As a Troop Coordinatior for a troop of American Heritage Girls, I selected "National Velvet" to show as a film to complete their Horsemanship badge. It was exciting to see the girls cheer Velevet on as she turned the corners and leapt over hedges. Although it is an older film, laughter, tears, and smiles generated throughout the crowd. This truly is a classic film filled with the innocence of a time long past, plus magnifying the difficulties and the values held dear to a family living in England during the 1920's. The love of a horse is felt through the eyes and actions of Velvet. An endearing film, every horse lover should see it. I hightly recommend this film.

This movie is a hilarious old fashioned movie.
If you like horses you will like this movie. (Even seasoned equestrian riders can appreciate the skillful jumping that takes place in this movie and as an added bit of knowledge, when the filming for this movie was done they actually gave the "pie" to elizabeth Taylor as a gift.)
If you ever had a crush on Mickey Rooney you will like this movie.
My favorite character is Donald Velvet Browns little brother he is the epitomy of a boy who has grown up the youngest in a family of all girls.
Although it has that old film look and feel it is nice because it is in color.

Every thing on this dvd was great. I purchased this dvd because it was the cheapest price I found any where it was hard to find in local stores. The features on the dvd were better tha I expected and I would deffenitly would buy dvd's on ebay rather than a local stoe or a video store because of the price differances. If you look hard enough you can find the bet prices on ebay.

I saw this movie as a child and loved it. I bought it for my five year old granddaughter, and now she too loves it. Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney are adorable as children. And, who doesn't love a tense horse race with the long shot winning. Throw in an innocent young love story, and you have a winner of a movie for kids.

This movie is just such a heartwarming classic and ahead of it's time. Touching and for any horse lovers enjoyment. I bought another one for Mother's Day! It makes a great gift!

It was my favorite movie when I was growing up, so I bought it for my niece who is also a horse lover.

It's such a good old movie and I bought it because my granddaughter loves horses and wants to be a vet someday and take care of horses (she's 7), so she loves any movies, articles, etc. about horses. I knew she would really like this movie and she did.

I saw this movie many years ago. I have always told my children and grandchildren about it because it was such a wonderful story. Now to have it on DVD is really something. Watching the DVD brought back many memories. The most important of which, Is that a movie could be entertaining, interesting, and have a good story plot, without the use of violence, gore, or the over use of four letter words.
The DVD is of good quality. It is not grainy.
I actually bought two of them so that my granddaughters would have one to watch at home. They loved it too.

The classic story of a young girl with a dream. Her mother supports her and believes in her dreams and gives her encouragement to reach them. Her father, who loves her, takes a little more coaxing but wants his daughter to be happy.
Velvets dreams begin to take shape when a young traveler (Mickey Rooney) comes to town looking for Velvets mother to find out information on his father, whom she knew. They give him work and a place to stay and he in turn helps Velvet (played by Elizabeth Taylor) to reach her dreams.

This is a great inspiring story of never giving up and believing in yourself. One of Mickey Rooney best! I love this movie!! It's especially good if you like horses.

This DVD is an excellent story for any young girl or boy. It allows the child to see that possibilities are what are important. The character played by Elizabeth Taylor is told that she may not ride in the Grand National and she defies convention and wins the race. I love this story. Grit and determination and practice will get one closer to one's goals. Buy this DVD for any child under 90!
