The creature IS nice...but listen to the lyrics!

Always enjoyed the super-silly sci-fi spoof "The Creature Wasn't Nice" which I first saw on videotape under the title "Spaceship" but avoided it on DVD for the longest time, mostly because of it being released under still ANOTHER title ripping off a Leslie Nielsen movie & because the box looked so cheap & lousy.
Well, imagine my surprise when I finally got a copy of "Naked Space" & saw how nice it looked.
Sure, it was a bare bones disc released in the full screen format, but the picture was so clear that I could finally SEE the Grateful Dead logo on Rodzinski's hat that gets such a prominent credit in the end titles!
As for the movie itself, well, I love it of course, but does that mean you will?
First off, it's a musical, a semi-sequel of sorts to writer/producer/director/star Bruce Kimmel & Cindy "Laverne & Shirley" Williams' earlier co-production "The First Nudie Musical" (& no, she wasn't naked in that one just like she isn't naked in this one...), & if that doesn't turn you off, you might get a kick out of this wacky little film (& any movie that features a singing & dancing 7 ft. tall one-eyed rubber monster performing the show-stopper "I Want To Eat Your Face" is my idea of a fun flick!).
Sure, it's cheap (I mean, they edit in found footage from the Japanese sixties sci-fi superhero series "Spectreman" & get away with it!), but that's part of its charm.
It's got a great cast too, with not only Neilsen & Williams but also the always wonderful eccentric English actor Patrick "The Avengers" Macnee & the highly underrated American comedian Gerrit "Phantom of the Paradise" Graham.
Not for every taste (& some people say I don't have any!), but if you want to see a wonderfully weird, good old-fashioned small scale comedy that doesn't go out of its way to offend you, give "Naked Space" a try.
