Nike CPR is good but other hybrids are better

About me: I'm a mid- to high- handicap golfer and play 1-2 rounds a month.

I currently carry 2 hyrbids in my bag (2-iron and 3-iron Nickent Genex 3dx Ironwoods). I have owned and played both the Nike CPR ironwood type hybrid and the TaylorMade Rescue Mid.

Hybrid clubs have definitely helped my game. As advertised hybrids are generally easier to hit than long irons, get the ball in the air quickly, and fly higher and farther than the irons these clubs are intended to replace. They are versatile and can be hit from the tee, the fairway, the rough, out of fairway bunkers, and even used on chip shots from the fringe.

Performance: As far as hybrids go, I’m only luke warm on the Nike CPR. The clubhead design on the CPR is essentially an older design. For those of you who remember the original TaylorMade Rescue clubs (copper color scheme) before the introduction of the Rescue Mid, the Nike CPR has a very similar clubhead shape/ design. The Nike’s weight distribution (center of gravity) is not as low or as far back as most of its competition including the Taylor Rescue Mid, Nickent Genex 3dx, Callaway Heavenwood, Cleveland Halo, Cobra Baffler, and others.

Dislikes: One thing that did bother me about the Nike was its toe-up position/ lie angle. At address, the toe of the club really felt like it was pointing upward. The flex of the club during the swing would no doubt return the club to square at address, but I never got comfortable with the look at address. In comparison, the Rescue Mid I used to play and the Nickent that I currently play are both more level at address and give me a greater confidence in the club.

Bottomline: The Nike CPR is a better option than long irons, but there are better options among hybrids on the market today.

Seller is a golf pro and club was in mint condition. I have two other Nike CPR clubs and this one completes my set of substitutes for my long irons. I paid about 1/3rd of what I would normally pay for this club.

  Nike CPR2 Ironwood
Review created: 10/31/06

The Nike CPR2 ironwood is by far my favorite hybrid. I own and have played the Taylor Made Rescue Mid, Adams Idea A2 OS, Cobra Baffler, Callaway Heavenwood, Ping G5L and Tour Edge Bazooka. I like the Taylor Made Rescue Mid because it also is not offset but I prefer the ironwood because of the small head size and it is easy to hit even from tight lies. The ironwood is more iron than fairway wood and vice versa for the fairway hybrid. (Editorial note: It seems club manufacturers assume most if not all women prefer offset clubs due to lower swing speed so I must be an exception).

In contrast to an earlier reviewer who disliked this club at setup, I love the way it sets up. I first bought the 18 degree and have since bought the 21 and 24. I originally bought the CPR fairway hybrid and disliked the way it set up and really didn't hit it well. I sold it and bought the ironwood instead and it is my "go to" club. As advertised, it is great off the tee, fairway bunkers and in the rough.

Love this club. Replaced my 3 & 4 irons with this beauty. Took a short while to get the right swing feel, but once you do, it's terrificly easy to hit. I plan on adding a 30 degree sooner rather than later

  awesome iron replacement

The CPR is like cheating, long irons that hit like short irons. I have hit shots I would not even try with normal irons. They fly high stop quick easy to hit out of the rough. My only complaint is I didn't try these sooner.

A very easy-to-hit club -- by far the most forgiving of the several hybrids I have tried. Particularly good out of the rough.

  nike cpr2 21 hybrid
Review created: 07/08/06

I hit several hybrids at a golf show and at shops, and liked the nike cpr, despite the red head color. I owned the original Cobra Multi metal baffler 21 degrees, to replace my 3 iron 190-200 yards, but it had a DG 300 stiff shaft and that made the club very heavy. This has the UST Irod stiff graphite shaft and feels easier to swing, probably D2 vs, D4 of my old hybrid.

And when I started dating a red haired woman, I decided I didn't mind having a little red head in my golf bag, too. This club was brand new, wrapped, $73 to my door.

The only problem is that it goes too far. I saw something on the Golf Channel recently where they were talking about effective loft. I am a good iron player, which is why I wanted a hybrid instead of a seven wood, but I think I deloft it when I take a divot. This plays as long as my 19 degree 5 wood, more accurately, from any lie, side hill anything. I think I will buy a 24 degree as my 3 iron replacemnt and take the 5 wood out of my bag. I am a 9 handicap, due to my putting, and the occasional squirrely tee shot. These are real solid, the Irod shaft is consistent, and $75 brand new, shipped is unbeatable. Nike is pushing the Cpr3 and Slingshot hybrid, so these are cheap and very good.

If you like redheads....

I had the good fortune to hit my buddy's identical club so just finding one was the issue. I had bid on a few others and not won. The seller was very communicating, shipping was very fast. I just felt that the club had a few more nicks than described, however, that is all forgotten. I hit the club very well. I really need to use it more. It was in basically, brand new condition except for the nicks and I saved quite a bit of money.

I have purchased this Fairway Wood to try the Nike Brand. I wanted to have a Hybrid Club but not sure if this club is considered Hybrid. I have not fully research its specifications. In any case I like it and can hit with it fairly decent. The condition is still good and plan to keep the club, the price is right.

This is a great golf club. Very forgiving and much easier to hit than a 5 iron. I would recommend the club and the reseller for his fine service at a good price.

This club is the one I use for 165+ yards to the green. It hits very true. I very rarely mishit this club and use it mainly on par 5s. Couldn't be more pleased with the weight, swing and look of the club.

EASY TO HIT FOR THE BEGINNER!!!
Review created: 05/26/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I had the chance to try a Taylor Made Rescue Hybrid last season and was quite happy with the results, so when I came across the 24* Nike CPR I knew I had to at least try it. WOW!!! Very easy club to hit. Easy to swing and quite forgiving. Two important qualities for a club to have in anybodies game especially a novice such as my self.
I must say : If you ever get the chance to try one of these clubs, even if it is only for one hole in a short round, take it try it you'll like it!!

  Hybrids Rule!

After using a Nike CPR Hybrid 26* hybrid for several years, I finally found this great little 18* hybrid. What a great club for those windy days where you want to keep the ball low in flight. In my first round using the 18* hybrid I had several second shot opportunities to use the club and the results were awesome! I recommend this low iron replacement for anyone.

I just love this club! I have a couple of clubs in my bag that when I step up to the ball, I just have complete confidence that I can hit exactly the shot I want to hit... this is definitely one of those clubs! I have so much control of this club, I can draw it or fade it whenever I want to and the 18 degree loft is great for me, especially into the wind that we have here in Arizona.

The club arrived quickly in great shape. I love hitting it from fairway, off a tee or from the rough. The shorter shaft make it easier to hit. Golf Digest war when they gave it four stars. I have the 30 (150 yards), 26 (160 yards) and 22 (170 yards) degrees in my bag.
