Navigon 5100 Car GPS Receiver

This is my second Navigon I already have the 2100. I love these units after much research I find the Navigon Brand is great the service from the company is outstanding! I have a large area to cover in a rural area of West Virginia and the maps are really much better than I ever expected in this area. Just Remember to hold the off and on button down for at least 20 sec to shut the unit down if not it stays on standby and that could cause a software issue! Don't worry you will love it! I cant do without. the speed alert is great as a reminder!

This is a great GPS receiver and will not hurt your wallet either. We now have two Navigon GPS receivers and I would recomend them over the "other" brands due to their ease of use, price, and customer support. I've read several reviews on this GPS and I'm glad I didn't let the "bad" ones keep me from buying it.

EXCELLENT NAVIGATION UNIT. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS TO ANYONE TRAVELING. THE MAPS ON THE NAVIGON SYSTEM ARE THE MOST ACCURATE MAPS AVAILABLE. YOU CAN FIND ROADS ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY. HAS A BUILT IN SPEED WARNING SYSTEM THAT COMES IN HANDY.

you can count to twelve to turn it on, and you can count to ten when you turn it off. A bit unusual if you ask me. approx 1-4 minute acquire satellite time.
other than that i like it.

the gps are really fast, but the volume is so low, couldn't even barely hear it at top level while doing 70.
The Lifetime traffic are somewhat useless, it's only tell you where are the accidents at, but like normal traffics is not.
Small screen, really small buttons.

Overall: Fast GPS, but you might look at 7100.

I dislike the volume level. It's at the highest level and operates just fine without the music. Turn on the radio, even to the lowest level and you will not be able to hear the unit while giving instructions. I contacted Navigon customer service...they were very helpful, but their information only increased the volume slightly. Overall this unit is the best I've owned...so Navigon for future models...please turn up the volume!!

Map and street directioning is great. Points of interest is very clear and very helpful. The sound in the system could be made louder.

PROS: It comes on and tracks quickly. Its straight forward and simple to use.The screen is clear. The lifetime traffic is more than worth the price. CON: Volume doesn't go loud enough even in a car. I love it.

Nothing is perfect, but for the money you can't go wrong with this one. It is slow to get a satellite fix on bootup, but once you get past that it does as good a job as units costing hundreds more. The subscription-free traffic service and lane assist are a big plus it has also. I've tried Tom Tom and Garmin before I bought this on and I'm happy, I only wish I thought ahead and got the wide screen.

This is super easy to use very accurate and i love it.Great to take from one car to the next Simply remove from box and go.

Saw this device on ShopNBCTV and thought it looked nice. Love the warning when you go over the speed limit and the graphics are pretty good.

We immediately noticed the need for a software update since the parents' street was not recognized. I'd also like the warning for the next turn a little sooner. If I were to have to depend on the device for navigation in a strange city, I might end up missing my turn and turning around or causing an accident to follow instruction at the instant it was given.

I like this GPS. At first I was having trouble using the touchscreen, but then I just calibrated and it worked great. The unit is compact but has large enough buttons to make the touch screen usuable. The navigation is pretty much what you are going to get with any system. When you come up to an exit on an interstate, a picture will appear that show what lane you need to be in in order to make the exit (lane assist). I thought that was pretty usefull. You will also see other things on the map as you drive such as restaurants, parking, gas stations, parks, that are known as points of interest. You then have the option of selecting one of these and adding it to your preexisting navigation. Takes a little while to turn on (keep the button held in, it will eventually turn on). User manual said 6 seconds, but its more like 10 - 12. Also took about a minute or two to get the satalite signal to start tracking. All in all, a pretty good GPS at a great price.

It's portable, car or walking. Shows flat map or 3D. Even tells which turning lane to be in. Easy to see screen. Lots of info and adjustments. No monthly costs. Easy to update.

Product delivered as promised in a timely manner.I like the sleekness of the product however i have issues with the traffic feature as well as the volume of the speaker component. It is very hard to hear what directions are being spoken with the car running. However the product is useful.

The Navigon 5100 has some great features, but also has some negatives. The screen is too small for all that's going on. It's difficult to use if you have large hands. It tends to lock up and re-boots itself on occasion even after I loaded the latest update. The traffic function is good and I really like the "reality view". Overall it's a well thought of device, but it needs some fine tuning.

I haven't had any problems with this unit yet. The thing that I like about this unit is the free traffic. This is the reason why I bought this modal. The traffic update is free and included with this modal and you don't have to do nothing to it. Some people say that the navigon is not as easy to request new entries as other gps's and that the screen is too small for screen touch control, but I don't see that being a problem for me.

After a client informed me that there is no "subscription" fee or any other monthly bill associated with using a GPS (yes, laugh away, that is what I thought!), I bought the Navigon 2100 for my husband last fathers' day. He'd had nothing but terrible luck with GPS's in the past (when they first came out), and for years had been mapping directions online or using a mapbook. He wasn't overly thrilled when he opened his fathers' day present, but I told him to give it a chance. Well, within a week, he couldn't live without it! It's VERY simple to use, and the Navigons' display is clear and easy to read/understand...so easy, in fact, that I then bought my Mom a Navigon 5100 for Christmas that same year, and she also loves it. Mom and Husband are BOTH somewhat technology challenged, and this couldn't be any simpler for both of them to use! I've used TomTom and Garmin, and even though they are more expensive, I don't find them as user friendly as the Navigon, and I like the realistic looking road it displays too! My husband recently lost his 2100, so...Merry Ho Ho...I got him this 5100 and is he going to love it!!! Long and short of it, if you're scared of trying a GPS, or think they'll be hard to figure out, DON'T BE, and buy this one! You won't even realize just how handy it is until you start using it.

p.s. - when travelling, you can search for a location (ie, gas station, bank, restaurant, amusement park, etc.), and it will provide you a list of what is near you, then guide you to your choice! This has been a lifesaver more than once!!

Navigon stopped selling and supporting all GPS units in the United States. They decided to go with an iPhone only app.

I have enough going on with my iPhone, so I wanted a GPS unit that was small and easy to use and included traffic. For the price the Navigon 5100 GPS with 4.3" widescreen display that includes Free lifetime traffic was a perfect fit.

The impressive thing to me was how well the traffic works. I drive highway miles (in the Chicagoland area) and it has told me of backups and accidents before I start my route. I can choose to avoid them and re-route or not.

The maps were also very current. I have owned a TomTom and Garmin. Keeping the maps updated was no fun and it took way to long to get the current maps. This unit had all the current maps loaded which was a nice feature.

One Con is that it is almost impossible to find the map updates to purchase. So if there are major road changes it won't have them in the future.

To recap: If you want a Widescreen GPS with Free Lifetime traffic, this unit will not let you down. I only rated it Good because the units were discontinued, if it wasn't for that I would rate these as Excellent.

This is as good and detailed as shown. love it. I wanted a navigation device to make sure I will not get lost.....

I bought this particular GPS because of the price. I only need one occasionally, I didn't want to spend a lot for a unit I use once a month and it had the features I wanted, mostly text to voice and touch screen, plus it has traffic reports, all for about $100.
The good is the maps seem accurate, it doesn't take that long to acquire the satellites and calculates routes quickly.
The bad is it is not the easiest to input addresses, and for me the text is too small but I need glasses for reading but not driving.
Bottom line I am happy with it for the price but my next GPS will have a bigger screen. At $100 you have to make sacrifices on what you get and this one had the least of those I looked at and I looked at all the less expensive models.
