Nikent 3DX Utility Fairway - 5 Wood

After playing and practicing with this club (a 19 degree version), I feel that it provides a great option for players who use hybrids instead of long irons near the top of their set. I currently use a hybrid club in place of both my 3-iron and 4-iron, and the size of the 3DX Utility (as opposed to the IronWood) makes for a seamless transition between my 3-wood and my 23 degree hybrid (Cobra Baffler) from an appearance standpoint. The head of the club is a bit smaller than a traditional fairway wood (much like wood-based hybrids) but its sole still covers enough real estate to be appealing to fans of fairway woods and those who fear smaller wood-based hybrids.
As far as performance goes, the club does a good job of helping me fill the distance gap between my 23 degree hybrid and my 15 degree 3-wood, which is really all I ask it to do. It is capable of giving me extra yards if I need it to, but I do not buy a 5-wood with major distance gains in mind. I buy a 5-wood to fill distance gaps in my set, and this club accomplishes this by providing me with consistent distance and direction with all of my swings (the good ones anyway). The club is pretty forgiving in terms of heel/toe hits (reasonable ones anyway), and I think that it feels good through impact. [Note: Some of the feel is probably attributed to the shaft and in mine it is a Harrison and not a stock shaft.] It is also a nice option for chipping around the green. After letting a few people try this club, I have received comments similar to my previous ones from most of my player partners. Selection of this club really comes down to personal issues, so just try one in a store and then buy one online for less (assuming the cost of adjusting it to your fitted specs plus the product price actually leads to savings). If the club you are replacing is less than 5-7 years old and you do not have a repeatable swing, save your money for lessons and custom fitting because no club provides absolution from flawed mechanics (it cost me some serious money to learn that).
In short, I have found the 3DX Utility makes for an aesthetically pleasing transition from my 3-wood to my 4-hybrid, provides consistent distance and direction when my swing warrants it, and adds an extra short game tool to my bag. I would certainly buy it again and recommend it to provide consistent performance for players with reasonably repeatable swings.
