Same Great Challenge With Out All The Erasing
Review created: 10/31/07

It is one of those games you just can't put down. The Puzzles get hard with each day, starting with Monday. Now you don't have to wait for your paper boy to do your daily crossword puzzle. The great thing I like about this game is it lets you check your work. If your wrong on your answers you'll be left with a yellow dot. Don't end with to many, it will lower your score. Great game for the Crossword Fanatic and anyone just starting.

Enjoy

I'm a young man of slightly above-average intelligence and I find these puzzles unbelievably difficult. The clues are aimed at a very specific demographic - old yuppies.

  A challenging crossword puzzle game
Review created: 03/04/08

One thing to keep in mind is, these are actual New York Times Crossword puzzles, they are not easy! Particularly the Saturday and Sunday puzzles. But the game does offer letter-by-letter hints if you are stuck or cannot come up with the right word.

These puzzles were all published over the past several years in the Times, the original date is given in the puzzle notes. They are organized by day of the week, you can play a one-week series, or a challenge mode that lets you work through a monthly calendar.

The puzzles are timed, and the hints cost you a time penalty. You can avoid the penalty if you've already entered the correct letter, so verifying your correct words is penalty-free.

The user interface is very well-done. The touch screen can be used to scroll around the puzzle (they are too large to fit completely on the screen), and to enter words either with a keyboard or by hand-writing the letters. The free-form hand-writing entry works very well, upper case and lower case characters are both recognized. You can also ask for a hint, or erase a square, using hot keys on the touch screen.

You can use the left and right trigger buttons to advance through the clues in numbered order, if that's your preferred way of doing crosswords. You can use the cross-pad to move letter-by-letter, or change from across to down clue, if you'd rather complete the puzzles that way. The stylus can also be used to move around the puzzle, and switch from across to down clues.

The game allows saving the crossword puzzle in progress, if you want to take a break and turn off the DS, or play another DS game. The puzzles are a bit harder than I'm used to doing, but I can always get help completing a crossword using the hint feature. It's a great way to work crossword puzzles.

Very Challenging - For the expert!

This game is great for adults who are trying out the DS system. It attunes itself to your skill level, ever increasing and adjusting to fit your needs. Although it is sadly out of print, you can find copies on eBay for a higher price due to it's rarity. If you take the time to shop, you will get a great deal. Absolutely worth the expense; keeps my husband occupied for hours at a time on his new DS system.

  Way better than others
Review created: 04/21/09

My friend has the DS Crosswords game and I borrowed it but hated it because it was too easy. I knew from doing the paper that NY times puzzles weren't, so I figured I had nothing to lose when buying the game. I was right! There's over 1000 different puzzles ranging in difficulty from Monday to Sunday. I'm on a Tuesday level right now, but am working on improving. This game will definitely last me a while! Don't buy the DS crosswords unless it is for a young kid or someone that doesn't usually do crossword puzzles. An experienced puzzler needs to try the NY Times Crossword game.

I recently purchased the New York Times Crosswords for the (Nintendo DS)
this will challenge everyones brain, young and old..this game will have you brushing upon your current events...
the only thing I'm great fan of is the hint option, the use of this option should be limited, other than that a great game to have....

  A+++ Rating
Review created: 11/03/08

Have tried both the NY Times Crosswords and the Nintendo CrossworDS games. I much prefer the NY Times version.

Entering the answers is much easier with the NY Times game. There are two options for inputting words: use the stylus to write them into a little box on the screen -- or use an onscreen keyboard. Game has the best handwriting recognition I've ever used. Product description mentions the game "takes full advantage of the touch screen nature of the DS". . . and that is certainly true. Also switching between vertical and horizontal rows is a snap.

I am not a genius (far from it!) but I found games on the CrossworDS version too easy. Although the NY Times version can be VERY challenging (it's a huge collection of the most notoriously difficult crosswords around)-- I still prefer it.

This is a "must have" for DS owners!

  Good Game But Hard

The game itself is very user friendly but This is not an easy crossword puzzle to do. I really don't want to think too hard -Iqaluitborn.

I love crossword puzzles and I love my DS, so this was a natural choice for me. I love that you can write the letters just like a real crossword puzzle and just like the NY Times you can choose your difficulty level by choosing the day of the week. My mom who just retired and never played a video game in her life took this over as soon as I got it off Ebay and plays it now. It is amazing!
