      Great Lens!

I rate this lens 5 out of 5. I found the lens to be very diversible, I bought the lens to photograph an old hotel in Los Angeles, California. My 28mm would have worked if I was shooting a film camera, but shooting digital, I needed a lens that would give me that extra wide angle. The 18mm worked just fine. Any Pro out there will tell you that the 18-55mm is the most used lens in the business.

      The Perfect Inexpensive Kit Lens

This lens is great for people who want to be able to take wider pictures indoors or do basic landscapes. It's not a $1000 super-wide, no, but it does a good job. You get a little bit of zoom range, too, so you can compose your shots easily. I get consistently sharp results, and that's the really important part.

This lens is right in the middle between the extra-wide and telephoto. The images were always clear, and I never had any complaints.

G series lens is good for the money

I bought a D1 on ebay in December and need lenses. I have borrowed a couple lenses from a friend. A sigma 70-200 and an older Nikon AF 80-150 or so. I really liked the Nikon much more than the Sigma (hate the zoom action on the Sigma), so I was looking for Nikon lenses. I do not have much money so I decided on the G series lenses.

I just took a number of interior shots with the 18-55. I like the lens. I of course wished I had a wider lens in the small rooms, but it was adequate. Good picture, I didn't feel like I needed the manual f-stop setting at all with the D1, which is what I was worried about concerning the G series.

It's a good lens for the money. I will buy a G series 55-200 soon because I like the G series so much.
