Nearly Perfect!

With a catalogue that spans over three decades, It's no surprise that Todd Rundgren has put out many excellent albums that went under the radar of most radio stations, music stores and the record-buying public. This collection of songs brings Todd's songwriting talent and soulful vocals together with an outstanding cast of musicians, background vocalists, and guest star Bobby Womack (on The Want Of A Nail). The fact that there was very little promotion by Warner Brothers didn't help sales, and this album found its way to cutout bins and bargain racks.
Nearly Human has so much to offer, from the R&B influence used in The Want Of A Nail to rockin' songs like Can't Stop Running and Unloved Children. Parallel Lines, a beautiful ballad recalling lost love that never comes together, was originally part of a score Todd wrote for the production of the play, Up Against It. The Waiting Game and Fidelity stand up with Todd's best ballads, and the passionate Hawking showcases Mr. Rundgren's amazing vocal abilities.
If you enjoy thoughtful songs written in a soulful pop vein, like Hall & Oates, this album is worth checking out. If you're looking for Todd's greatest hits (Hello It's Me, I Saw The Light, Bang The Drum All Day), stick with Rhino's The Best Of Todd Rundgren.
