Nike Forged Blades - GREAT Irons

These clubs are great clubs for a lower handicap golfer & some higher handicaps like them just as well. If you have ever owned or hit a set of Ben Hogan blades that you liked then you will definitely like these as Tom Stites is the designer of these NIKE blades & was also Hogans designer for many years until he signed exclusively with NIKE.

These irons have a classic look and feel to them just as the Hogans do. If you are considering switching from a set of cavity back irons to a set of forged blades just consider that a true blade is not as forgiving on off-center shots as a cavity back iron, although they are not bad either. When hit pure I have found these NIKE blades to be longer than my PING i3 "Blades", if you want to call the pings a blade. The NIKE blades are small irons, no offset and almost no bounce, but if you hit it pure there is no better feel in my opinion and they offer a world of difference in ball control and shot shaping.

One of the main differences golfers will realize is that the NIKE blades have more loft on the irons, roughly 2-3 degrees more in each club throughout the set than most any other brand, which will equate to a slight loss in distance for most players. If that is an issue there is always the option I took of adjusting the loft in a proper loft & lie machine to your desired loft. If you choose this route make SURE the person adjusting your clubs is experienced in working with forged irons as they are more sensitive to manipulation.

All in all, This is a first rate forged iron, great feel, great control and if forged blades is what you are looking for then there are no "cons" to owning a set of these!

Please vote YES below if you found this review helpful. Thanks!

I'm a high handicapper who switched to Nike Blades and have been thankful. Hitting them is like taking a pro lesson. You learn instantly where you're making contact, and by the 3rd hole I had changed my setup and was hitting consistent high, straight, and long shots.

I gave up on Callaways, Titleists, and Adams irons for these, and I'd never go back.

They feel like butter when you hit them square, and they're the best looking irons in the world.

This is one of the best feeling blades I have ever hit. This club is made for low handicaps but is not a bad play for a 14 handicap or lower. Any forged set on the market is going to have the "scary small" head size. Once you hit a forged club you will never want to go back to a cast or game improvement club. A forged club will feel and respond different. It is hard to explain feel but the response of your golf ball is not. I have played a few sets over the years. The most recent sets have been the Nike SS4d irons and blue dot Ping i3. I use Titleist Pro V or Nike Platinum balls. On a typical 155 yard shot with an easy 8 iron, the Ping i3 and Nike SS4d would land and release about 10 to 15 feet. The Nike blade would land, stop, or drop within 3 feet of impact. That is why many people tell you that using forged clubs is like "throwing darts at the pin."

If you are looking at making the switch to a players club I would recommend you get a forged cavity back blade. The best forged cavity back blades are made by Mizuno. After playing with them for awhile make the switch to your favorite set of blades. If you are dead set on jumping in with both feet the Nike Forged Blades are not a bad choice. They seem to be more forgiving and easier to hit than most muscle back blades. The loft is a little weak but that is an easy adjustment made by most professional golf pro shops. You need to remember that like most blades the key is hitting the sweet spot effectively and consistently. Blades are a great learning tool because they give you immediate feedback on all off center hits.

I would have to say that Nike continues to impress me. They have gotten better with age and have caught up quickly with the other golf lines.

So I looked at these clubs a year ago when I was in the market for a new set. I chickened out because of both the price and the reviews from all the scratch golfers condemning these sticks. Im at 17 hdcp and needed some help. I got a set of Nickent 3DX hybrid irons because I thought the game improvement cavity backs would be my best bet. Boy was I wrong. They helped some bad shots out, but its impossible to know what your doing wrong because of the corrective nature of the clubs. I traded them in and got the nike blades I always wanted. Love em. Theyre butter smooth on solid hits, and you can feel what you did wrong on mishits. This has helped me tremendously in improving my game. I would recommend these clubs to anyone with a desire to improve their game.

  Awesome Irons...

I usually shoot around 100 - 102 so I'm no expert by any means.
These clubs are advertised as being short because of the loft but I found that I am able to strike the ball more cleanly and with more feel so my ball actually goes much higher and further. I am confident that these clubs will shave off at least 5 strokes and because the scoring irons are so solid I'd wouldn't be surprised if my score falls to the low 90s. I bought these irons used, played with then 2-3 times, then re-gripped them, and WOW... huge difference. These clubs have so much feel I'm kicking myself I didn't buy them sooner.

Like - These are more foregiving then I had thought for a blade. You can work the ball easy and they line up better then my Ping ISI and I 3+ blade. These have two degree more loft then some other heads, but it seems to help in accuracy. Some will lose distance up to a club, but put it on the green and who cares, the game is about a score and having fun.

Love - I was not sure if I could play a true blade with a 8.5 handicap, but I shot a 39 on the first 9 holes played with them. I am much tighter with my patterns with these then the Ping I 3+ Blades because they line up better to me then the offset of my Pings. You need to get fit to your swing and height so you also can take advantage on the way they line up. Went to a course that my previous best was 86 on and shot a 79 and a 76 this week. I have had these Nike blades for two weeks now. I hope I continue to hit them this well for a long time.

Dislike - As with any blade you have a small head and a small sweet spot and you will feel the feed back and the ball will be effected more then a cavity back but not as bad as I had thought with these when you get a little fat or hit toward the toe. The graphite shafts look great and but one has broken already right at the hosel yesterday. Will probably reshaft tomorrow with steel in the 9 iron to see how it feels.

