Considering whether or not the workbook will benefit. Review created: 07/09/07(updated 07/17/07) 18 of 18 people found this review helpful.
The benefits of using the Right Brain Drawing Workbook First, I have mentioned before, after teaching this concept for many years, I have seen proven in almost every case that the Right Brain technique works best with at least some contact with an instructor who knows and understands the concepts being presented. So as with any of the Right Brain Books, there will be that possibility and predictable difficulty in this case as well if there is no teacher in the mix at all. Still for the very most dedicated student who is determined to find and free their artist, this workbook can be of great use. My 2 suggestions for success would be these: 1) For every lesson, and as much as is humanly possible to do so, get in a quite place alone. Play soft instrumental music. And 2) Follow the directions exactly and in the order presented. When those steps are taken, improvement will most certainly follow. Finally, you will be asked or it will be recommended that a precise list of tools and supplies be purchased. It is quite possible to manage very well with similar supplies and even common tools found in almost any home. Yet in the case of one or 2 of the suggested items on the list, there will be some benefit to having and using what is recommended. This would be a situation where each user must decided what they are able or willing to invest in the program. The techniques will work with or without most or all of the listed tools. By following the earlier suggestions concerning a quite space and soft instrumental music. These two most important ingredients will assist in transporting the person into that special creative place. The tools are less important than getting into that most desirable arena in which the artist dwells. As you employ whatever tools you settle on using, just be careful to follow the steps exactly. The results will be both surprising and exciting.

This Workbook is a companion to The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain and is a useful accompaniment to the book itself. It is spiral-bound so it lays flat and is easy to draw on, includes one drawing sheet for each exercise, and VERY usefully, includes a plastic "viewing pane" as recommended in the book. One slight drawback (for me -- maybe an advantage for some) is that it repeats instructions for all the exercises in the main textbook itself, and includes fewer supplementary exercises than I had hoped. Also, with only one drawing sheet for each exercise you're probably going to want to buy a drawing pad anyway. All in all, I highly recommend you buy "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" book first, try a few exercises, and if you like them and see progress, then buy the "Workbook". (You won't need the viewing pane until later exercises). All in all, a worthwhile investment if the book seems to be helping you.
