This is a truly unique film about the world of carnivals, seances, and mentalism. It's a faithful adaptation of a great but forgotten novel by William Lindsay Gresham. Tyrone Power gives a terrific performance. Well worth watching!

) I originally bought this dvd to add to my Tyrone Power collection. I had never seen this movie before. It was great. Ty is playing a very dramatic character. He performs as a mind reader with his wife. He gets into a lot of trouble and goes on the run. He sends his wife off on the train sending her to the carnival telling her he will meet her there. But he doesn't show up until later. At the end he became a drunk that gets back with his wife at a carnival at the end. I had never seen him play a role like this before.
Anyone that is a Tyrone Power fan will love this picture.

A dark story told gruellingly well.Tyrone Power produced this movie himself. It's an upsetting film noir movie about a cruel carnie who does cruel things and gets his comeuppance in the end -- but bigtime. The black & white film is used masterfully, the carnival looks like a real one because they built a full size carnival for the set, Tyrone Power is gorgeous in this at the beginning but not at the end when he's... I'm not going to tell you. You'll have to see it for yourself. It's a very intense move to watch, no one would be bored at all, I highly recommend it.