Why I decided to buy these - I had a demo day at my club about a month ago and hit everything Ping and Nike had. The first hit I just really liked the Nike blade. It felt great on the seven or eight balls I hit with the six iron. Well for my 50th birthday I just had to try a set and at $300 off ebay I thought I could get close to my money back if I could not score with these as well as my Ping ISI. I thought it might be a joke buying these but so far I am very pleased. Even the Nike Rep. said "I had to have a set of these but they stay in my closet". I took that to be a nice (these are hard to hit) statement. My playing buddies are no longer saying I want to play with you as soon as you get them. Like they thought I would be easy money.

I like them, they look great, they are different from the cavity backs that I usually use, and the game of golf is really fun right now they way I am hitting them. I have stopped the pull hooks and having to aim right due to the offset and possible the wrong lenght and lie of the other clubs.

If you get a chance, demo a Nike Blade and see how it feels to you. I was very surprised. Remember you have a small head and sweet spot to hit the ball on, but It has been a pleasant change for me.

These want be for high handicappers but even mid cappers should demo the blades just to see how they feel, and see where they are on a repeatable swing.

I've always liked the way forged blades feel, and thats all I've ever played. I first saw the Nike forged blades in a friends bag. I hit a couple of shots and thought they were great. However, the price tag was not so great, $1000. Thats why I jumped at the chance to buy a set from ebay. The set was in great condition and one quarter the price. This will probably be the last set I buy. I've learned the only diffrence between new and used, is the price you pay.

These nike blades are a great all around blade club. They are a club that are are really workable. You can work both draws and fades great. And you are able to to hit high and low.Great feel, after you hit you can really tell where its going. But you need to a have a good hard swing to use these. Made for a 0-7 handiecap. There just a great feel of about them. I went from a Titlest 990 to these and found that there just a more workable irons. so if your looking for a set that your want to move the ball more, these are for you

Straigtest clubs I have ever hit, like throwing darts with these irons. Nice sound and feel at impact, not buttery soft as Mizuno's, but feels good. Thought I would lose some distance since lofts are weak compared to most sets, but that wasn't the case. Highly recommended!

  NIKE FORGED BLADES
Review created: 02/04/07(updated 09/23/07)
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was playing with Callaway X-16's irons which I love. However, I wanted something alittle more accurate. Last summer I borrowed a set of blades and I loved them. The Nikes are beautifully crafted clubs. There is no question that you need to be a stronger player to use them. You can't have good and bad days with these irons. They are fractionally shorter than the callaways and as such on my first outing I topped most of my shots. In addition, there is very little off-set, so a slightly different decent angle is required. The following weekend, I hit two fairways and shot 73, including five birdies in six holes. Unfortunately I haven't quite lived up to those lofty heights since.

Conclusion- PROS:
When hit right, very consistent length and deadly accuracy
Stunningly built

CONS:
Little forgiveness. (as far as I'm concerned, I look at these clubs as training aids. They'll make me hit the ball correctly!)

There's no better "feeling" club than a set of forged golf clubs. Some of the tour pros will have an endorsement name on their bag but will have a set of forged Mizunos or Nike clubs in the bag. Investment cast clubs are forgiving but for a club that lets you know when you are hitting the ball solidly, Nike forged blades are the ticket.

They are soft forged irons and the feeling of impact is more touching a ball rather than strike it. I love such a feeling with enough distance and accuracy.

A solid club - Even for high handicappers
Review created: 09/27/09

I am a solid 12 handicap golfer. I didn't expect to be able to really play with these irons without a lot of practice. I am amazingly able to hit the ball as well as I did with my Mizuno MP 20s. There is about a 1-2 club difference in distance.

had these irons before traded them in worst mistake i ever made. These irons are a little harder to hit than a cavity back iron but you can shape your shots with these once you get used to them, also more distance on true hits.

Nike Forged Blades Past and Present
Review created: 03/06/09
by:

As with the purchase of any clubs, you tend to go with what is aesthetically pleasing to the eye at address, and then you hope like hell it performs well. Nike Forged Blades, whether the brand new Victory Reds or the model prior to that, will definitely pass the first test. They are without a doubt, one of the best looking set of forged irons on the market. Performance, on the other hand, comes down to a number of variables that are often hard to define. What works for one golfer may not necessarily work for another. Having previously played with the Hogan Apex forged iron, I was looking for a blade with a softer metal that wouldn't sacrifice distance or workability. I didn't find this with my recent purchase of Nike blades. Unfortunately for me, the previous owner had gotten about all the use those clubs had in them. Not only were they dull looking, they didn't feel right. So, I promptly sold them at a loss, and kept playing with the Hogans. I was about to label the Nike blades overrated until I had the recent opportunity to hit the Victory Reds with a lighter yet stiff shaft and fell in love with the clubs again! Lesson learned, play with what catches your eye, and hit with them until you develop a comfort level. Then, after trial and error, make a decision and stick with it.

The more important is the swing pattern
Review created: 02/10/09

This Nike Blade iron set is a very good product; however, it is not guarantee you to hit a ball well every time. The more important is the swing pattern; and this product might help you to have a better result, if you hit the ball with a right move. An excellent product might damage your score; when you trust this product more than yourself. An excellent golfer will have good score with a not bad product. You need to practice with this product anyway; it is a good one; and, it is a Nike product.

The golf clubs I purchased on eBay were better than I expected for such a cheap price. The description of the clubs said they were in mint condition and they lived up to their description and more. Some of the clubs looked like they were never hit before. I enjoyed the purchasing experience for the fact that I received an outstanding product and am using them now. It was an excellent experience and eBay is one of the first places I check when searching for items I want to purchase.
