I was in love with this game when I was younger and I think I appreciate it even more now. The first EA NHL with one-timers!

Retro sports gaming at its finest!

I remember a time back in the day. A golden age, when MacDonald's had pizza, bubblegum ice cream had real bubblegum in it, and consoles like the SNES and Sega Genesis reigned supreme. It was a golden age, when games were simple, but FUN. A perfect example of this is NHL '94. Though the graphics may be dated compared to today's standards, the gameplay is second to none! With so few buttons on the sega genesis, the controls had to be fairly simple. A to wristshot, B to pass and C to shoot. No fancy shots, no dekes, no spins, just skate, pass, and shoot. When without the puck, it's a simple matter of pressing C to check. The controls are simple, and easy to get the hang of, which makes for a refreshingly fun gaming experience. There's just something about watching a bunch of 16-bit hockey players all scramble for the puck that makes you happy. Great game, great action, great fun. A game from the golden ages of gaming.

  A true classic

When nhl 94 people were expecting some great, but no one knew how great it would turn out to be. It's the first hockey game to have one timers, real players and teams names, it also had cool card stats that showed how many goals and assists you got with any player in the game during one game. I would try beat my record, I beleive it was with Pierrre Turgeon I scored 11 goals in a 5 minutes game...awww good times.

I sold it years ago, but always regreted it so I rebought it on ebay!
10/10

NHL '94 you are the best!
Review created: 07/15/07

When NHL 94 came out back in 1993 it was one of, if not THE best sports games.
This was the first game to have all the NHL teams and NHL Players. Penalty shots, expansion teams, manual and most importantly; one-timers we all in NHL 94.

At the time the graphics, animations, local organ music, gameplay and speed were all top-notch. It was the most realistic console hockey game, yet it appealed to people who could care less about playing or watch real-life hockey. Who can not love flying down on the goalie with Roenick doing a backhand-to-forehand topshelf deke, or cutting across and having Ray Bourque unleash a slapshot, or Jagr feeding Mario a one-timer?

There's a reason it's been voted "All-Time Greatest Sports Video Game" and people are still playing it well over a decade late; the game is simply fun and intense.

  Why I love this game!

NHL 94 is one of my all time favorite games. 10 or 12 years ago it kept a bunch of us crazy college kids up till the wee hours of the morning, trying to be the best among our friends. It also kept us from attending some classes, and probably going out and possibly hooking up with hot college girls. No regrets though. At present I still play it with a few select friends who share the passion for the game. Good thing we somehow managed to get stable jobs, and loving girlfriends...

NHL '94: Real Sports Gamers Play Hockey

Pros:
great fast paced action, great features, one timers!

Cons:
no blood, no fights, no true season mode

A Name Change? Based on the bulk of my gaming reviews, I should change my user ID to Old School or something to that effect. However, Epinions doesn't like (read: allow) that, so here I am. Anyway, I spent last Friday night at a Philadelphia Phantoms game with my good friend Seth. We scored front row tickets just behind the blue line and within a battery's throw of the visiting bench. After 3 great hours of scrappy minor league hockey in the same Spectrum area where all those great Flyers teams once played, I was inspired to write about one of my other great hockey experiences. This game is...
