The Neptunes Present ... Clones: I Wish It Was Just The Instrumentals
Review created: 08/20/03

Pros:
The beats

Cons:
Thy rhymes

The Neptunes made the album I always wished P. Diddy would've made. Rather than being the focal point of the album, they're making the beats (most of them), producing the music, and simply adding their touches to the album. I always thought rather than rapping all over an album, Diddy would be better served simply executively producing an album of all star MC's. He seems to think that he makes all the hits, why not make an album full of them? But, he'd rather rap about J. Lo. Puffy the business man? The man. Puffy the rapper? Wack. This album has nothing to do with Diddy, but the Neptunes,...

  The Neptunes bring the tunes

Pros:
some good songs...

Cons:
...and some bad ones

Ah, The Neptunes Any mainstream artist needing a shot of adrenaline in their career knows exactly where to go for insta-hit production. Their sound is recognizable, though strangely hard to duplicate by others and strangely managing to avoid being repetitive and boring. When you pick up The Neptunes latest offering, Clones, you can t help but wonder at its potential when scanning down the list of artists. Will this Ludacris joint be another banger? What about this Nelly song I see here? Will it be as infectious as Hot In Herre ? Wow, and Nas doing a song with The Neptunes? The Neptunes were...

Clones? - Sounds like a new Arnold Schwarzenegger Movie...

Pros:
Neptunes Production, A Couple of Decent Joints, ODB

Cons:
Commercial Artists and Songs, Terrible Rappers

For the past 2 years, the Neptunes team of Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams have plagued the commercial music industry like cancer. Theyve produced a countless amount of hits for not only hip-hop artists, but have crossed over into R

Another Clone to Throw in the Bargain Bin........

Pros:
Nicely-done production, most of the time

Cons:
Bad guests

The Neptunes Chad Hugo and annoying frontman Pharrell Williams . Nowadays, they seem like perfect fodder for a VH1's "Where Are They Now" special, but back a year or so ago, they were on top of the music-producing world. It seemed like every rapper/singer wanted some of their "unique" sound (Although, in my opinion, some of their current beats sound like Jay-E's - Nelly's main producer - throwaways). Nevertheless, all of that must have increased the egos of the duo, since they decided to make an album featuring the so-called hottest rappers of the game and some of their own artists from the...

Neptunes replicate previous successes with 'Clones'
Review created: 08/22/03
by: hated -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
ill beats.

Cons:
a few lyrical bumps.

You know it when you hear it. Your toes start tapping. Your head starts bobbing. And it doesn't even matter if the lyrics are wack; the beat has you hypnotized. From Justin Timberlake to Nelly, Ludacris to Britney Spears, to everything else on your FM dial: you know a Neptunes track when you hear one. The Neptunes are by far the hottest producers in hip hop, putting their stamp on the industry by making hot joints for nearly every major artist out right now. From every corner of pop and hip pop, the music industry's envelope has been pushed by the forward thinking of super producers Pharrell..
