The King of Cool - Live in New York
This was a landmark date with Donald Harrison, Ron Carter and Billy Cobham, recorded at Blue Note. The same trio played before on the "Heroes" album. Harrison has such an agile playing style and you can feel this agility in both the tracks laid down in the trio and the ones where he was playing with Ron Carter. (It's interesting to note that Harrison is the "youngster" here, at age 44 playing with two giants of jazz, twenty years older than him.)
I have a tender spot for "Star Eyes" the fifth track on the CD. Harrison can play over five octaves with agility and ease. This makes for an instant capability for playing with the greatest people in jazz!
Overall a great CD which should be in any serious jazz-collector's shelves, and for anyone who likes Donald Harrison, this is a must-have!
