Need for Speed Underground (PC Games, 2003)

I purchased this game because I'd played the demo, liked the game but I had a few problems. So I figured the demo might not be up to snuff to the full game. Unfortunatelty, here is a great concept for a game that wasn't finished. The controls are terrible. Unless you use a gamepad, the keyboard is the only other option. The developers must never have heard of Joysticks and Steering Wheels when they made this game. The graphics are dated but I didn't mind that. The other huge problem that is inherent with both 'Underground' and 'Most Wanted' in the 'Need for Speed' series is a conflict when you try to install both games. With either game installed, you must rename the Speed.exe file to some other name before installing the other game. Then go back and rename it to its original name after you've installed the second game. This installation flaw is specific to these two games and the demos have the same problems. I had no problems installing the NFS Carbon, just these two mentioned games didn't like each other. They both have the Speed.exe file and Windows XP just turns stupid trying to figure it out. Because of the poor controls I give it a below average though the game is typical NFS quality otherwise.

In terms of racing, this game probably isn't the best...

The dynamics of the cars aren't really that accurate and sometimes it can be too easy to win.

however, this game introduced so much more into the genre and spawned a whole new generation of games. following on from the success of the Fast and the Furious film, NFSU gives you the opportunity to become a part of the culture, admittidely in a digital environment.

Having played NFSU 1 & 2, the race tracks in this one aren't as good as in 2, but still provide plenty of enjoyment. It takes some time to get used to any specific track, but there are only so many and it can get repetitive when racing on the same track again and again.

That said, it's a great game with varied race styles which further add to the appeal. It's easy to pick up and play and there's a real incentive to keep playing so that you can keep unlocking various parts.

Everything about the game is fantastic. I always fear of scratch on the cd. But there were none. Thanks for your kindness.

key board controls suck I have this in PS2 and it great the best race game i have played and wanted it for my computer don"t do it, it sucks totally... Also would not load on XP pro vary surprized and it did load on Vista who figured.

Need for Speed Underground is a great game. There is nothing too fancy or too exotic about the cars on the game. The game shows cars that can actually be seen and driven in our everyday life such as Dodge Neons, Honda Civics, Toyota Celicas, and more. Players would have engine and performance specification about those cars and great ideas about performance parts and accessories just in case that one of these cars could come across as a personal ride or as a first car. I would definitely recommend this game!

Fun to drive overall. No supercars like in older need for speed games. This one is mostly rice rocket tuners, they do drive fast and fun though. Too much about bling for me in the car building scores. The tracks are mostly very good but I would like less obstructions for easy fast cruising,just for my driving style. Maybe some racers like to slam and bam around the track or prefer hard to run tracks. The easy setting could also be easier for less skilled younger gamers and let the good driver use hard settings.
Great addition to the need for speed colection {I have most of them}.If I need to choose only one underground game I'd pick underground 2. It has more tracks with both fast open track cruising and tight technical tracks, plus a fun world mode. I liked both games.

I gought a need for speed underground game last week for a verry cheap price. I was impressed with the condition of the game it was well packaged, plays excellent on my computer, and has absolutly no scratches on the game itself, the transaction went very smoothly and it arrived with in 4 days.

I'm a middle aged person (46), and this is one of the few computer games that I can actually enjoy. The easiest car to use is the NEON.I find that the other cars in this game are not as enjoyable for me to use, but this may be a matter of personal taste. I enjoy the way the NEON "feels", and I also like the way the NEON sounds. The designers of this game must have been considering EVERYONE when they created this masterpiece. I'm actually able to win a race once in a while! I really like the way this game plays!

Really fun arcade style racing. Graphics hold up pretty well by even todays standards, only downside is no free-roaming mode like in underground 2 and carbon. Still a great racing game if you're a fan of the genre.

I love the game. It has intense graphics,realistic cars, and keep you excited the entire time. This is game is worth every penny i spent. I would Recommend this game to the import turner scene.
