Not your usual tarot deck

I love tarot and own many diverse decks but the New Orleans tarot is the most unique. I used these deck years ago in the traditional (Celtic Cross) spread and was very impressed with the way I could work with this deck - no ambiguous results in my experience. I gave the deck away not realizing years later how much I would miss it. I am so happy to have found it again. Beyond reading, the deck to analyze the present and anticipate the future, I have found the cards accompanying book to be an education regarding the African spiritual traditions that survived relocation to the New World as Voudou and Santeria. You don't need to be a practitioner of either tradition to appreciate the powerful folk art illustrations and approach the art of divination through this beautiful deck. I would recommend this deck to anyone with an interest in African spirit traditions, African-American history, and being able to use a non-traditional tarot deck that gives what I consider direct answers and powerful advice. I've always understood tarot was a self-help tool, reading what the questioner already knows to be true on some level and yet enlightening with some help from Spirit. This deck takes an adjustment on the part of the traditional tarot reader - you won't find the same Major and Minor Arcana cards you recognize and the suits are not the usual trumps. Once you begin looking through the New Orleans Voodoo tarot perspective the book's card interpretations are both spiritual and practical when answering your questions and you may find, like me, that instead of the traditional spreads, you may prefer to work with one or two cards at a time.
