.

The lens is in very good condition. I knew the lens made in Japan. So, It will be better than the lens made in China or Thailand. I had taken some picture to test, and I got pictures very nice.

I bought this lens in very good conditions about a month ago. The main reasons that I bought it are because of relatively good reviews and its very useful range of 24-120mm.

Immediately, I was impressed with its built quality. It feels solid in my hands. With the large HB-11 hood on, I don't see ghosting when shooting directly facing the sun. At 24mm, however, I do see significant distortion that is always been mentioned in different reviews.

Overall, with very useful zoom range, it can be a very good all around lens for you when travelling.
