NIKE SUMO2 DRIVER Review created: 04/03/07(updated 04/06/07) 18 of 23 people found this review helpful.
The idea of a square head, engineering and high MOI are good. But does it perform. Got to the first Tee and by the time it was my turn to tee off, the club (Regular, Diamana Graphite Shaft) generated so much attention that it was at the back of the line being fondled and ooed and ahhhed. Had to wrestle the club away from an 85 year old man. Finally teed up and all was hush knowing I had better hit this driver well or else listen to 20 guys yell and heckle. Fortunately, the club struck the ball well and landed in the middle of the fairway, but not as long as my Callaway 460x. Unfortunately, the guys at the end of the line were complaining about the noise. Then I heard a voice coming over the clubhouse speaker....."Bill, Keep The Noise Down". The noise was so distracting thru 12 holes that I had to use cigarette buts in my ear to concentrate. I felt like I was playing softball all day long. Bottom line is...... Try out several demos before you buy....you still have to hit the ball squarely on the clubface and hearing the sound of a well struck ball is great feedback. The Sumo2 is forgiving on heel and toe hits, but lacks distance. After a 18 holes and a couple of aspirins for my headache, I sold the club and stayed with my trusty Callaway 460 x. I love this club, it is the Nike Sasquatch Sumo 2, square head 5300. I did quite a bit of research before I bought it, I even went and tried it out, I tried a few, this one, the Taylor Made r7, the Callaway Big Bertha, and the Cleveland Hi-Bore. I don't hit the ball real long, all of my friends do, this club has added 15 to 20 yards to my drive, and the best part, is that I use to have a BIG BANANA slice to the right, so bad that my friends said that my ball would make a u-turn and start coming back to me. Guess what, not any more! This driver goes longer, and straighter than any other driver I have ever hit, the last 2 rounds I have played since getting it, I have yet to miss a fairway, i'm not talking just off the fairway in the rough, I'm talking 5 yards one way or the other of the middle of the fairway. It's just a awesome club, if there is anything negitive to say, is that it is loud, you have never heard a club sound like this! But, I use that to my advantage, I love hearing that sound and then watching it fly long and straight down the middle of the fairway. The low handycapers don't care for this club, especially since I have started winning some skins from them! I recommend this club very highly!
