National Electrical Code 2005 by Natl Fire Protection Assn Staff (2004, Paperback)

My boss was glad to see the new code book in my possession so he inturn
ordered 2 ( from a distributor $$$). I have browsed through the book
being new in the field of electrical it has opened my eyes to a new
world. I would encourage anyone involved in the electrical field to
purchase one of these helpful books.

First of all, if you like picture descriptions in a handbook get the Yellow Hardback Copy of 2005 NEC. It is much more descriptive in drawings and illustration. This Red NEC is all text and gets the job done for quick reference because of it's lighter size. I keep this in my company car for the purpose of reference. Although sometimes I wished I purchased the Yellow Handbook due to the pictures. I like it.

I was looking to buy the national electrical code 2005 for studing.The book was for sale by many ebay sellers. The price on this book was lower than the rest of the sellers on ebay. Also the fact that the book was new made it any easy to decid

The first book never arrived, lost in mail, no insurance. The second book arrived fine. It is an accurate textbook type of book. Not for an amateur, but helpful for studying for electrician license.

It is a must have for anyone in the eletrical field. There are changes in this book that were not in the 2002 code book. So i strongly suggest getting this book if you are in the field so you can make sure you are doing your job safely as the 2005 code says.

I had quite a conundrum on my hands as I was scheduled to take my Electrical administrators license test on short notice and came to find out that until August the state was still using the 2005 NEC for all electrical testing. I thought nothing of it until I called a dozen book stores and electrical supply houses and discovered that the 2005 version of the book was out of print in lieu of the new 2008 NEC which would soon replace it's predecessor. I was afraid I would need to call and reschedule the test which aside from fees would have resulted in a variety of complications. Fortunately I thought of EBAY and was able to find the book at a great price, have it shipped to my home within 3 days, giving me enough time to study, and subsequently pass my test and acquire my license. If not for Ebay and the seller I would likely not have passed the test and potentially may have not even been able to take it as it was an open book test. Thanks EBAY and thanks to the seller for making this productive and lucritive achievement possible!

The book contains the current (Jan. 2009) adopted code standards for electrical applications. The specifications in the newer books have not yet been adopted and thus are not in use to date. The standards in this code book are the ones necessary to pass the Michigan exam for 2009 licensure.

I needed to do a code update class for 2005. The local electrical supply houses where i normally pick up my code books were out of 2005 copies so i found one on half.com (part of Ebay) and purchased it for $45. It arrived in 3 or 4 days in like new condition. The class went smoothly. No driving around from supply house to supply house or book store to book store or having the book store order it for me and then having to go back, just ordered it and then there it was in the mail a few days later.

Something you should know before you get this book.. IT is fo qualified electricians only!!
Recently had a customer call for a service call, when I got there he had no power in the rooms that he tried wiring himself, and he had had a small fire. He said that he thought he could do this small remodel project on his own, and even bought a previous addition to this book to make sure he did it right. He found it difficult to understand but felt comfortable with his wiring. Needless to say he was in error..
The NEC only gives you the basic requirements that inspectors look for during their inspections of various electrical projects, IT DOES NOT.... I repeat..NOT!!!... tell you the correct wiring technique for various required circuitry, or how to wire these circuits in a safe manner. It also changes every 3 years, by addition or elimination of, clarification of, rephrasing of, and updating of, various electrical requirements in homes and businesses.
If you aren't a qualified electrician, or a qualified Apprentice electrican, this book is not for you.. Do NOT try this at home, we are Professionals..
By the way... that previously mentioned customer's insurance did not cover his repairs because he did it himself, and the fire was a direct result of his trying to do it himself...

Actually, I have not read the book yet. I bought it because my old book was 10 yrs old and I'm interested on the new updates of the electrical code.

It's not so much love, like, dislike, it's a neccesity in this trade. If you wanna pass inspections and keep from electrocuting yourself or others and NOT burn a premise down, you need to know the code. What's nice about this "Electrician's Bible" someone else installed the tabs, thank you very much for that. Keep safe Sparky's.....

easy read, made referencing code fast. A must for speed in looking up codes. Allows me to go right to specific areas quickly which makes me more likely to reference and double check codes.
