Napoleon Dynamite (2004, DVD)

For the first 30 minutes, no make that 60 minutes, of this movie, I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. It was recommended to me by my sister-in-law's brother and I kept thinking "Now, why was he raving so much about this movie? And why did I listen to him since I don't even know him that well?" And then, out of nowhere, I realized I was enjoying the movie and in fact I simply HAD to know where this off the wall story was going and where it all would end. It's just one of those movies.

The main character, Napoleon, grows on you in a slow, unnoticeable way. There is no other way to describe it. You find yourself completely rooting for something great to happen to him because he is so endearing. And his best friend Pedro (seen the "Vote for Pedro" shirts and bumper stickers cropping up all over America?) is a tender-hearted puppy dog that you want to take home with you.

The movie is just a 'day in the life' type flick about a High School nerd, his semi-dysfunctional family and his hodgepodge of friends. The Napoleon-isms alone make it worth the watch, but the dance scene is the icing on the cake. And the refreshing thing about this movie is that there is no swearing, no violence (unless you count yelling at Tina to come and get her ham) and no questionable skin shots. Watch it with the family, watch it with friends, or watch it alone...it's a laugh out loud movie regardless. Just don't go into it expecting to be WOWED from the get go - it's a slow, subtle humor that evolves as the movie progresses.

This movie reminds me of the 'nothingness' that went on in my youth! It's PERFECT! It's a 'just-a-day-in-the-life' kind of film. It's slow, and well played. It was recommended by my kids, who thought it was hilarious. I began watching it and the whole time I was thinking 'how stupid is this'? But, the fact was, I couldn't stop watching it. A couple days later, I popped it in again and watched it by myself! That was a rental so I had to have my own to view when I'm in that sort of 'mood'.
The catchy phrases and drabness of the movie are what makes it so appealing. I highly recommend it! Even my 74 yr old dad loves it!

This movie is really funny & hauntingly similar to my own high school experience.
I first saw a small segment of this movie at a friend's house & I knew at that time I had to have it.

The item I bought did not work, but I´ve seen the movie before and it´s a classic.

If you like movies like, Harold & Kumar, Nacho Libre, and Night at the Roxbury, you´ll love this one!

For some reason, I thought I wanted to see this movie, so I bought it. This movie is just awful because it doesn't appeal to my standards of living. Preston, Idaho is a nice town and deserves to be represented by something better than this ugly group of misfits. Sorry, but I gave it away because I knew I would never watch this movie again. Maybe you won't even post this review, but I don't know any other way to write about this awful film.

When I first watched this with my children I kept thinking "why am I watching this???" It seems so dumb! However, it has become one of the most quoted movies for "life" in general. It is a very unique sense of humor that is not for everyone.....but it is amusing in a quircky sort of way. It was well worth it to get through half.com. :o)

The first time I saw this movie I thought it was really stupid but, luckily my nieces and nephews let it run over and over and the more times I watched it, the funnier it got! Heder is a great actor. I have seen him in other movies also and he still places the silly character of someone who has no clue. It works for him so it doesn't get old. Watch it a few times and see what you think. I was one of the first people, especially adults that bought the vote for pedro t-shirt. The kids went crazy when they saw it because they wanted one and the fact that an adult actually watched the movie they liked so much. Parents, watch it and have an open mind and you will be glad you did. Your kids will be amazed and maybe even think you are cool for once! (to them) we already know we are! lol

Loved it!!! Kind of annoying the first time you watch it, but grows on you, something new each time you watch it. Laugh out Loud movie!!

I bought this, because some nights there is nothing on television that sparks our interest! It's those nights, that I like to pull a DVD from our collection and play it! Great movie for the nights we need some laughs!

This is a funny adult comedy. It will make you laugh out of your seat. The characters are hilarious and crazy.

I love Napoleon Dynamite! The disc itself was in great shape no scratches on it at all. It is a funny movie if you have a sense of humor. I really loved the price. It was an inexpensive movie sure to deliver alot of laughs.

Unfortunately, the Seller never sent me this DVD, so I can only imagine how interesting it would have been to watch. The Seller took my payment, never sent the movie, and then was listed as "No Longer a Registered Ebay Member." How sweet is that?

