NEWjACKSwing--Jack Jones
Finding Jack Jones on CDs is not very easy in this country, so we were happy to find this collection. By this time, his hair has turned to that snow-white look, but the voice is still strong and expressive. The 'swing" in the title should suggest that most of these songs have an upbeat feel, including perhaps the most famous from this collection--Love Boat Theme. That's Jack's voice we recall from the TV series, but this arrangement gives him much more freedom to belt it out. Challenging Bobby Darin or Frank Sinatra's version of "Mack the Knife" is gutsy, but Jack does so and gets by with it. This collection was released in 1997, but if you're a Jack Jones fan, you should get it when you can find it. I'm glad I did.
