Navigon 7100 Car GPS Receiver

Okay I will start off by saying this...the Navigon 7100 is AWESOME! This is my 2nd GPS unit. I have the Magellan RoadMate 3000T but I'm going to sell it. Now don't get me wrong the Magellan is very good, but the Navigon is just BETTER! It has a classy, sleek, snazzy look and the unit its much smaller than the Magellan. The Navigon 7100 has the advanced SiRF StarIII GPS chip which means that it is able to get satellite acquisition faster and quicker than common household named GPS units and it does! To my test it took 5 secs to acquire a fix!! When it comes to performance the Navigon 7100 out surpasses the Magellan. The screen for one is big and wider. When its in navigation mode it can show a lot of information which is the reason for the clutter on the screen. Some users have said that they couldn't see half the stuff on the screen and that the writing is too small. I think thats bogus. Obviously the person using it either has bad eyesight or their glasses needs changing. They also have updates for the unit so it will get better with time. Plus the user of the Navigon 7100 has a choice of what is on the screen so it shouldn't be a problem. One thing I also should mention is to use the stylus thats comes with it. Most of the menus are not conducive for persons with large fingers. I have seen lots of GPS units but the Navigon 7100 interface is a lot more intuitive and informative. The Navigon 7100 has gotten a lot of its negative reviews from the fact that the interface is not intuitive and its sluggish and this is true it is slow, but that minor fact its completely overlooked once you get to play around with it. Thats what users have failed to do. Furthermore this GPS unit is not as common as the Magellan, Garmin, or Tom-Tom but it sure give them a run for the money. The reason for me buying this until is for the features of Free Traffic Alerts (alerts you of traffic emergencies on the road), Text-to-Speech (It speaks the names of the streets) and "REALITY VIEW" (A Killer feature!) Reality View is where you are about to enter a confusing junction on the highway, the Reality View will show you a static picture of the junction where you are supposed to exit on or stay on and shows you what lane(s) are the most optimal for you. This alone is worth the price I paid for it...($265.00 on Ebay). I for one like more advanced electronics that I have to read about and learn in order to get the most out of it. This GPS unit I will say is not for people who want this as their FIRST GPS unit...in fact I would say stay away from it. Its pretty advanced for beginners. It is the "Rolls-Royce" of GPS units. So with all that said if you want a solid, comprehensive, advanced, all-in-one, GPS then go for Navigon 7100...hands down 10/10

I purchased from ebay and this is the best gps I owned so far.Display is large and bright, and I prefer the 3D view which is easier to follow when driving. Compared to the other models on the market, the price/features were very competitive. Absolutlely love the unit. I usually charge the unit at home, enter my destinations ahead of time from my desk, and then mount it and go. Noticed a few odd routing choices vs some of preferences in my own neighborhood, but when I'm in unfamilair areas, it always seems to do just fine. Haven't had any of the issues others have expressed - no U turns, no traffic data problems, POIs are good, satellite signal is not a problem in the car, mount is fine (I like the little flexibility), battery power is good, I like the portability of the unit. Unlike others, I like that it does not bug you when you make a wrong turn or modify the route yourself - it simply recalibrates on the fly. Haven't noticed any slowness, or bugs. Sure, maybe its not perfect - I can't imagine any mapping system is. But weighed against its features and ease of use, I'm still very happy I bought this unit and have recommended it to everyone I know.

it is harder then others to us, it should have a manual screen control, all is by touch now an d the monitor is too far away to do so and dangeros, there should be also a manual way of controlling. I foun dit not very friendly to program and control compared to other 4 I had previously.

I love the speed warnings, free realtime traffic updates,operation off a SD card that is easy to update and vast POI listings. I do not like the poor bluetooth service of the device. I have a Samsung Blackjack II and I have only got it connect to this GPS once. The owner's manual says that you can load your contacts onto this device through the bluetooth although this is not possible. I have owned a Navigon 5100 Max and I know that device does all that is advertised with my phone. The Bluetooth technology on this device is just outdated. This is great piece of technology for under $200. If you find it for less than $250 only get it if is bland new with everything included. It certainly is not woth $300-$450. It is sturdy. The unit I bought is used and functions well even though I must do a reset between trip to prevent poor trip planning calculations or else the "RAM" clogs up and it produces some wasteful routing. 01 February 2009

I reviewed consumer reports and ask questions to get biggest bang for the buck. Lots of features, easy to access. touch screen, talking, bluetooth, and many other features, plus biggest of all is life time traffic up dates. . I would recommend it if you travel thru big cities, or across the country.

Brilliant! Have had no problems with it! I just moved here from NZ and have been researching GPS's and I have got to say this the best I ave come across. IN NZ we drive on the left side of the road so the last thing I was wanting to concentrate on was directions. It has made city driving a breeze and has been an excellent buy!

Great features to especially useful as a coffee fan. You can scan the area for restaurants, coffee shops even specific brands such as Starbucks.