This is a cult classic film. Just good old fashion humor. One of those unexpected good movies. Appropiate for a range wide of ages.

i like the movie cause it has a way of getting you attached to napoleon...its about a hight school nerd and his misfuctional family...The kid is poor...it tells a story about him finding two friends...THey came out to be the best ever for him...if you want a movie that will make you laugh and laugh buy this one~~~ even no it is it is dumb and wierd its so dumb,and wierd it will make you crack up...i SUggest you add it to your dvd collection...

Cheap price, but still great product and delivery. I bought if as a gift for my brother, but needed it by Christmas. Delivery was fast enough that I got it in time, and for a reasonable price, too.

Love the movie, comedy is simple and perfectly funny. The quality of the disc was excellent, eventhough I bought it used. This was a perfect movie to add to my movie collection. My experirence with ebay has been absolutely positive.

I bought this as a gift for Christmas for my Grandson. I actually thought this was a really stupid movie, but he loves it (he is 10) so that is ALL that matters. When he opened it at Christmas, he was more excited than with all the wrestler guys I got him....go figure! He is just like his parents, they like stupid (so callled funny) movies too! I am just glad the kid was happy, that's what Christmas is for!

If you have a rather dry sense of humor and either grew up or went to high school in the late 80's / early 90's my guess is that you will LOVE this movie. You will probably find it even more enjoyable if you grew up or now live in a small, rural town. You may even find that you went to school with a Napoleon Dynamite. I think I went to school with several of them...

This movie takes place in a very rural town somewhere in the dessert in the early 90's. The music and style of hair/dress reflect this perfectly from the Cyndy Lauper soundtrack to the MC Hammer pants. This movie centers around a few days in the life of a socially awkward (and rather backward) high school student named Napoleon, whose life is turned upside down when his grandmother in injured in a doon buggy accident and his Uncle Rico (involved in endless schemes to make a quick buck) comes to "babysit" him and his 32-year old brother (who is training to become a cage fighter). All of the characters in this film are easy to like and all of the typical high school players are represented - the popular Summer Wheatley, her sidekick Trisha, the obnoxious jock (who is absolutely HILARIOUS), the bully and of course Napoleon and his group of misfit friends. The plot moves at a very relaxed and laid back pace and contains to swearing, sex or violence, so it would be appropriate for any tween or adult audience. A good movie to chill out with- even more fun to watch w/ old high school friends...

Napoleon Dynamite is a slightly surreal, subtle but hilarious comedy, of an midwestern highschooler and his crazy antics.

His 32 year older brother Kip (who is training to become a cage fighter), best friend Pedro and scheming Uncle Rico are also involved in their own crazy frolics. Napoleon lives in a fantasy world where he is pretty good with a bow staff amongst other great skills. When Pedro decides to run for school president, Napoleon is determined to help his friend succeed, even if it means letting him use some of his ultimate skills.

This film definitely a favorite of mine and is probably the most quotable movie ever. I can see why some people don't get it but give it a chance, it's crazy funny. Jon Heder can make you laugh just by looking at him do nothing.

In my book, this flick is surely one of the new classics.

I had heard people talking about this movie and referencing scenes/repeating dialogue and then laughing out-loud. Napoleon Dynamite is hilarious. I was laughing throughout. The characters are so excentric. I've watched it many times now and can't believe how well-done all the details are. The kitchen appliances, Uncle Rico's van... I hear a lot of sayings now that have been coined from this movie. Vote for Pedro! Very entertaining movie. 5 stars!

When someone gushes about a movie being the funniest thing they've ever seen, it usually kills it for me. Fortunately, I had no expectations at all for this movie, and ended up thinking it was hilarious.

I don't know where to start...Napoleon's brother is SUCH a dweeb you'll want to smack him yourself---yet I'm laughing even now thinking about him. There are all these subtle continuity errors and era-inappropriate artifacts that are so obvious they had to be intentional, and even those still make me laugh.

But the real reason the movie is funny is because most of the characters are so incredibly pathetic they'll remind you, sometimes quite painfully, of real people. Some parts almost make you cringe that way.

If you're looking for something a little different, and if you can sit down to watch this without any particular expectations, you might accidentally get a huge kick out of it. I did. (Make sure you watch the part after the credits; a lot of people miss that.)
