It's a short read but a very disturbing account of a young Jewish boy in 1944 that was placed in a concentration camp in Germany. It's hard to believe he lived through the ordeal. He lost the rest of his family. However, we need books like this true account so we will "never forget" what can happen when good people do nothing and let tryants take over. I would have given it an excellent rating but I didn't like the ending.

over hype for this book.I wanted to love it but didn't.

As a long time reader of WWII history and also literature in general, I felt this book was a child's tale. Not much depth or understanding of the workings of humanity at all but then perhaps that was the point. Certainly he was not a student of the deep secrets of life, mystical nature of the universe. The irony is the man who says he is most in touch with those ideas-no one believes and then he stays around and lets people deride him. Perhaps a classic case of Jewish guilt but clear that the people in the book were in some sort of denial of world history and the nature of humanity or evil. This is the case for many of the victims of the holocaust. Some simple reminders about self interest and the will to survive under the most extreme circumstances. However, I do admire all the the author has done with his fame and money, but I think this book is famous because he was one of the few to ever write about his life in the camps. I was expecting something much more erudite or moving. This is no Anne Frank's Diary. Much better resources out there for those interested including personal interviews with survivors I have known.

  Night by Elie Wiesel

I bought this book because I wanted to read about the horror of what was done to the Jewish people from the viewpoint of one who survived that horror. It is a captivating account of the unimagined desecration of human beings that should nave never ocurred. What I dislike about it is that such ever ocurred; that any human (if one could call an animal like Hitler a human) could even imagine, much less do the appaulling things which were done to these people.

the book itself is a masterpiece, a time capsule ,easy to read by teenagers, a great warning about society and its mistakes. The book itself was in great shape, and the sparks book added to it was great for my son researches.
My son needed it for school, the price including the shipping and the sparks notes added to it made my choice.

  Night by Elie Wiesel
Review created: 08/08/08

I have read this book many times and wanted this edition because of the cover. It is as openly painful as the book itself is. I wanted the Night Trilogy with the old covers and found them all on ebay. I found 2 of the books from the same seller who offered free shipping. Hcw cool is that!
I am an historian and have read many books, diaries and histories of the Holocaust but nothing comes close to Night. No one else comes close to Elie Wiesel either. He's a survivor and is dedicated to human rights for all living beings regardless of gender, sexual orientation, skin color etc. He reminds us that the worst can be imagined and can happen and did 63 yrs ago...
If you read nothing else by Wiesel, read Night.

I bought the book for a religion class next fall, but I figured I would go ahead and read it since I already had it. Frank and simple, yet full of emotion, "Night" absolutely commands your attention and demands empathy. He spoke with such conviction at my school when he came and the book was no different.

I bought Night because I had to read it for my AP English Class. It is a surprisingly good book. For how short it is, Wiesel captures the image of the Holocaust perfectly, making the reader feel connected to the story in 100 pages. The imagery and motifs that run throughout Night are amazing and can be connected to in many ways. I recommend this book and especially his his later book, Dawn. But this one needs to be read first.

  Good for those who care!
Review created: 11/03/06

Very well written book giving description of life seen through eyes of a father and son as they live through time of Nazi death camps. Elie Wiesel, author and son(as spoken in book), indirectly speaks of psychological stages mankind went through while experiencing cancentration camps. Book gives excellent view of human ego shallowed by confusing camp life lead by Nazi germans ending in accemptance of death. Much more to be explained, yet only for you to see if purchsed! I baught it because of the recomendation given by a preist who did intense research on these death camps and saints who rose from them.

I was/am interested in learning about the Holocaust (and WWII). I saw Elie Wisel on Oprah and wanted to read his book(s). I am glad I bought it, read it in one evening. It touched me, enhanced my appreciation for the good things in life, and I learned human beings are possible of much worse than I like to think about. It's important to think about it though. I recommend this book. It's also a story of unbelievable strength and perseverance.

Perfect title for the story line.

A book that should speak directly to the moral heart of each reader. The story is so interesting that it's almost impossible to put down. There are many things to learn about the Holocaust in this book - things that the human race should never forget. I am glad that E. Wiesel was able to get beyond the horror of the event and tell his story that it might encourage other people through various types of hardships, even when getting through the hardship seems impossible. This story is a true example of taking the worst imaginable and turing it into something good.
