Long Distance Accuracy With Short Iron Feel

For years I have had problems even nearing the green from beyond the 150 yard marker. Long irons seemed impossible to master, hybrids were a total mystery and a half shot with a conventional 3 or 5 wood lead to disaster after disaster. I had finally resolved myself to laying up and settling for bogey or if I was lucky, a rare par. Relegating me to the ranks of a "C" or even "D" golfer.
One day while searching for yet another miracle club to solve the looming problem of the long distance approach, I picked up a Nike Ignite 7 wood on display at my local golf retailer. I swung it a few times and was impressed by the feel as it made its way toward the ball perched on the practice tee. It`s hard to tell how the ball would have traveled on the course since the net caught the ball before I finished my follow through, but the feel was enough to convince me to give this strange club a try on the links, fully expecting to retire yet another gimmick club to the back of my closet.
I was wrong about this new club. No miracle happened and my game didn't suddenly spring into the ranks of the PGA's best. But what did happen lead to an improvement in my game that I wasn't expecting.
During my next round, while facing another approach from about 190 yards on a par five that others considered rather easy, I pulled the new edition to my bag and focused on a shot that had frustrated me many times before. I took my stance and noticed how the 7 wood felt quite comfortable in my hands. I could have sworn that I was holding my beloved 8 iron. The club moved effortlessly through my backswing and cut through the air with surprising ease as it made its way toward impact, then gave a satisfying 'ding' as the ball was sent on its way to who knows where. As my follow through lifted my head toward the target, I caught the sight of my ball sailing through the air as if hit by a pro. The ball hit the fairway a few yards from the front of the green and came to a stop just about twenty feet from the pin. I wish I could say I sank a miracle putt for birdie but I did two putt my way to the most satisfying par I can remember accompanied by "Good par." comments from my companions.
I was right about one thing. There is another club resting in the back of my closet, my old nemesis, the 3 iron. And within a week it was joined by another golf enemy of mine, the 4 iron, having been replaced by a Nike Ignite 9 wood.
And about the improvement I wasn't expecting? Filling the distance gap in my game with clubs that were comfortable and performed so well gave me a confidence that allowed me to approach every golf shot with a sense of adventure rather than a sense of dread. As hokey as it sounds, these two Nike Ignite woods did more for my game than all of the video lessons and goofy inventions I had ever used.
These days, I love hear comments like "How do you expect to play golf with that little bitty wood?" when I tee up with my 7 wood on a short par 4 because they are usually followed by comments like "Where did you get that thing?".
I have replaced the 3 and 5 woods in my bag with a Nike Ignite 4 wood and am considering replacing my old Taylor Made driver with Nike's Ignite driver. The old driver is reliable and comfortable but if I get the results with the Ignite driver that I have with the other Ignite woods it will be an early retirement for the old Taylor Made.
Thanks Nike, for the Ignite woods and giving me back my favorite game.