There have been some complaints that some of the graphics are to small to see and the interface is a little slow. This maybe be true for those with poor eyesight and the menu was a tad slow but there is a soft ware update that can be downloaded from the web site that makes this unit the best I have used!

The Navigon 7100 is without a doubt the Rolls Royce of the available GPS systems. It's features are numerous and many. Options abound. There is nothing to dislike about the unit and everything to love about it. I can find absolutely nothing negative to say about it. Heaps of praise is all I have for it. I was extremely lucky and found my unit for just a hair over 1/2 of retail price. But even at retail price it is a bargain.

When I saw that I could get an up to date 4.3" navi machine for under $200 i was pumped up. I purchased the smaller one for my fiance and she loved it. So I wanted to try the bigger one. The 7100 has up to date maps, a stylus pen for ease of use and it is blutooth capable to work with ur cell phone. Battery lasts a good amount of time and it comes with car and wall charger as well as carrying case. Best window mount design i have ever seen on a gps. maps are clear and rerouting is instantaneous and flawless. love every second of this gadget.

I like everything this products says it does, what I like was the speech, it helps to hear a voice tell you where to turn instead of having to look up at the screeen to see where you have to turn.
I decided to buy the Navigon 7100 because of its 3D grahpics, it helped has my family and I recently drove from Hondo,Tx to San Diego,Ca and also to Anaheim,Ca, it helped me alot to get where I neeeded to go with no problem.
I would consider the Navigon 7100 a great buy and would tell everybody it is a great product, and to buy a Navigon if they are looking for a car gps, this product will not let you down.

This is my second Navigon GPS. I like the feature set that you can read about on their web site. The only down side that I notice is that the directions it takes is not always the most logical or shortest route.

The real reason I bought Navigon 7100 is Live Traffic included for free Lifetime. As far as I know Navigon is only GPS with free Live Traffic.

This GPS is a great product! I wanted a GPS because I am soon going to college and wanted something that would help me get around in unfamiliar places. I used to have a TomTom One and this one blows it out of the water! The realtime FREE traffic updates are very helpful and the graphics are great, especially on the 4.3" widescreen. The only issue is that you can't just drive around and look at the map, you have to have a destination set. It has tons of POIs and some even have reviews courtesy of Zagat. Overall this is an awesome product!

I know Navigon from old, also TomTom, and I must say the 7100 is really a user friendly tool. The software is fresh and easy to follow - logical since it's German - and works with the clarity that any user would appreciate.

I already owned a Navigon 5100 which included most of the same functions as the 7100. I also own or have used a Tomtom and Garmin. When the refurbished Navigon was available through ebay, it was at least worth a bid, and lo and behold, I won. With a slightly larger screen it is much easier to see than my 5100, and I really do enjoy looking at all the information it has to offer. The lifetime traffic condition reports were why I justified paying more for the original 5100 but has turned out to not be that important in purchasing the 7100. I do like seeing the speed limits and the ability to set warnings if you exceed your set threshold. I also like that it tells me if my destination is on the right or left, which makes life much easier when in heavy traffic. All-in-all, I am very pleased with my purchase and recommend the Navigon 7100 to anyone looking for a really good navigation device.

I decided to buy this GPS because of 4 features: The size of the srceen, touch screen, bluetooth and the 3D graghics in the intersctions. I havn't tested the bluetooth yet but the touchscreen works well and in major intersections, the 3D helps alot but, again, only on major intersections. I was desapointed though, with the navigation because on the way to my previous house it had a terrible error signalizing to go north on a road when the right way was south and even though ajusted to fastest time it wanted me to take a lot longer trip because it did not recognize a U turn point right beside the house. Going to work also, it did not have in it's map the entrance to the company on the south part of the road, only on the north and whanted me to go all the way down the road and come back. Besides thouse terrible experiences on the first week it has helped me a lot after but I would not buy it again because of thous terrible errors.

The unit was all that I expected. It was very simple to get started with it. The graphics are great and you have many choices of what you want displayed or not displayed. The dash mount is great since you do not have to mount it on the window. The signal is strong and do not need an extra signal receiver. You will enjoy this for sure.

Sleek and nice to look at but no help with customer service. If you buy make sure it is from authorized dealer otherwise you have no warranty. I bought a new unit and Navigon said sorry when I needed a part since it was not from authorized dealer and would not honor. I would never buy their product again and would sell mine but the price has come down so much since I purchased I cannot afford to lose as much as it would cost me. Be aware of this information when purchasing their gps. I am very disappointed and intend to tell the world about their policies on warranty. Parts are still a problem to find to purchase. All the dealers I have checked with do not have any batteries or parts if needed and can offer no advice as to how or where to get except send it back to company? Again I would not purchase again from Navigon.

Nice product and has a big easy to see screen. The hands free telephone link is handy as well. I have previously had the 2100 and this one has more bells and whistles on it to make it useful.
